1*Boston Red Sox @ Baltimore Orioles – RED SOX TO WIN (-121)
Last night’s 16 inning game in Tampa Bay, in which the Red Sox won 1-0, dropped this line quite a bit. Although the travel and long game may affect the Red Sox a little bit, I really like where the line sits right now. Boston will send Tim Wakefield to the mound to face the Orioles. Wakefield is 5-3 on the year with a 4.74 ERA and 1.127 WHIP, with batters hitting .253 against him. In his career at Camden Yards Wakefield has gone 7-5 with a 3.80 ERA. On the mound for the Orioles is the struggling Brad Bergesen, who had been converted to a reliever, but will now be back with a start against the Red Sox. Bergesen is 1-6 on the year with a 5.65 ERA and 1.42 WHIP, with batters hitting .274 against him. The Red Sox are 21-5 in their last 26 games vs AL East teams, and 13-3 in their last 16 games as a road favorite. Also note that the Red Sox are 23-8 in their last 31 road games overall, and 40-16 in their last 56 games overall. The Red Sox are 25-10 in Wakefield’s last 35 starts as a favorite of -110 to -150. The Orioles had lost 9 straight, but managed to pick up wins both Saturday and Sunday to boost their confidence a little bit at least. The Orioles are just 8-23 in their last 31 games, and 2-5 in their last 7 home games. The Orioaltes are 18-39 in their last 57 games as an underdog, and and just 21-54 in their last 75 games vs a team with a winning % above .600. The Orioles are 1-10 in Bergesen’s last 11 starts, and 0-6 in his last 6 home starts. Also note that the Orioles are just 10-30 in his last 40 starts as an underdog. Boston has dominated the Orioles over recent years, going 38-14 in their last 52 meetings, and 72-34 in their last 106 meetings in Baltimore. Also note that the Orioles are just 2-5 in Bergesen’s last 7 starts vs the Red Sox. Boston dropped the first two meetings between these two teams this season, but has since went on to win the next 6 meetings. These two teams have a bit of hate for each other this season, and I fully expect the Red Sox to show up to play tonight, even with the long game last night and the travel. Boston is on a tear and the Orioles have been awful over their last 30 or so games. I’m taking Boston laying a bit of chalk on the road with confidence.
