San Francisco +104 over PHILADELPHIA Pinnacle
Vance Worley favored over Tim Lincecum is an insult to both the Giants and Lincecum and you can be damn sure that every SF player had a little chuckle to themselves when they checked the lines last night or this morning. Worley has made just 10 starts this season and was demoted after his July 4 start so he could make two starts in Triple-A while remaining on a regular rotation turn through the All-Star break. He’s had a rollercoaster season in which he has shuttled between Philadelphia and Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Worley has been on fire since June 18. Over that stretch covering six starts he’s allowed one earned run or less in all of them. His gaudy surface stats (2.02 ERA, 1.19 WHIP) are not supported by his middling skills, including a 3.97 xERA and 47 BPV. His 90% strand rate and 19% hit rate over the past month are both unsustainable and corrections in his numbers are forthcoming. Lincecum needs no introduction. Unlike Worley, he’s a proven commodity. Lincecum has been in top form recently with gems in six of his last seven and a 1.66 ERA in the last month. When facing top pitchers the Phillies offense is listless and anytime we can take back a tag on one of the top five pitchers in the game you can pencil us in and we make no exception here. Play: San Francisco +104 (Risking 2 units).
TORONTO –1½ +122 over Baltimore Pinnacle
The Jays own the Orioles, period. Last July 26-29, Baltimore came in here and lost all three games by scores of 9-5, 8-2 and 5-0. They’ve won just 13 of the past 54 games versus Toronto including five of six this year. The Jays should’ve taken two of three from the red-hot Rangers in Texas over this past weekend but a blown save in the ninth on Saturday prevented that from happening. The Jays remain hot at the plate with the potential to score a bunch every night. Six regulars in the line-up are on fire (Snider, Bautista, Escobar, Lind, Thames and Arencibia). Baltimore’s pitching has completely imploded. Their 6.53 July ERA has led to their 5-15 record. Jake Arrieta isn't helping — he has a 7.17 ERA with seven HR over his past four starts and the bullpen after him might be worse. Meanwhile, Brandon Morrow has won five of his last seven starts, and six were beauties. Morrow has 117 k’s in 102 frames and has shown a propensity for being a strong second half pitcher. The Orioles keep getting smoked by good hitting clubs and this one has that same feel. Play: Toronto –1½ +122 (Risking 2 units).
