    BIG AL MCMORDIE

3* MLB* BIG AL's TOTALS WINNER FOR WEDNESDAY BASEBALL!
At 6:00 pm, our selection is on the Philadelphia Phillies and St. Louis Cardinals 'under' the total. Here is where the depth of the Philadelphia rotation comes into play in a post-season series. Where other teams would have to either send out an over-matched back-of-the-rotation starter, or start their #1 guy on short rest, the Phillies have the luxury of handing the ball to a pitcher who would be just that - a #1 guy - on most other teams in the league. So #4 starter righthander Roy Oswalt will get the call this evening, and not only is that bad news for the Cards because Oswalt has not been scored on in two of his last three regular season starts, but also because one of those was against this Cardinals team back on September 17 when Oswalt threw seven innings of shutout ball, striking out seven without walking a single St. Louis batter. Despite the fact that the Cards came back in the latter half of game 2 from a 4-0 deficit, the damage was not caused by the normally suspect Philadelphia bullpen, but rather starter Cliff Lee who gave up 12 of the 13 hits to Cardinal hitters in that game. The Phily bullpen was almost perfect, as four different relievers combined for zero runs on just one hit in three innings of work. Oswalt carries a career 3.19 ERA against the Cards as well as a 5-1 post-season record into this crucial start tonight that could clinch another NLCS date for his team. Take the 'under.' As always, good luck...Al McMordie!
