    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Presque Isle Downs - Race #3
#6 Charlie Charlie His form can be a little inconsistent, but the two-back run was solid enough to think it would keep him in the frame with these if he can get back to it. In the mix.
#5 Oldzfourfortytwo Expected better from him in the same common race as the top choice last time out, but the price should be OK to give him another look against this group. Not impossible from close range.
#2 Fielder Short price is probably the one to beat, having won four of his last seven here, and he's got dangerous pace and showed a new dimension when scoring from a bit off the pace last out.
Race Summary Charlie Charlie and Oldzfourfortytwo both have some room to bounce back, and I'm hoping they'll both be decent prices off modest recent runs.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #4
#4 Susanoo Her only local try produced the best run of her short career, and she'll get some class relief today while trying the softest spot of her career. Something like that finishing run would make her tough in a race with no real closing kick. Solid call.
#7 Hope She Comes Positional pace has gotten short on excuses, but she has faced better than this in all of her lifetime starts and could have some upside while getting into this kind of spot.
#2 Gotham Gray Toss the route try last out and her overall form fits pretty well with these, and she is another one with a little bit of form from off the pace that could serve her well today.
Race Summary Susanoo might be a playable enough price while dropping off the dud, and I think her May effort here might be enough to land what feels like a soft spot.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #7
#2 Express Star I liked his graduation run here a couple months back, and he's worth another look if you give him a logical pass for the last one. Could be along late at a decent number.
#4 Fred George His local form has been pretty solid, and he flattered the top choice's May score when posting an easy win of his own in the follow-up start. Should be right there again.
#5 Leslie Chow Riser has taken a liking to the local footing with a couple easy tallies, and I wouldn't argue too hard with anyone who thought he was going to be the right horse at the right time today while in sharp form.
Race Summary Express Star seems capable enough on his better form, and he might offer another appealing price while trying this level off a forgivable race.

      Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

      Louisiana Downs - Race #1
#9 NIGHT ORB (7-2) Good recent form, best overall turf form, romped here two starts ago.
#4 FAST TRACK (3-1) Overcame bumpy start to win two back but not in latest as the favorite.
#10 MY GOLDEN BLING (6-1) Good zip on Remington Park lawn, lacked staying power.
Race Summary NIGHT ORB was ‘in a long drive’ leaving the turn but couldn’t reach the winner in a fast-pace grass sprint. He is the most proven turf runner in the field and should go well again. Bet to win and place but don’t expect morning-line price.
      Louisiana Downs - Race #2
#3 ST PIERRE (9-2) Seeks duplicate of runner-up finish two back going a route of ground.
#5 A TRUE TARGET (2-1) Stablemate of top one advanced 4-wide at 7F but ran third as the fave.
#4 BELLAMY BROTHER (8-5) Hit board in 3 of last 5 starts, drops for second start as a gelding.
Race Summary ST PIERRE was ‘caught near the wire’ in his seasonal debut at one mile, then had to play catch-up after a troubled start while ambitiously placed in a $5,000 claiming race. He lures Borel to ride and appears the value play among the favorites. Bet to win and place and play a 3-4 and 3-5 exactas.
      Louisiana Downs - Race #6
#1 HALF MAGIC (7-2) Steps up after stepping away to and 8-1/2-length victory at the same distance.
#3 WISHERT (6-1) Broberg claim switches back to turf, seeks third consecutive win.
#5 BANKROLL (2-1) Earned top speed figure of career in wire-to-wire romp on main track.
Race Summary HALF MAGIC got the jump on a trio of deep closers with a 4-wide move at the quarter pole and romped to his first win in more than a year. He can handle the class hike as today’s Best Bet with a similar move. Play a 1-ALL exacta.

Race 2 - Maiden Special Weight - 8.5f on the Turf. Purse: $43520 Class Rating: 82

IND-R7 - FOR MAIDENS, FILLIES THREE YEARS OLD. WEIGHT, 121 LBS. IF THIS RACE IS TAKEN OFF THE TURF, IT WILL BE RUN AT 1 MILE AND 1/16 ON THE MAIN TRACK.
            RECOMMENDED CHOICES
            # 8 STREETWHEREYOULIVE 6/1
            # 10 MULIMA 4/1
            # 4 DE LUNA 20/1
I think STREETWHEREYOULIVE is a very good choice. Has performed soundly lately in route races, posting a nifty 77 avg speed figure. With one of the top jock in terms of dividends at the window, don't count this filly out. Could beat this group of horses in this race given the 77 speed rating garnered in her last outing. MULIMA - Look for a competitive pace improvement from this horse who enters with second time Lasix today. Reason to like this filly as she has in the saddle one of the best jocks using winning percentages over the last month. DE LUNA - Make a note that this entrant runs with second time Lasix today.

              # 3 JAK N BURNY 7/5
              # 5 TRA LAD 6/1
              # 2 N Y ANTHEM 7/2
JAK N BURNY has a very strong shot to take this race. He has been running soundly and the Equibase speed figs are among the most favorable in this field. Has been running admirably lately and should be up near the lead early on. Ought to be given a chance - I like the figures from the last contest. TRA LAD - Might wake up with Lasix change (on Lasix) today. With a solid 91 Equibase Speed Figure last time out, will definitely be a factor in this outing. N Y ANTHEM - Englehart has one of the most respectable winning percentages in this field with entries running at this distance and surface. Garnered a decent speed rating last time out.

                Thistledown - Race #6 - Post: 3:20pm - Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $16,600 Class Rating: 88

                Rating:

                #1 BOURBON WISDOM (ML=5/1)
                #5 TOE TAPPIN LUKE (ML=7/2)

BOURBON WISDOM - You'll be generating money left and right by turning your racing money onto this jockey/trainer combination. Taking a trip to a lower class level; has the ability to make his presence felt. TOE TAPPIN LUKE - Trainer Sweeting moves this one down the class ladder to face a lower rated field. Look for a sharp effort at this level.

                Vulnerable Contenders: #3 STRIKE APPEAL (ML=2/1), #2 R CARDINAL PRINCE (ML=5/2), #4 CUGINE (ML=9/2),

STRIKE APPEAL - Very long layoff, then came back and finished fourth. Hard to expect much better today. 2/1 odds isn't enough for this horse when looking at the most recent outings. This gelding ran his greatest speed figure in some time on the dirt in a route race. There may be a performance bounce today. R CARDINAL PRINCE - This steed hasn't won at this track. CUGINE - This gelding finished out of the money on May 20th and wasn't close to victory last time around the track either.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Go with #1 BOURBON WISDOM on top if we're getting at least 3/1 odds

                  Parx Racing - Race #10 - Post: 4:47pm - Maiden Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $19,000 Class Rating: 44

                  Rating:

                  #6 SO STEADY (ML=5/1)

SO STEADY - The Aug 23rd race at Parx Racing was at a class level of (54). Dropping down the class ladder drastically, so she should be in a good place. Dropping 7 pounds from last race. Could be a deciding factor today.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #9 INDY'S GOLDEN GIRL (ML=3/1), #10 DIXIE MUSIC (ML=4/1), #2 THE LAST JET (ML=9/2),

INDY'S GOLDEN GIRL - Didn't come through as the public's top choice back to back. Probably won't gain a win today either. DIXIE MUSIC - Would have to get quite a bit more than the morning line odds of 4/1 to wager on this horse. THE LAST JET - That was just not a very good display in the last event.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Bet on #6 SO STEADY to win if you can get at least 1/1 odds
