    #2
    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

    Del Mar - Race #5
#7 Sabertooth He's coming into this with a reliable series of works, but I'd want a fair price for a team that hasn't done great work with this kind locally in recent years. Some appeal while likely overlooked thanks to the next two...
#4 Legitimate/#5 Brummell Barn does excellent work with these types, so check these two out on the tote and track. Guessing they're both going to take cash, and I like the top choice enough to stand against them both.
#9 Cardinal Spirit I would have been a little bit more interested if this were a one-turn turf race, but I bet he has some upside on the surface switch and might have gotten a little something out of the modest debut run.
Race Summary Sabertooth debuts in a spot with a couple likely capable firsters from the McCarthy barn, but the price might be OK with an appealing cadence of drills ahead of this.
    Del Mar - Race #10
#9 Jackstown This is a big step up while facing a decent crew, but he has impressed through two starts and could still have some room to come forward for a barn that can get these types really good really quickly.
#8 The Chosen Vron I wouldn't argue too hard with anyone who wanted to take a short price on a single and let the plays ride with just him. He's classy and won this race last year.
#6 Closethegame Sugar This guy has been good for us in this space in the past, but he's getting a tougher test today while meeting some in-form class and an interesting upstart. One of the ones, but I think he'll find at least one of them too good today.
Race Summary Jackstown is either going to be on cruise control the entire way while prompting throughout, or he's going to track and fade -- I'll take a shot at a midrange price that it'll be the former. He might be a good one.
    Del Mar - Race #11
#4 Ashley She's starting to settle in as a reliable underneath player, but I think she's going to get overlooked today with another tactical trip waiting for her. The better stuff on her page is in line with what the logical players have shown.
#9 She'z the Law She has been knocking at the door since getting on the turf, and her baseline effort obviously keeps her in the frame again today. Similar overall profile to the one drawn just outside her.
#12 Spanish Cara I could probably be convinced to take a more serious look at her if she made a good appearance ahead of this, as she knocked on the door overseas and stretches out with what feels like enough pedigree to get the trip.
Race Summary Ashley could get a little lost on the board with four or five others who almost have to take some cash. Hoping one of her reliable tries will manage to be enough with these. Take a look at #6 Step It Out and #7 Rehearsal ahead of this one, too.

      #3
      Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

      Laurel Park - Race #1
#7 LADDIE DANCE (9-2) Took money of the class drop but wide trip took its toll at 5-1/2F.
#1 HOLONUI (9-5) Adapted well to turf and off-the-pace tactics, just missed in photo finish.
#10 ATHLETIC STAR (10-1) Worked in :36-2/5 from gate in final prep for first start of career.
Race Summary LADDIE DANCE raced 5-wide most of the way from post 10, leveled off in the stretch but finished willingly. He draws a better post and should get a good pace set up, compliments of the inside favorites. Bet to win and place and play a 1-7-10 exacta box.
      Laurel Park - Race #4
#6 MAP TO THE MOON (8-1) Hooked tigress in latest, scratched at Delaware for this spot.
#4 BLESSED CANDY (8-5) Dueled and gave way in heavily-bet debut, has to carry speed farther.
#5 ANOTHER HOPE (7-5) Adds blinkers, switches to go-to jockey, barn on 5-9 run with 2yos.
Race Summary MAP TO THE MOON took money on the drop to this level, but fell victim to a bumpy start and very promising runaway winner. She was scratched in a race at Delaware won by the 1-to-5 favorite, but believe she can surprise for a hot barn with 2-year-old maiden claimers. Bet to win and place and play 6-4 and 6-5 exactas.
      Laurel Park - Race #5
#7 GO TAKE CHARGE (10-1) Doesn’t shy from photo-finish camera, price attached in repeat try.
#4 SIGMUND (12-1) Blocked behind fast pace, bid to brief lead at stretch call, gave way in lane.
#1 LA CREMA (5-1) Fave in 3 of last 4 starts, appears rounding to another good race, rail a plus.
Race Summary GO TAKE CHARGE rallied for a win, two seconds and a third in his last four grass routes, not counting a marathon over hurdles. He overcame post 10 in an amateur riders’ race and there’s no reason he can’t win again at an inflated price. Bet to win and place.

            Race 1 - Maiden - 300y on the Dirt. Purse: $4500 Class Rating: 58

QUARTER HORSE 300Y, FOR IDAHO BRED MAIDENS, TWO YEARS OLD. WEIGHT, 124 LBS.
            RECOMMENDED CHOICES
            # 3 LM CONCORDS SECRET 3/5
            # 4 JJ EASTER BUG 7/2
            # 1 RAISE Z CASH 8/1
I think LM CONCORDS SECRET is a very good choice. Looks respectable versus this group of horses in this race and will probably be one of the early speedsters. Is hard not to consider given the company run in lately. Must be considered a key contender on earnings per start at the distance/surface alone. JJ EASTER BUG - Is a key contender - given the 54 speed rating from her most recent race. Looks strong to be up near the front end at the first call. RAISE Z CASH - If you gander closely, this horse has some longshot potential. His chances to score are much better this time around facing this less demanding group.

              Race 9 - Trial - 6.0f on the Dirt. Purse: $6000 Class Rating: 83

FOR THREE YEAR OLDS. WEIGHT . 126 LBS.
              RECOMMENDED CHOICES
              # 7 SUNRISE MISCHIEF 3/1
              # 5 STORMCATSONG 7/2
              # 1 ARIZONA REINA 7/2
SUNRISE MISCHIEF has a competitive shot to take this race. Has quite good Equibase Speed Figures and has to be considered for a bet here. I like Serrano on this gelding to give him a solid chance to hit the wire first. Posted a formidable Equibase Speed Figure in the most recent race. Can run another good one in this contest. STORMCATSONG - His 62 average has this colt with among the strongest Equibase Speed Figures for this event. Horses who have been prepared to race at this distance and surface by Zimmerman have shown strong results recently. ARIZONA REINA - This racer has a terrific win percent in dirt sprints. When a handler brings any racer back this soon it is a positive sign.

                PURCHASE

                Delaware Park - Race #6 - Post: 3:00pm - Claiming - 7.5 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $19,500 Class Rating: 82

                Rating:

                #5 HENDRICKSON (ML=4/1)
                #6 SAN ANDRES (ML=12/1)
                #2 ALOHA MAN (ML=8/1)

HENDRICKSON - In this race here, this horse has earned the highest speed rating at the distance, so I have to give him the edge. With 'blinkers-on' this gelding should be very competitive. Dropping 5 pounds from last race. Could be a deciding factor today. SAN ANDRES - Lets try to beat the morning-line choices with this gelding. Just missed last out, but ran a pretty decent race. True, this horse is coming off a layoff, but this gelding runs well fresh. This horse has increased his speed ratings from a fig of 68 to 70 to 73 in a row. ALOHA MAN - Don't often see a positive ROI like +204. This rider/trainer twosome has done well together over the last twelve months. Have to give this colt a chance. Ran a nice outing last race out within the last 30 days. This colt has the top turf number in his last race. It doesn't take a college grad like The Brain to figure this here horse has a good chance.

Vulnerable Contenders: #10 CODE OMAHA (ML=3/1), #11 CELESTIAL JOY (GB) (ML=8/1), #9 APRIL APRIL (ML=8/1),

CODE OMAHA - Just cannot play any entrant right back after he doesn't land in the top three after any long vacation. CELESTIAL JOY (GB) - Had to give me lots more in the last race. Never made much of an impact. The speed figure last time around the track doesn't fit very well in this clash when I look at the class rating of today's event. Mark this mount as a possibly overvalued contestant. APRIL APRIL - Difficult to bet on any steed in a sprint affair if she hasn't finished in the money in a sprint in the last 60 days. Mediocre speed figure last time out at Delaware Park at 1 mile. Don't feel this racer will improve too much in today's event.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Hal - ALOHA MAN - This colt has the best last speed figure at Delaware Park. Must be considered in your investing.

                  Woodbine - Race #6 - Post: 3:40pm - Maiden Special - 7.0 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $111,300 Class Rating: 84

                  Rating:

                  #11 CATCH THE DRIFT (ML=5/1)
                  #7 ENDURING (ML=8/1)
                  #4 GO WITH GUSTO (ML=3/1)
                  #3 TWISTED ROMANCE (ML=12/1)

CATCH THE DRIFT - You have to like this magnificent animal changing from dirt to turf for the first time. She finished on the board on a sluggish dirt track on May 5th. A sign she may take to turf. This filly is in good form. Ran second on July 7th. ENDURING - Casse has an 'uncoupled' entry here. Best to beware of the longer priced half. I have to believe that today's shorter trip should help this filly. This thoroughbred has increased her Equibase speed figures in each of the last 2 races. That kind of progress is important to note. GO WITH GUSTO - Faced tougher last time out at Del Mar. Based on Equibase class ratings, this is a weaker bunch, so I will put this horse on my list of strong contenders. This filly has a ton of ability on the grass. Could be long gone by the time they turn for home and hit the stretch. Gets help from Casse with the addition of Lasix. TWISTED ROMANCE - Jock jumped on this filly's back for the first ride on Jun 13th. Should 'know' the animal even better this time.

Vulnerable Contenders: #6 HIGH HANDED (IRE) (ML=4/1), #1 FRENCH LAUNDRY (GB) (ML=6/1),

HIGH HANDED (IRE) - Hasn't hit the board in any sprint races of late. Unlikely to see her doing it this time around either. FRENCH LAUNDRY (GB) - I'm predicting a less than stellar go of it out of her this time around.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - GO WITH GUSTO - I always check out the horse that is at the top in earnings per start. If she meets my specifications I make a bet.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Put your money on #11 CATCH THE DRIFT on the nose if you can get odds of 5/1 or more
