Texas Rangers vs. St. Louis Cardinals
Game 1 of the World Series is all set to go with C.J. Wilson toeing the bump for the American League rep Texas Rangers against Chris Carpenter and the St. Louis Cardinals from the National League; first pitch from Busch Stadium is scheduled for 8:05 ET on FOX.
The Rangers pulled off the wire-to-wire job to its fullest in disposing of the Detroit Tigers by a 15-5 final count in Game 6 of the ALCS. Texas seemingly held a lead in the AL West throughout the entirety of the regular season, and parlayed that dominance into becoming the first team since the 1992 Atlanta Braves to return to the World Series after losing it the year before. Manager Ron Washington’s squad took each of its two road games in the ALDS vs. Tampa Bay before dropping two of three to the Tigers at Comerica Park in the ALCS. In all, Texas stands 47-39 and up $615 for its betting backers as a visitor.
The Cardinals were the last team to qualify for the postseason in the National League, but now, Albert Pujols and his mates are the last team standing after taking care of business against the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLDS and ousting the NL Central champion Milwaukee Brewers in the NLCS. Manager Tony LaRussa’s squad has come up with big hits when needed, and the bullpen has stepped up to the challenge when it’s mattered most throughout the postseason. Now, the Redbirds are in a position to hoist yet another championship banner atop Busch Stadium since doing so back in 2006. St Louis is 48-38 (-$654) as a host in 2011.
These teams haven’t squared off against one another since 2004. Texas went 9-9 (-$350) in Interleague play, while St. Louis managed a 9-7 ($120) record this season. The Rangers fell in the World Series last year in five games, and enter this spot just 12-11 as a road underdog in the +100 to +125 range. The Cardinals stand 20-22 (-$600) against left-handed starters to date, but are 8-2 their L/10 at home against +.500 opposition. The ‘under’ is 4-1 the L/5 times the Rangers were installed underdogs, while the ‘under’ has played out in six of the Cardinals L/8 World Series match-ups. PICK: TEXAS/ST. LOUIS OVER
