The Purdue Boilermakers are the last team in the Big Ten without a conference victory. They will try to get win #1 in conference this Saturday when they welcome in the Northwestern Wildcats. After winning their opening game of the season, Purdue has proceeded lose 6 straight games. The only game that ended up being close was a 50-49 overtime loss to Illinois. A contributor to the losing streak has been the loss of starting quarterback Hudson Card to injury. Card is ready to go for this one. Northwestern lost their previous game against Iowa 40-14. Sophomore quarterback Jack Lausch against the elite Hawkeye defense. Lausch only managed to throw for 62 yards and 2 interceptions in the defeat. Northwestern has now lost 2 straight conference games by 20 or more points.

Both Northwestern and Purdue are likely going to be watching bowl games from the sideline this holiday season. Neither team has much to play for standings or bowl games. You could argue more for the ‘Cats, but after their collapse since beating Maryland they would need to finish the season winning 3 of their last 4 games. Purdue’s main reason to suit up for this home game is the job security of head coach Ryan Walters. A winless season in the Big Ten may confirm the rumors of Walters being let go. This may be Purdue’s last chance to pick up a victory in conference with Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan State and Indiana coming up next. With Card back under center, I like for the Boilermakers to come out inspired and get a win for their coach.
