    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

    Mahoning Valley - Race #6
#6 Centsofwander He has some versatility in his route runs to finish from far back or sit a bit closer if needed, and that might work in his favor today while settled in behind a handful of potential forward players.
#1 Oiler He has some tables to turn out of the last one, but he might find the right kind of pocket trip while letting Smash control the tempo early. In the mix throughout, and I like that his rider has a couple options depending on how the pace unfolds into the first turn.
#8 Fat Daddy He's in the frame with these on overall form, but I'm mildly worried about his local record. Obvious room to bounce back today after the Mountaineer allowance dud.
Race Summary Centsofwander won from way back last out and owns a recent win from a pressing spot -- a nice set of options for his rider to have out of the gate. Thinking he'll handle these right back from a perfect spot to watch it unfold.
    Mahoning Valley - Race #7
#5 Lucky Victor Route pace cuts back for this one and might get a dreamy setup while chasing the two speed players drawn just inside of him. Not sure you could draw it up better. Solid lean.
#4 Bold Buckeye He and the guy one stall inside are the ones to beat on talent, but I worry they may be knocking heads early while also taking a little heat from borderline stakes type #6 Playing For Keeps. Threat, but I'm not totally convinced on race flow.
#2 Dreamingabouttime Finisher benefits if he can settle at the tail and make one run -- obviously a contested pace would be a big plus for him in this one. Price for an underneath piece?
Race Summary Lucky Victor could get a really good run of things in here while spying some quicker players early, and the price should be OK compared to the pair drawn inside him.
    Mahoning Valley - Race #8
#8 Smartasset She has had her share of chances already, but I wonder if she can be the controlling pace here in a way that would leave her with something left in the tank late. Midrange price chance.
#1 Parlay Charlie She's a little shy on excuses right now, but I liked her local debut a little bit when staying for second even if I have some hesitations about showing pace in a small group like that.
#2 Exponentially She'll likely be a short number for a top barn, and it wouldn't be a shock to see her show a little pace in a spot without a ton of early burn.
Race Summary Smartasset might be the right one here, but keep an eye on the tote and get a look at Exponentially ahead of this.

      Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

      Turf Paradise - Race #2
#1 SILVERBULLIT BADGER (7-2) Kept quality company out of town, expect better in return to TuP.
#3 BRANDYN (5-2) Hit board in three consecutive allowance sprints, gets pace to run at.
#4 GONZAGA BAY (9-2) Steps up after winning three in a row at Prairie Meadows, Corbett sticks.
Race Summary SILVERBULLIT BADGER returns a much-improved horse than his prior two go-rounds at Turf Paradise. He won a long sprint at Albuquerque off a 10-week layoff, ran second at 7F to Sexy Dexy (15-60, $298k), who was embarking on a three-race winning streak, then ‘closed ground’ but finished fourth behind Ima Bling Cat (14-37, $280k), who is 4-4 this year. Bet to win and place.
      Turf Paradise - Race #4
#8 AWESOME ROAD (6-1) Back with own kind after year-long stakes campaign, like the recent works.
#2 BUGLER (4-1) Has run some monster races at distance which he’s 16/4-2-3 with $77k in earnings.
#7 ITS KRAKEN TIME (5-1) Ran 1-2-3 from up close going a route of ground at Emerald Downs.
Race Summary AWESOME ROAD gets a needed break from stakes company off a freshening and in his third start as a gelding. He hasn’t sprinted since a debut victory 14 months ago, but his :35-3/5 workout over the track is a good sign as he cuts back in distance. Bet to win and place and play 8-2 and 8-7 exactas.
      Turf Paradise - Race #5
#4 KARAOKE HERO (7-2) Ran to fast works at Albuquerque, the one to beat as today’s Best Bet.
#2 WAR IS HELL (5-1) California invader chased the two faves, finished ‘with some interest.’
#1 F B I BOB (5-2) Battled severe bout with ‘seconditis’ in six-horse fields at Prairie Meadows.
Race Summary KARAOKE HERO was no match for a 4-to-5 first-time starter in his debut, but he validated that strong effort with a wide rally for third behind the same rival in a 6F stakes race. Wouldn’t expect 7-2 morning-line price but anything close is worth a win and place bet. Also play a 4-2-ALL trifecta.

Race 5 - Maiden Optional Claiming - 5.0f on the Dirt. Purse: $21000 Class Rating: 63

FOR MAIDENS, TWO YEARS OLD. WEIGHT, 121 LBS. OPTIONAL CLAIMING PRICE $30,000.
            RECOMMENDED CHOICES
            # 1 F B I BOB 5/2
            # 4 KARAOKE HERO 7/2
            # 9 SHADOW ON THE SUN 9/2
F B I BOB looks decent to best this field. Has solid early speed and ought to fare solidly against this group. Has to be given a chance based on the competitive Equibase Speed Fig put up in the last outing. Overall the Speed Figures of this pony look quite good in this race. KARAOKE HERO - Is worth considering and may be a bet - strong Speed Figures (58 average) at today's distance and surface as of late. Last time out, this gelding was up against a much tougher crew. SHADOW ON THE SUN - He has been running admirably lately while recording very solid speed figures.

              Race 3 - Allowance - 8.0f on the Turf. Purse: $46240 Class Rating: 94

IND - R5 - FOR THREE YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD WHICH HAVE NEVER WON TWO RACES. THREE YEAR OLDS, 120 LBS.; OLDER, 124 LBS. NON-WINNERS OF A RACE AT A MILE OR OVER SINCE OCTOBER 6 ALLOWED 2 LBS. IF THIS RACE IS TAKEN OFF THE TURF, IT WILL BE RUN AT 1 MILE AND 70 YARDS ON THE MAIN TRACK.
              RECOMMENDED CHOICES
              # 1 MERCANTE 12/1
              # 3 SOVEREIGNS JOY 5/2
              # 10 PURE POETRY 7/2
MERCANTE could be the wager in here especially at a long price. He has been racing quite well lately while recording strong speed figures. Earning some nice paychecks in turf route races. Put up a formidable speed figure in the latest race. Can run another good one in this contest. SOVEREIGNS JOY - Tough to pass on this colt with Ramos in the saddle. He has very strong class ratings, averaging 95, and has to be given a shot in this event. PURE POETRY - Trainer has strong win rate (15 percent) at this distance and surface. Earned a solid Equibase speed fig in the latest race. Can run another good one in this affair.

                Remington Park - Race #4 - Post: 7:57pm - Claiming - 7.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $8,500 Class Rating: 78

                Rating:

                #7 AWESOME OUTLAW (ML=8/1)
                #3 CROOKED FELLOW (ML=5/2)

AWESOME OUTLAW - Last time this gelding ran today's distance he got a speed fig that would probably win today's contest. This gelding should be at the peak of fitness, this far into his form cycle. Pruitt drops him down to this level. You don't need too much more from the horse's history to think this animal has a darn good chance at this level. CROOKED FELLOW - Faced tougher in the last race at Remington Park. Based on class ratings, this is a weaker group, so I will put this horse on my list of top contenders. Alvarez comes to ride again after getting to know the gelding in the last event. This gelding is in first-rate condition right now. Finished third last out and comes back soon.

                Vulnerable Contenders: #4 FATHER RED (ML=3/1), #6 FOREVER COOL (ML=9/2), #1 SEND OFF (ML=5/1),

FATHER RED - Had to show me a whole lot more in the last race. Never made much of an impact. If he hasn't found the winning spirit by now, it will be tough for him to get it today. FOREVER COOL - Where is the speed? None to be found in here to set things up for this animal. SEND OFF - This mount hasn't had nary a single workout after running so well on October 17th.

GUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - AWESOME OUTLAW - This equine has only early speed. Keep that in the forefront of your mind when you place your bet.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Putting our cash on #7 AWESOME OUTLAW to win. Have to have odds of at least 5/2 or better though

Mahoning Valley Race Course - Race #4 - Post: 2:08pm - Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $19,500 Class Rating: 65

                  Rating:

                  #3 MIZZEN THE POINT (ML=8/1)
                  #1 DOMINIQUE'S NIGHT (ML=3/1)

MIZZEN THE POINT - Ranks highest in earnings per start (EPS). A solid performance in this field will add to that bankroll. DOMINIQUE'S NIGHT - This racer ran outside the top 3 at Thistledown last time around the track on a muddy track. She should improve right here under better track conditions.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #2 SALTMAKESHERSWEET (ML=5/2), #4 SPICE ICE (ML=4/1), #6 ANGEL'S DESTINY (ML=6/1),

SALTMAKESHERSWEET - You should normally bet against chalks that haven't raced or show no activity in the morning over the last three weeks. SPICE ICE - Would have to perk up off that fourth place finish last time out to make an impact here. I cannot play this frequent non-winner. Gets the assignment finished once in a while. This sustainer looks to have almost no chance without a ding-dong battle on the top end. ANGEL'S DESTINY - The fifth place result in the last event was not that great.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: #3 MIZZEN THE POINT to win at post-time odds of 3/1 or better
