Jeff Siegel's What You Need to Know - Del Mar - 11/15/24

    November 15, 2024

Jeff Siegel’s “What You Need to Know”
    Del Mar

    __________________________________________________ ____________________________
    RACE 7: Post: 3:30 PT Grade: B+
    Top Selection/Prime Play: 6-Sandy Bottom
    Back-ups
    : none.

Forecast: The classy comebacker Tamara is clearly the one to beat as the 4/5 morning line favorite in this allowance dash for fillies and mares, but she might be vulnerable from her rail post, so let’s try to beat her with another talented layoff runner at a better price from a better draw. Sandy Bottom, herself a graded stakes winner and undefeated in two starts, returns for trainer Michael McCarthy with a series of San Luis Rey Downs workouts that should have her fit and ready, and this first time Lasix user may be able to control the race from her cozy outside draw. She’s probably a bit quicker than her chief rival and may be able to gain control early and never look back. She’s worth a good gamble in the win pool and in the various rolling exotics at or near her published priced of 5/2.

    __________________________________________________ ____________________________
    RACE 8: Post: 4:00 PT Grade: B+
    Top Selection/Prime Play: 2-Gracelund Gray
    Backups
    : 5-Yerwanthere (Ire)

Forecast: Freshened since April, exiting a series of fast sprints, and returning at a distance we know she can handle, Gracelund Gray appears primed to wire this field if gate-to-wire tactics are employed. The P. Eurton-trained mare has won over this course in the past, is fast on numbers, and seems certain to enjoy the class relief, so with a healthy, steady series of workouts to have her fit and ready the daughter of Goldencents offers enticing value on the tote at anything near her morning line of 7-2.

Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

      November 15, 2024 | By Al Cimaglia

      XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Yonkers Raceway has a 10-race card. The headliner rolls in Race 8, the MGM Grand Prix Trotting Series Final with a $250,000 purse. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 7, and the sequence will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

      Race 7 (9:00 PM ET)

4-Easy To Please (6-1)-This is a test but the team Stratton mare won't blush at the competition and comes off an efficient win. The fractions should be lively and gets a post edge on some tough foes. This is a stalker who with a smooth steer should be there at the wire at a nice price.
7-Coachellabound N (7/2)-Winner of 3 straight versus this company was game to the wire in last. Could go gate to wire again. Needs to be respected, has the gate speed to get on the point and not look back.

Race 8 (9:20 PM EST) MGM Grand Prix Trotting Series Final

3-Delayed Hanover (8-1)-Price shot got through late along the pylons to DH for a picture last week. Loses Jason Bartlett but picks up Dexter Dun. Should still offer good value, and the last line was better than it looked. Could get a similar trip and be the best down the lane.
4-Ari Ferrari J (5/2)-Left in its Elim, got the top and the extra 1/16th didn't matter last week. Should be on the engine or no worse than in the 2-hole with this post draw. This is a main player, hasn't missed the board in 8 starts and has taken 4 pictures on the Hilltop.

      Race 9 (9:40 PM EST)

1-Twist Little Girl N (7/2)-Does its best work racing on the lead or close to it. Should get that kind of trip and be in the mix at the wire.
4-Ultimate Speed (9/2)-This mare is having a very nice year and drops to face similar as its last win on 10-18. Looking for an aggressive steer at a square price. ANap should blast out and play catch me if you can.
5-McMarkel Sparkle (8-1)-Ships back from Philly and comes back in sequence. Will swing for a price in a race without a true standout. Bartlett could also look to be aggressive from the word go.

      Race 10 (10:00 PM EST)

4-Kasha V (7/2)-Ships back from M1 and should relish the company. Steve Smith steers for his 2nd straight race. This looks like an opportunity to get the top, and this pilot knows how to rate a winning trip.
5-Vali Hanover (3-1)-This veteran may have met a beatable field. Drops and should be racing near the top of the stack. Looks like a player and hopefully won't be over bet.

      $1.00 Late Pick 4

      4,7/3,4/1,4,5/4,5
      Total Bet=$24

Gulfstream Park Pick 4 for Friday, Nov. 15

        November 15, 2024 | By Frank Carulli

        GULFSTREAM PICK 4
        Friday, November 15, 2024

More than $50,000 was bet on Gulfstream Park’s Late Pick 4 last Friday. It’s worth a 50-cent base wager to try and cash in on this week’s sequence. Here’s a closer look with a suggested $48 ticket:

GP 6th race (3:03 p.m. EST) -- No shortage of expensive sales buys and eye-catching workouts for top barns in this 10-horse MSW sprint for 2-year-old fillies. ROJO RITA blazed from the gate at Palm Meadows in :46 flat October 18, the best of a promising series of works. She and stablemate Bear Claw Necklace, who finished third in her debut, ran more than a full second faster than 35 others who worked 4F that day. HENRY GONDORFF debuts for an 18-percent barn with 2-year-olds and her dam was a second-out MSW winner at age 2 and multiple stakes-placed sprinter as a 3-year-old. REPUTATION, a 450,000 purchase, prepped fast at Keeneland, but the daughter of Grade 1-winning 2-year-old Bolt D’Oro shows up here for a solid first-out barn. Don’t sleep on her stablemate, LUNA LOUSKA, who worked faster than 100 others twice recently and is out of a dam who had two wins and a stakes-placed showing from four starts in her first year of racing. PRECISENESS was a troubled favorite in her debut in May, but she was well-beaten in a race that produced 10/1-0-1 follow-up efforts.

GP 7th race (3:35 p.m. EST) -- Consider the Pick 4 a Pick 3 if R DISASTER lives up to probable odds-on favoritism. But it’s hard to go beyond a runner who returns home to face Florida breds after defeating open $80,000 claimers at Churchill Downs. She set faster fractions and finished 1/5 of a second slower than a same-day starter allowance for the boys in which the top four finishers were a combined 35-130 with more than $1 million in total earnings.

GP 8th race (4:06 p.m. EST) -- CARDINALE starts fresh and returns to the scene of his debut victory and near-miss in a follow-up allowance route. He fought back after he lost the lead mid-turn but missed a repeat win by a neck. He faded in the Grade 2 Risen Star at Fair Grounds, but he gets a pass on that one as the top five finishers are all graded stakes winners, including Breeders’ Cup Classic champion Sierra Leone. MUGATU bore in at the start in a crowded Maryland Million Classic field at Laurel Park, trailed into the far turn, but finished well for third at 1-1/8 miles. He is a viable option if CARDINALE doesn’t win. HAVILDAR should benefit from a useful comeback in a slow-paced allowance in which he raced extremely wide throughout and finished third. He shows a 1:00-1/5 workout since then.

GP 9th race (4:38 p.m. EST) -- With nine entrants going post-ward with a combined 9-for-131 record, go deep in the final leg of the sequence. CARDON SETTLEMENT broke his maiden at today’s distance, then finished in the money in a pair of 7F sprints that featured next-out, repeat winners. FIRST TEAM finished 2 lengths behind ‘Cardon’ but he is a longshot consideration if he stays in contact and avoids his usual wide trip on the cutback in distance. AMAZING WOO rallied 4-wide and won in-hand but six of his rivals finished out of the money in their next start. JIVE starts for a new barn as a gelding, but he is a major player if he avoids another slow start. SMOKIN BOW worked forwardly off a six-month layoff but didn’t fire. Use him on the ticket at 15-1. CAJUN FOOL dueled through solid fractions from the same post two starts back before a trio of closers passed by. SIXTEEN CIGARETTES rallied 6-wide to finish third in the same spot two back on conventional dirt and gets in light-weighted. CACIQUE ABARRIO runs for the cheapest tag of his career and should be forwardly placed a long way.

        Suggested 50-Cent Ticket

        GP 6th Race: 1, 2, 3, 4
        GP 7th Race: 2
        GP 8th Race: 1, 6, 8
        GP 9th Race: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9

        Cost: $48

          Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

          Del Mar - Race #6
#7 Hornsby Check him out on the track and tote ahead of this, but I think he might be one the live fresh faces in here. Outside of the next guy, I'm not sure there is a ton of depth lined up today.
#9 Cullen J Wouldn't argue too hard with anyone deciding to take a solid stand here and just accept a short price on the chalk who looks like the clear one to beat with this group. Mildly concerned about how he's given away ground late in both starts, though.
#2 Run Abboudy Run Forward player has chased and faded a bit in both of the first two tries, but the move to the turf gives some hope for improvement, and he could be dangerous pace from close to the fence if he likes the new footing.
Race Summary Would also want to get a look at #1 Brahms Mendelssohn ahead of this one. Hornsy looks interesting enough first time out at what I'm hoping will be a playable enough price owing to the presence of Cullen J.
          Del Mar - Race #7
#6 Sandy Bottom Not sure she's quite in the chalk's league, but she has been super sharp through two starts and could be dangerous off the bench if she breaks running.
#1 Tamara She's supposed to win this on class and talent, but she's back off the long break and drew the rail in a spot where the top choice can attack the whole way. The one to beat at a short price.
#5 Anywho There are a couple of one-paced efforts on her page that might allow her to sit behind the top two and grind the whole way to land a share, but it's really hard for me to see someone outside the top pair landing this.
Race Summary Sandy Bottom and Tamara both have some upside while coming back in their first respective starts as 3-year-olds late in the season, but the former should offer a better price and might have the style to be a thorn in the side the whole way here.
          Del Mar - Race #8
#9 Real Fire Think she has a price claim on this one in a spot where there are a few potential forward players to keep the tempo honest, and her last might have been a touch better than it looks at first glance. Along late at a price?
#2 Gracelund Gray The mile trip off the layoff is the only thing keeping me from landing here, as she also seems likely to have a little bit of company up near the top. Still, nothing wrong with being within a length of Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint show horse Ag Bullet in those last two.
#5 Yerwanthere Finisher would benefit from a solid pace, and she has been super consistent when racing outside of stakes company. One of the ones in a fun race.
Race Summary Could see this going a number of ways and have a little interest in #6 Well Into as well. Real Fire has a sneaky chance today with a potentially advantageous race flow waiting for her.

            Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

            Gulfstream Park - Race #2
#4 CRYSTAL COAST (2-1) Drops for 18-percent route-to-sprint barn, seeks first win since March claim.
#2 DEVRA WARRIOR (6-1) Awakened in the slop to rally for an upset win at this level, changes riders.
#5 SHEZ SPEIGHTFUL (8-5) Can control pace, romped two back in 6F race that yielded 6/0-0-0 follow-ups.
Race Summary CRYSTAL COAST hasn’t raced 7F or on conventional dirt in four years, but she worked a :48 bullet on the Gulfstream Park main track since her last start and should have enough to beat this field off a pair of long-distance tries at this level. She gave way chasing speedy Noble Dreamer last out before a 25-1 shot passed by for the win and followed with a repeat victory last Saturday. Bet to win and place and play 4-2 and 4-5 exactas.
            Gulfstream Park - Race #3
#8 PARTY QUEEN (4-1) Led and tired in productive MSW turf race at one mile, good value play.
            #6 LA CYBER (6-1) Debuts for D’Angelo; dam’s siblings were 7/3-3-1 as 2-year-olds.
#3 BREEZETHRUTIME (7-2) Got the jump in stretch on top two finishers in long sprint on grass.
Race Summary PARTY QUEEN set a pressured pace and tired at the quarter-mile pole in a debut turf route that produced two MSW winners and beaten favorites in stakes and allowance company. She’s a tempting price to go the distance on the class drop and the switch to the synthetic track. Bet to win and place and play a 3-6-8 exacta box.
            Gulfstream Park - Race #4
#1 SIR THOMAS TEAL (12-1) Burned serious money in debut, all-or-nothing that he shows up today.
#3 QUIZLER (8-5) Bid 3-wide into stretch, lead briefly, ran second in this spot in his first start.
#7 EL GALAN (30-1) Chased fast splits in 4-path in useful debut, big price attached.
Race Summary SIR THOMAS TEAL was heavily bet in his 5-1/2F debut off a series of slow workouts, but he showed little. Somebody knew something to make him the favorite, so maybe he will show up today at an inflated price. Play a 1-ALL exacta.

Race 4 - Maiden Claiming - 7.0f on the Dirt. Purse: $30500 Class Rating: 58

FOR MAIDENS, TWO YEARS OLD. WEIGHT, 118 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $25,000.
                  RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                  # 3 QUIZLER 8/5
                  # 4 CAJUN'S COOKIN 6/1
                  # 6 PAPA FERNANDEZ 8/1
QUIZLER looks to be a decent contender. He has been running quite well recently while recording sharp speed figures. A solid 72 avg class figure may give this colt a distinct class edge against this group of horses in this race. He should have a strong outing versus this less demanding lot. PAPA FERNANDEZ - Ran a very solid last race. Could best this field here, showing competitive figures of late.

QUARTER HORSE 550Y, FOR THREE YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD. THREE YEAR OLDS, 125 LBS.; OLDER, 128 LBS. TOTAL EARNINGS 2023/2024 PREFERRED.

                    # 6 RUNAWAY WILDFIRE 8/5
                    # 3 DM MOONPIE 9/5
                    # 10 POWER OF FAITH 6/1
RUNAWAY WILDFIRE is my choice. Could beat this group given the 79 Equibase Speed Fig recorded in his last outing. A solid 92 avg Equibase class figure may give this gelding a distinct class edge against this group. Going in a longer quarter horse race gives this gelding a formidable shot. DM MOONPIE - With a formidable 91 average Equibase Speed Figure at the distance, seems well suited for today's contest. A solid 100 avg class figure may give this gelding a distinct class edge versus this group. POWER OF FAITH - Earned a formidable speed rating in the last race. Can run another good one in this affair.

                      Charles Town - Race #5 - Post: 9:02pm - Maiden Special - 4.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $26,500 Class Rating: 65

                      Rating:

                      #4 T REX UNION (ML=3/1)
                      #6 CONNECT THE DOTS (ML=5/2)
                      #5 BLESSINGS BESTOWED (ML=8/1)

T REX UNION - Runco has this gelding placed in the perfect contest. CONNECT THE DOTS - First-timer has works over the Charles Town strip, which is always a plus. This dam (Happy Numbers) has had strong success with first out winners, cashing 50 pct of the time. Farrior adds Lasix to this one today. I'd look for an improvement. BLESSINGS BESTOWED - This gelding was overlooked in the betting when he made his debut Oct 26th. Look for another big effort today. Thorpe rode this mount for the first time last race out and comes right back in this race. I like to play this handicapping angle, a pony coming back off a good effort within the last month.

Vulnerable Contenders: #2 BOLD ROCK (ML=9/5),

BOLD ROCK - This steed has been letting down the bettors as the favorite time and time again. Not a value play to back the chalk when he continues to lose time and time again when favored.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Put your money on #4 T REX UNION on the nose if you can get odds of 5/2 or more

                        Woodbine - Race #3 - Post: 2:19pm - Maiden Special - 7.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $111,300 Class Rating: 92

                        Rating:

                        #7 LUMBERYARD (ML=6/1)

LUMBERYARD - Finished in the place spot, but easily second over the third horse. Those types usually run well next time out. This gelding is very reliable, frequently finishing in the money. Maiden is switching to the dirt, and may not have liked the turf last out. Has a good chance to break maiden status. This gelding is rounding his way back into shape. Should perform well today.

                        Vulnerable Contenders: #4 MAP'S A BREEZE (ML=8/5), #6 RAFAROO (ML=3/1), #3 HIGHLAND BLUE (ML=5/1),

MAP'S A BREEZE - October 19th is the last time we've seen this colt around. Have to be a little bit leery. RAFAROO - The Brain always tells me to stay away from ponies in sprint contests that haven't finished in the money in sprint affairs recently. Didn't hit the board on August 23rd at Woodbine. Followed it up with another less than stellar effort. Will be tough for this horse to beat this field off of that last speed figure. Not likely to improve enough to run a figure anywhere near today's class rating, so put him on the likely underpriced equines list. HIGHLAND BLUE - Could be tough for this horse to beat this field off of that last speed fig. Not probable to improve enough to run a figure close to today's class rating, so put him on the questionable contenders list.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: #7 LUMBERYARD is the play if we get odds of 1/1 or better
                        EXACTA WAGERS: 7 with 2
                        TRIFECTA WAGERS: None

                            # 4 FATED FIRE 7/2
All signs point to SILENT CROSSING for the pick. When the starter calls, fine animals coming out of the 5 hole have more wins than the expected average. Fantastic hitting the board rate for Borth and this harness racer. A formidable likelihood to get the score. FLIGHT CREW N - Have to give the nod to a contender coming out of the Woodbine Mohawk Park 6 position. The win percentage is great, way above normal. She has been battling soundly and the TrackMaster speed figs are among the most favorable in the group of horses. FATED FIRE - Achieved a 75 speed rating last time out. A duplicate contest here should get the win in this contest.

DARLIN'S CAPTAIN unquestionably appears to be the entrant to beat in this one. Overall stats appear very nice. Can't throw out at this point. When the trainer Cano puts Napolitano up for the drive really good things happen. All you need to do is look at the 35 win percent. Recent statistics for the driver - 22 percent win - make this colt a clear choice in the field. OLIVE AND A TWIST - Driver-trainer are no strangers to the winners circle and should have this gelding breaking away from the field of horses. With superior win numbers, McCarthy should have this gelding in excellent position to win the contest. SPICY STORY - This standardbred and Chiodo have a very good relationship. In the money pct for this twosome is high.
