Jeff Siegel's What You Need to Know - National - 12/13/24

    December 13, 2024

Jeff Siegel’s “What You Need to Know”
    Gulfstream Park/Los Alamitos

GULFSTREAM PARK RACE 6: Post: 3:02 PM ET Grade: B+
    Top Selection/Prime Play: 6-Ruth

    Forecast
: In a maiden main track miler for juvenile fillies in which the known element doesn’t impress, let’s opt for a promising first timer. Ruth, a homebred daughter of Uncle Mo, has done some very good work in the morning for trainer T. Pletcher, lands top rider I. Ortiz, Jr., and looks well-spotted to graduate at first asking at 8/5 on the morning line. A full sister to the high class, multiple stakes winning filly Mopotism, she may not be sprinter quick, so it makes sense to debut her at this elongated distance. The barn has solid stats with the first time starter angle and the work tab should have her plenty fit; let’s back her with enthusiasm on the tote and in the various rolling exotics.

    __________________________________________________ ____________________________
LOS ALAMITOS RACE 8: Post: 4:00 PT Grade: B+
    Top Selection/Prime Play: 7-Itzel

    Forecast: Itzel
lost her chance with a poor start in her most recent outing but did well to rally and finish a willing third in a race she might have won with a clean break. She finished a distant fourth in her debut in her only prior outing on the main track but there really isn’t any reason she won’t handle dirt. The P. Miller-trained filly lands the cozy outside post, adds blinkers, switches to A. Fresu, takes a one level class drop, and shows four nice breezes in the interim, so we’re expecting the daughter of Mo Town to snap back with a major effort. At 5/2 on the morning line, she offers good value in the win pool and in the various exotic plays.

Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

      December 13, 2024 | By Al Cimaglia

Yonkers Raceway has a 9-race card. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 6, and the sequence will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

      Race 6 (8:40 PM EST)

2-Two Pistol Annie (6-1)-Annie is 0-8 at Yonkers and that is a concern. But need to use at this price and with an inside post draw. ANap drove on 10-25 and rallied from the back to finish a beaten 2nd. Comes back in sequence and will look for an aggressive steer. Should be in striking range turning for the wire.
5-Rec Time (9/2)-Not a fan of playing 2nd time Lasix after winning using it for the first time. Plus, will be stepping up in class but against this crew will reconsider. Can dance with this kind and could double if Dan Dube provides a smooth trip.

      Race 7 (9:00 PM EST)

2-Dark Mind (8-1)-Shipped in from Pocono and made a break, and that happens occasionally. Willing to toss that start, ANap steers and he posts 31% winners for the Noel Daley barn. Should offer a solid price and has taken 2 pictures in 12 starts at YR.
5-Bontoni Degato S (3-1)-Went gate to wire as an odds-on chalk. Steps up but still look like the main threat. Loses Jason Bartlett to the Dilloian entry #1, but Brent Holland is more than capable.

      Race 8 (9:20 PM EST)

3-Cheryls Shadow (7/2)-Has battled the Invites in the last 3 races and has hit the board in the previous 2 starts. Went gate to wire 4 back versus this kind and will look for a same plan here.
4-Easy To Please (9/2)-Has a similar profile to the one above. Drops out of the Invites and won 4 back at this same class. Jordan Stratton should have in range to come off cover and roll by down the lane.

      Race 9 (9:40 PM EST)

2-Whatineedisaman (7/2)-Raced better in the last start and that was at this level. This will be the 2nd start for the Per Engblom barn and Bartlett steers again. Did go the back half in 57.3 to miss by a neck in last. The winner isn't in this field, comes back in sequence and will anticipate an even better effort tonight.

      $2.00 Late Pick 4

      2,5/2,5/3,4/2
      Total Bet=$16

Remington Park Pick 4 for Friday, Dec. 13

        December 13, 2024 | By Frank Carulli

        REMINGTON PARK PICK 4
        Friday, December 13, 2024

Remington Park’s Springboard Mile has done exactly that for the likes of: 2020 champ Senor Buscador, winner of the 2024 Saudi Cup, the world’s richest race; Grade 3 winner and stakes-record holder Greyvitos, who won the Kentucky Derby prep race in 1:37.14 in 2017; and Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen, who has three 2-year-olds entered in this year’s race as he seeks his eighth win. The $300,000 Springboard Mile this Friday, Dec. 13, caps an all-stakes Late Pick 4 that shapes up this way:

RP 9th race (9:52 p.m. EST) -- GLEE will carry the hopes of many Pick 4 players as the likely odds-on choice in the $75,000 Toby Keith Stakes. The Asmussen-trained 2-year-old filly was pestered on the lead in the $50,000 E.L. Gaylord Memorial until she quickly separated from the field in the stretch to win by 15-1/2 lengths in her first start at Remington Park. She flattened out in a follow-up try in the $200,000 Myrtlewood at Keeneland that featured five prior-race winners who averaged a 72 Beyer speed figure in those wins. Locally-based ELEGANT ECHO rallied past four next-out winners in the $100,000 Oklahoma Classics Lassie and ‘powered to the front’ to beat the troubled favorite two starts back. She broke poorly as the 4-to-5 favorite in the $50,000 Slide Show at this distance and was unhurried until she drew abreast of the leaders with a 5-wide sweep on the turn before stalling on a very sloppy track. TAPITURES ACTOR was pinched at the start, losing several lengths, ranged up 3-wide into the stretch and finished a clear second in the 6-1/2F race against Glee. She bounced back to beat a weak stakes field in the $100,000 My Trusty Cat at Delta Downs to improve to 2-for-3 with Lasix and blinkers.

RP 10th race (10:23 p.m. EST) -- CORNINGSTONE, multiple graded stakes-placed at 1-1/16 miles, starts at her 11th different venue with a gaudy 18/6-6-3 record on dirt and a $583k bankroll. Her class and consistency should prevail in the $75,000 She’s All In Stakes at 1 mile and 70 yards. BRU NA BOINNE won her last three routes on the main track with ascending speed figures and should offer good enough value to use as a backup selection.

RP 11th race (10:54 p.m. EST) -- SILVER PROSPECTOR backed off a duel, made a ‘strong’ re-bid on the final turn and hung in late stretch as his three-peat bid came up a length short. But the multiple Grade 3-winning millionaire should sit an ideal trip from just off the pace in the $75,000 Jeffrey A. Hawk Memorial in lieu of his first stakes win in 2-1/2 years. U.S. ARMY should be the target, stretching out off a troubled sprint try as the overwhelming favorite at a track where he’s 5-for-10.
RP 12th race (11:25 p.m. EST) -- Hitting the ‘ALL’ button in the featured Springboard Mile. Morning-line favorite SPEED KING was bumped at the start and didn’t change leads in the stretch, but held off the favorite, nonetheless, in a debut Maiden Special Weight upset at Churchill Downs with an 82 Beyer speed figure. JOLLY SAMURAI and MISTER OMAHA boast three-race winning streaks and two stakes victories apiece at Remington Park. DR. RUBEN M held on to defeat a solid MSW field at Santa Anita at this distance despite getting ‘weary late.’ COMPLEX MUSIC looks best of the uncoupled Asmussen trio off an allowance romp sprinting at Horseshoe Indianapolis.

        Suggested 50-Cent Ticket
        RP 9th Race: 3, 6
        RP 10th Race: 2, 7
        RP 11th Race: 7, 8
        RP 12th Race: ALL
        Cost: $48

          Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

          Fair Grounds - Race #5
#5 Midnight Mary Get a look at her on the tote and track ahead of this, but I'm not sure how afraid you're supposed to be of anything else on paper in here, and Loveberry has been riding this trip better than anyone so far this season.
#1 Escovedo She'll probably take the worst of any early battle from the fence, but this barn does ace work with these types and could have this one ready for something much better on turf today.
#8 Tanti Auguri Firster goes for a capable team and gets Ortiz in the irons, so all signs point to this one being ready to go right out of the box. But I'm assuming the bettors aren't going to overlook that, either.
Race Summary Midnight Mary debuts in what feels like a pretty modest type of spot for the local level, so I'm willing to start my work with taking a look at her in the paddock and on the track.
          Fair Grounds - Race #7
#4 Bad Beat Brian Might be starting to chase this guy a little bit after landing on him in those last two starts -- and he has made dangerous enough moves to keep me back for one more try today. Should get a beautiful trip just in behind the pace, but they're probably going to have to be very careful to make sure he doesn't hit top too early in this long stretch.
#6 Gilded Ruler Honest finisher has been in with some decent groups and should also get a decent trip from off the splits. Not sure I'd want to be here at too short a price if his number heads that way.
#1 American Know How Honest type rarely runs a bad one and turned in a solid comeback effort last time out at Delta that could have him set for something even better today in the second start back from the long break. The back turf form fits.
Race Summary Bad Beat Brian gets the call from me again after turning in a couple decent efforts in Kentucky, and I could see him getting a first-jump run to score if the timing is right.
          Fair Grounds - Race #8
#2 Acknowledge Wouldn't argue too hard with anyone trying to beat this guy at what figures to be a short price while trying two turns for the first time, but there just really isn't much on paper in this spot other than his solid run last out. Should graduate here.
#1 Same Play Not the worst idea to go looking for a fresh face in a race without much form, so take a look at him on the tote and track. A good post and a little pace can go a long way in these mile races.
#6 Blondate Forward player might meet a little bit of other pace, but he seems like an OK fit here if he's able to avoid getting caught up with speed and can find some more finishing punch. Not totally sold.
Race Summary Acknowledge ran a good one last out, and that's something few of these can say. Guessing he's going to be tough to close the day.

            Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

            Remington Park - Race #1
#1 CHEROKEE SUNRISE (3-1) Moved into slow pace at 1M, ran third, meets unproven long sprinters.
#3 GOSPEL CESS (20-1) Hard used chasing fast pace in race that produced winner and two runners-up.
#9 GOSPEL SHARE (4-1) Rallied 5-wide, bore in, DQ’d from second behind 1-to-5 winner, takes on boys.
Race Summary CHEROKEE SUNRISE ‘ranged up to the front’ but flattened out in deep stretch at one mile, but he held third to become the only entrant in the field to place in a race beyond 6F. Give him the nod from the rail for a 21-percent route-to-sprint barn. Bet to win and place and play a 1-3-9 exacta box.
            Remington Park - Race #3
#6 REBA DEBA (5-2) Burned serious money in last pair after useful try in deep stakes field.
#4 EVERYONE NOS WENDY (15-1) Stepped it up for :36-1/5 gate work; dam was debut MSW winner.
#7 GOSPEL CLARITY (3-1) Close-up second in last four starts, covering three surfaces.
Race Summary REBA DEBA ran second in her debut, finished between four next-out winners in the ‘Lassie’ Stakes, then failed as the odds-on favorite at 6F and one mile. She gets one more chance to make amends for a high-percentage barn with 2-year-olds. Bet to win and place and play 6-4 and 6-7 exactas.
            Remington Park - Race #5
#9 TRUST DADDY (5-1) Won twice at Keeneland and once at Del Mar in last seven starts on dirt.
#10 CHAMPAGNE STOOPER (9-2) Followed move of winning fave, finished strong 4-wide for second.
#5 COPPER STORM (5-2) Sat golden trip off hard-dueling leaders, ran second in allowance debut.
Race Summary TRUST DADDY won his first three long sprints in 2024 before he faded badly in a 7F allowance at Churchill Downs last out. He cuts back to a short sprint and projects an ideal stalking trip with plenty of speed to his inside. He’s the better priced of Asmussen-trained entrants, so bet to win and place.

ENTERDADRAGON is my choice. Extra focus caused by blinkers change (going off today) likely to result in a big race. I think having Camacho ride this gelding is a smart move. Posted a reliable speed rating in the last race. Can run another good one in this affair. DUMB MONEY - Ought to be given a shot based on the decent speed fig recorded in the last contest. FULLY AUTHORIZED - Recent figures for the rider - 16 win percent - make this colt stand out in this field.

                    Pleasanton - Race #3 - Post: 2:15pm - Maiden Claiming - 8.3 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $11,500 Class Rating: 62

                    Rating:

                    #4 MISS PERU (ML=9/5)

MISS PERU - This filly is in superb form right now. Finished third in the last race and comes back soon. Rondan gets a break on this thoroughbred carrying 7 pounds less than last out. Should help right here in this race.

                    Vulnerable Contenders: #2 SILVER FLIRT (ML=2/1), #3 DIXIE ROSE LEE (ML=7/2), #1 MAMARANDO (ML=9/2),

SILVER FLIRT - I cannot play this confirmed non-winner. Gets the job executed infrequently. DIXIE ROSE LEE - The speed ratings are going downward. I'm not playing this pony off of that trend. MAMARANDO - Hard to put your money on the win end of any horse that finishes second and third as often as this entrant does. Won't be easy for this horse to beat this field off of that last speed rating. Unlikely to improve enough to run a figure anywhere near today's class figure, so put her on the likely underpriced equines list.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Bet on #4 MISS PERU to win if we can get at least 1/1 odds

                      # 9 VERBAL GEYSER (FR) 3/1
                      # 12 BELLE BREZING 8/1
                      # 4 MAGIC BEAUTY 7/2
VERBAL GEYSER (FR) figures to be the bet in here. Is a key contender - given the 84 speed rating from her most recent race. Is a strong contender based on numbers put up lately under today's conditions. This filly has posted some nice finishing positions in her last few starts. BELLE BREZING - This mare is coming back in next to no time to race. MAGIC BEAUTY - Will most likely come out solid - I have liked the way this filly has moved sharply to the front end recently. Recent numbers for the jock - 15 win percent - make this filly stand out in this group.

                        Oaklawn Park - Race #4 - Post: 1:54pm - Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $35,000 Class Rating: 67

                        Rating:

                        #11 SASSY LASS (ML=5/1)
                        #3 SPARKLY (ML=9/2)

SASSY LASS - State bred races are generally easier than 'open' company, and this filly's move into the 'state bred' class today should make her tough in here. Looking at today's Equibase class figure, this thoroughbred is encountering an easier bunch than last race out at Oaklawn Park. Look for this filly to run much better in today's race. Last clash at Oaklawn Park finishing sixth on a sloppy track is no indication of her true ability. SPARKLY - Comes out of a last race against 'open' company on October 22nd and faces what I believe are easier 'state breds' today. Taking a trip down the ladder based on class rating points; has the form to make her presence felt.

                        Vulnerable Contenders: #8 WILDWOOD QUEEN (ML=3/1), #1 CASHMERE BABY (ML=4/1), #6 NGALA (ML=6/1),

WILDWOOD QUEEN - In any contest of 6 furlongs, I like to play a contender that has been looking good in short distance contests lately. In this type of situation, this runner's inability to close ground in the last race is a matter of concern. Improbable that the speed fig she registered on October 31st will be enough in this affair. CASHMERE BABY - Can't wager on this vulnerable equine in today's sprint of 6 furlongs. Hasn't even finished in the money in a short distance event recently. NGALA - This filly hasn't been showing me anything in the last couple of races around the track.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Bet on #11 SASSY LASS to win if we can get at least 8/5 odds

STENING A sure does look ready to score. The group always pays close attention to interesting entrants with an change in equipment. Now racing freelegged for this gelding. ASTON HILL DAVE - This outing could be controlled by this gelding. Just one look at the avgerage speed rating will confirm that. Most definitely the class of the race with an average rating of 82. A nice pick. RAGGED BUT RIGHT - Has to be given a look based on the respectable TrackMaster Speed Rating achieved in the last race.

MR KNOWITALL has a nice shot to take this race. He's going to post in good form, recording sharp speed ratings. An excellent selection. Certainly did like this gelding's last race. Ran a strong 84 TrackMaster SR. Major player. Have to make Tritton the bet here if only for the last thirty days win clip. Big probability for the victory. STARLIT RAMBO - Have to think about a contender coming out of the Meadowlands 6 hole. The win percentage is superb, way above normal. He's racing in good form, recording very strong TrackMaster speed figs. An excellent pick. SWAN CAPTAIN - Horoscope said take a chance today, this interesting entrant is as good as any to take a shot with.
