Fair Grounds - Race #2

#7 Jus Makes Cents	Get a look at her ahead of this one, but I'm not super worried about the overall depth of this race beyond the chalk, so maybe this one can make some noise as a fresh face.
#4 Pretty Prairie	She's a reliable enough type who has been knocking on the door so far this season, and she's really not meeting much at all in this one. Spy and pounce score is well within reach at a short price.
#5 About to Set Sail	She is one of the main dangers, but she has to turn the tables on 'Prairie from their last two meetings. Capable, but tough to get too excited.
Race Summary	Jus Makes Cents goes first out with a fun little Louisiana pedigree that could help make her a mild runner -- feels like you only have to get through Pretty Prairie to land this one.

Fair Grounds - Race #6

#5 Broadway Pearl	She might find a pretty dreamy spot while right up on the rail runner's pace early on, and I think she's just a touch more likely to fire a winning shot on the main than this next one...
#6 War Tourist	Think she's the one to beat in here, but I worry about her getting stacked up wide on both turns while drawn outside of a few other horses with similar styles. Lots to like if Geroux can work the trip.
#1 Mo Smoking	Don't really trust her to stay much here, but she's probably controlling pace if she can get away cleanly, and she might be able to hang for a piece if she doesn't take too much early pressure.
Race Summary	Broadway Pearl and War Tourist look like the right pair in a top-heavy race, but 'Pearl might offer just a slightly better number while maybe getting the jump.

Fair Grounds - Race #8

#2 Lil Woadie	Maybe he's at the spot where he needs the softer sides of this Louisiana circuit to make some noise, but the race he came out of also came back well, so I'm willing to give him a look against that same crew after he scratched out of the latest go.
#9 Mucho Marvin	That last one was probably even better than it looks, as he was making a sustained wide move while the winner eventually came through underneath. Might have been best that day and could be here.
#6 Pepper Jack	There might be enough pace to give him a chance to get past some of these at a price -- that last one might stack up OK while cutting the tag again.
Race Summary	Mucho Marvin is probably the most logical one on top for me, but I think Lil Woadie is worth a look at a price with a couple of $5,000 tries on his page offering some hope.

3^rd race [NY, OC 80k/N1X, 6 ? F] – (4) Soontobeking (A) got shut off during a late rally where he was blocked and had to check badly at the eighth pole. He drops out of a series of NY-bred stakes races. (2) Kenny Be broke his maiden by more than eight lengths in October and then was second in the Notebook Stakes ahead of the Hot List horse. (3) Fireballin was a debut winner for Mike Maker at 7-1 last month at Aqueduct. (5) In the Chase was also a first-time out maiden winner who has made four starts in stakes.

4^th race [Clm 10000, 6F] – (1) Jake Rocks was claimed for $10,000 last time for a trainer that has good stats with newly claimed runners. In that race he was fourth after having to check badly. (3) Quick Hammer set the pace and was second at this level just 10 days ago. (2) Can’t Beat Me is a past winner for a $12,500 tag that has been racing against better recently. (7) Thank You John comes back in eight days and drops down to the lowest level showing in his past performances with ample early speed.

5^th race [Clm 40000 N2L, 6 ? F] – (1) She’s Always Rosie and (1A) Pam Pam make a Linda Rice entry where both of them are win contenders. (4) Carol T drops into a claimer and a N2L condition for the first time after a series of good allowance starts. (7) Stress Reliever was a maiden special weight winner who came back from an eight month layoff in an allowance and also drops into a claimer for the first time. (2) She’s Cool returns on two weeks rest when she was claimed for $25,000 after running third.

8^th race [OC 62k/N2X, 1 mi] – (9) Victory Way (B) came back from a 16 month layoff and ran an excellent race as a horse that had run longer distances in prior races and now gets it. (3) Treaty Obligation won three races in a row moving from a maiden claimer to a starter allowance and the last month in an allowance. (7) Seeking Unity was second at this level in November behind a horse that came back to win his next start also. (6) Magical Ways moved from turf to dirt and ran second the whole race with a top speed figure.

Best bets: Soontobeking (3^rd); Linda Rice entry (5^th). Best value: Jake Rocks (4^th); Victory Way (8^th).

2^nd race – (2) Southern Palace takes a big class drop and should prove best. (6) Cerchi may step up back on dirt. (5) Gullfaxi has some speed and is a threat here. Betting strategy: 2 to win, place. Exacta box: 2-5-6.

6th race – (8) Into Royalty (A) had a troubled debut when fourth and should make amends here. (7) Madam Opus looks like a promising firster from Brown. 8th race – (3) Kerry exits a stakes and may have found a winning spot. (1) Sol Hope has some late kick and will be aided by a ground-saving trip. (5) Tiffany Gold has speed and could be tough to catch. (4) Bandonarun returns from a layoff but should be a factor. Betting strategy: 3 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-3-4-5.

10th race - (4) Corruption figures to be more competitive in a claimer. (8) War Officer faces claimers and is the one to fear. (9) McGinnis returns to a claimer and should be in the picture. SHE'S COOL - I like this filly a lot here. She shows a lot of consistency, finishing in the money frequently. I like to wager on this angle, a thoroughbred coming back off a strong race within the last thirty days. PAM PAM - A big drop down in class rating points from her December 1st race at Aqueduct. Based on that info, I will give this horse the advantage. Jock jumped on this filly's back for the first time on December 1st. Should be in touch with the animal even better in today's contest. You have to like that last race speed fig, 75, which is the highest most recent race speed figure of this field. SCARLET'S DREAM - Giddings brings her right back. I advocate you stay with this strong filly. Trainer, Giddings, has been deliberate with this filly off the layoff. Look for a solid effort today. PP lines show this thoroughbred with 3 improving speed figures. Maragh should be on a live horse in this event.

SHE'S ALWAYS ROSIE - I think this chalk horse needs this race under her belt to start getting back into shape. Not likely for this thoroughbred to make an impact with no recent success in a short distance event. STRESS RELIEVER - 3/1 is too low of a price to take on most any thoroughbred that has run poorly in back to back outings. CAROL T - This horse likes to be on the board, but doesn't usually win. Keep out of the top spot. Unlikely that the fig she recorded on Dec 15th will be good enough in this event.

This jockey and handler team has produced some sharp ROI numbers at this track.

Hard not to get behind DRUNKONAPLANE as the top play this time. Post 5 has been winning at a better than expected percentage, suggesting great probability of success for this race. NO FREE LUNCH - A very good play in here as he has one of the highest winning percents in the bunch as well as super credentials all around. The consortium noted a bang-up effort out of this standardbred last time. Looking for a repeat effort of that to score. TRIFECTA HANOVER - He looks very good in this race and should find a way to take advantage of favorable pace statistics. This horse has a nose for the wire, just look at his better than average win percent.
