    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

    Mahoning Valley - Race #1
#7 Indy's Hope Bit of a concern about him coming alive too late again today, but a few of the other threats in here don't feel super trustworthy late, and this one could be along to land it.
#7 Hidden Heart He's a real threat on form, but he tends to be in good spots turning for home but still hasn't been able to close the deal. Wouldn't surprise, but he's vulnerable to getting picked up late.
#3 Vernon's Best He's another obvious player, but that was also the case in his recent starts here when he burned a bunch of cash and didn't really threaten a winner while doing so. Your call.
Race Summary Indy's Hope has some honest finishing form that should serve him well in a race with a couple of major question marks likely to take some cash.
    Mahoning Valley - Race #9
#7 Whiskey Diamond She rises off the claim with some dangerous speed, but she's going to have to work for it every step today. Not sure anyone else in here is nearly as committed as she is, so she should have another go on the engine.
#3 Officially Yours She should be right in the mix early on with the top choice, but she's a little bit classier than that one right now. She caught a nice winner last out and fits right back.
#8 Cali Cruiser The form on her page looks a lot better once you draw a line through the two route tries this fall, and that remaining sprint form stacks up very well with these.
Race Summary Whiskey Diamond has some capable pace while trying this tougher group, and I'm hoping she'll stretch them out a bit like she did in that last one while the rest wait for her to come back.
    Mahoning Valley - Race #10
#1 All My Life He made a nice first impression when scoring from close range, and that kind of style could leave him in a great spot from the fence to stay tucked in just behind the quicker players again today.
#5 Main Line Cipher That was a decent enough local debut when just missing, and something like that probably makes him tough right back. Price will reflect his chances.
#6 Call It a Night There is some decent finishing form on his page that should give him a chance to get past some of these, but he has several lengths to turn on 'Cipher from when they met last out.
Race Summary All My Life steps up off the solid debut win, and his tactical style could lead to another great trip while stepping up to try winners.

      Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

      Parx - Race #1
#1 HOTPOT (6-1) Strong play in dreadful field at proven distance, can return quick claim dividend.
#9 NUEDORF (4-1) Takes some catching in first long sprint attempt, must use on all tickets.
#8 GEEBERT (7-2) Drops off the claim, $450k earner can beat these on memory alone.
Race Summary Somebody has to win in a field that is a combined 51/0-6-4 since the July 14 eligibility cutoff date. That being said, there’s nothing wrong with HOTPOT at a generous 6-1 on the morning line. He finished second off similar rest at this level with Haddock aboard in the fall, then had ‘late energy’ as the odds-on favorite last out. Bet to win and place and play 1-8, 1-9 and 9-1 exactas.
      Parx - Race #2
#7 PARISIAN VIBE (12-1) Good vibes for repeat upset off game front-end performance in latest.
#2 PEYTON’S COLLEGE (7-2 Edged away to win in prior start at this level, could sit similar trip.
#5 MISS M M (9-2) Piling up the checks but hasn’t won on the main track in a long time.
Race Summary PARISIAN VIBE showed improved speed despite stumbling ‘badly’ at the break. She dueled inside of the favored PONTIFFANY in the stretch and won through disqualification after she checked while in tight at the 1/8th pole. No reason to believe she can’t pull off another upset win. Bet to win and place.
      Parx - Race #3
#5 RED HAIRED GAL (6-1) Improved as 3yo through maiden romp, idle since September claim.
#6 NEIGHBELLINE (4-1) Ran second from on and off the pace at 6F, won in lone long sprint try on dirt.
#1 ZONING ORDER (5-1) Contended in long-distance races in Canada, shortens up for new barn.
Race Summary RED HAIRED GAL, idle since a September claim at Tampa Bay Downs, makes her first start locally. She ran away with a one-mile maiden win at this level, then ‘circled the field’ 4-wide on the turn but ‘had nothing left’ in the stretch next out. Hoping for a bounce back for a good claim barn. Bet to win and place and play a 5-ALL exacta.

Race 5 - Maiden Optional Claiming - 6.0f on the Dirt. Purse: $21000 Class Rating: 81

FOR MAIDENS, FOUR YEARS OLD AND UPWARD. WEIGHT, 124 LBS. OPTIONAL CLAIMING PRICE $30,000.
            RECOMMENDED CHOICES
            # 2 DAGGER RANCH 8/5
            # 4 G G GILLEY 5/1
            # 3 SPEAKING LOUD 12/1
DAGGER RANCH has a very strong shot to take this race. His 77 average has this colt with among the strongest Equibase Speed Figures for this event. Put up a sound speed figure in the last race. Can run another good one in this contest. Has a solid shot in this event if you like back class. G G GILLEY - He has been running soundly lately while recording strong Speed Figures. With a quite good 80 Equibase speed fig last time out, will definitely be a factor in this competition.

              Parx Racing - Race #10 - Post: 3:41pm - Starter Allowance - 6.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $30,000 Class Rating: 69

              Rating:

              #3 OBSTINATE (ML=5/1)
              #6 OUR LITTLE TIGER (ML=10/1)

OBSTINATE - Ran in the last race against much better company at Parx Racing. The move down the class scale should suit her well. Mare looks like the lone speed here. She may turn the race into a procession. After the contest aboard this animal on Dec 16th, the rider is going to 'know' the mare much better. Just check out her last speed rating, 81. That one fits well in this bunch. Trainer, Flores-Coba, has been deliberate with this mare off the layoff. Look for a solid effort today. This mare is in good physical condition. Ended up second on December 16th. OUR LITTLE TIGER - I expect this race horse to surprise some fans this time.

              Vulnerable Contenders: #4 R TENDERONI (ML=4/1), #7 LA TOURISTA (ML=9/2),

R TENDERONI - Multiple attempts for this racer at Parx Racing and still hasn't received her first victory here. LA TOURISTA - This mare probably needs a better pace scenario to make her closing rush. Quite unimpressive speed fig last time around the track at Parx Racing at 6 1/2 furlongs. Don't feel this less than sharp equine will improve too much in today's event.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Go with #3 OBSTINATE on top if we're getting at least 7/5 odds
              EXACTA WAGERS: Box [3,6]
              TRIFECTA WAGERS: Pass

Mahoning Valley Race Course - Race #7 - Post: 3:03pm - Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $11,100 Class Rating: 84

                Rating:

                #6 DANVILLE (ML=8/1)
                #8 DYRDEK (ML=4/1)

DANVILLE - On board this horse on Dec 18th and Bermudez is back again in the irons in this race. Dropping down in class rating points from his December 18th race at Turfway Park. Based on that valuable data, I will give this horse the advantage. DYRDEK - Forgive the outside the top 3 finish on the off track last out. Under normal track conditions, has a shot right here. Closed well in last clash. Longer distance should help. Horse made up some ground in the stretch last race out on December 10th at Mahoning Valley Race Cour. That clash is better than it looked.

                Vulnerable Contenders: #3 CORONA GRANDE (ML=5/2), #10 SLIPPERY WHEN WET (ML=7/2), #1 KRUG (ML=6/1),

CORONA GRANDE - If you keep selecting these kind of 'hanger' types, you're going to be frustrated frequently. SLIPPERY WHEN WET - Ran well to finish second on December 16th, but hasn't had even a work since then. Difficult to put any dough on this gelding on the win end. Likes to end up on the board though. To me, when a horse adds wraps in his last event, it's never a good sign. KRUG - Quite unimpressive speed fig last time out at Mountaineer Park at 1 mile 70 yards. Don't think this questionable contender will improve too much in today's event.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - DYRDEK - Last time out is deceiving, better than it looked. Will give a nice performance in today's event.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Putting our cash on #6 DANVILLE to win. Have to have odds of at least 5/2 or better though
                EXACTA WAGERS: Box [6,8]
                TRIFECTA WAGERS: Skip

FOR MAIDENS, FILLIES THREE YEARS OLD. WEIGHT, 122 LBS. ALLOWED 0 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $25,000, FOR EACH $2,500 TO $20,000 2 LBS.
                  RECOMMENDED CHOICES

                  # 10 WYLDA WYLDE 8/1
                  # 7 TALIESIN 7/2
BAILOUT BILLY gets the edge as the bet in here. Will make a strong performance versus this bunch. WYLDA WYLDE - Has respectable Equibase Class Figures relative to this group of animals - worth a look. Has the look of a money-making bet. TALIESIN - Competitive try today on Lasix. Has competitive early speed and will most likely fare soundly versus this group.
