    #2
    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

    Mahoning Valley - Race #4
#1 Mima Princess She has had some chances already and doesn't bring anything flashy with her here from Mountaineer, but there are very few of them in here who can get past horses, and she might be able to run on late for some of this at a price.
#3 Josie's Girl She can be tough while bringing that Turfway and Horseshoe Indianapolis form with her into this one, but I worry just a bit about her having to hustle for position at this sharper trip with three starts on her page that have not shown a whole lot of late grit.
#6 Solo Surprise She draws outside of some of the other forward players, giving her a chance to press or spy the whole way, but she was no serious threat in the debut against just four others. Upside needed.
Race Summary Mima Princess might be too light for these, but she has at least been able to pass horses in some of her races, and that may be enough to give her a chance based on race flow today.
    Mahoning Valley - Race #8
#9 The Miracle Kiut Tons of respect for the filly drawn just one stall inside, but I'm hoping this one will be able to sit just outside and keep tabs on that talent throughout. Mild upset chance?
#8 Silent Rule Nothing wrong through four starts, including that November stakes win here, and this open spot is mostly full of Ohio-breds anyway. The one to beat.
#2 Kant Elope Not sure she's going to offer the 20/1 ML price today, but she has some speed from near the inside to stay in the picture throughout. Think the race shape is tough for her, though.
Race Summary The Miracle Kiut and Silent Rule look like the right pair to me, but the former will be a much better price and might be quick enough to take advantage of the outside draw by keeping some pressure on the chalk.
    Mahoning Valley - Race #9
#6 All My Life Willing to take the debut run at face value and hope there is something more here in the second trip to post. Liked the way he tracked and punched past, and a similar trip could work in his favor today.
#3 Main Line Cipher He's an obvious threat with this crew, but that was also the case at 7/5 when facing some of these last time around. Price probably won't be that appealing again.
#8 Call It A Night He's a reliable enough finisher who would benefit if a few of the forward players flashed some pace, but I think he's most likely an underneath threat again today.
Race Summary All My Life was well meant in the debut run when scoring easily from close range, and I'm hoping some reasonable upside today might be enough to keep him in the mix with 'Cipher.

      #3
      Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

Tampa Bay Downs - Race #1
#8 ROUGH AND ROWDY (6-1) Solid return, solid workout since then, value remains on class rise.
#3 MAXIMATCH (3-1) Exits allowance ranks, posted some big numbers in defeat.
#2 SWEN (15-1) Awakened in well-bet second start, switches surfaces, switches barns.
Race Summary ROUGH AND ROWDY followed the move of the 2-1 winner and ran second off a nine-month layoff. He steps up in class but gets ample pace flow to rally into for a possible upset. Bet to win and place and play a 2-3-6-8 exacta box.
Tampa Bay Downs - Race #2
#6 MIA’S ANGEL (7-5) Duplicate of latest should be enough to graduate in this field.
#3 UNIFIEDS PRINCESS (12-1) Changes riders, stretches out, must stay in contact early.
#1 LADYS CHANT (2-1) Piling up the checks but running out of chances to win in 15th start.
Race Summary MIA’S ANGEL rallied for three seconds in her last four starts, the latest going a route of ground for the second time. She was out-kicked by the favorite but finished a clear second while racing 4- and 5-wide from the far turn to the finish. Bet to win and place and play a 6/1,3/ALL trifecta.
Tampa Bay Downs - Race #4
#5 CALENDULA (7-2) Lightly-raced but productive 10yo cuts back to sprint, projects good trip.
#7 EXPLOSIVE EXCHANGE (5-2) Second in higher-tagged sprints on turf and synthetic during 0-9 year.
#4 WOODS HOLE (3-1) Blew clear stretch leads in last two starts at 7F, has two wins at 6F.
Race Summary CALENDULA begins her 10-year-old season with an 11-53 record and $125k in earnings, but she is 0-8 at today’s distance. She last won at Tampa nine months ago for these connections, ran well enough in an $8,000 sprint prior to her victory and could mount a winning rally. Bet to win and place.

            Gulfstream Park - Race #9 - Post: 4:36pm - Maiden Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $44,000 Class Rating: 85

            Rating:

            #6 PONANT (ML=9/2)
            #5 MYTHIC PERFORMANCE (ML=4/1)
            #4 SALTED CARMEL (ML=8/1)

PONANT - Looks like the lone speed of the race. Should be tough on the front-end. He finished runner up January 12th, but was well clear of the third horse. Last out, ran the last quarter in less than 25 ticks. A pretty good sign he can close well, and should be right there at the end in today's contest. This colt's last speed rating is good enough to score here, I'll bet on him back again in today's event. MYTHIC PERFORMANCE - If you review the PP's for this thoroughbred, you'll see he has recorded the top speed rating at the distance and surface. A repeat performance right here and this horse has a superb chance to win. Looking at today's Equibase class figure, this pony is encountering an easier bunch than in the last race at Gulfstream Park. This horse earns a lot of cash per race around the track. Number one in this event. SALTED CARMEL - This horse has a lot of class. A good sign in a turf race like we have today.

            Vulnerable Contenders: #3 WHEELHOUSE (ML=5/1), #1 INDURINGHOPE (ML=6/1), #2 DEBT LIMIT (FR) (ML=8/1),

WHEELHOUSE - Not probable that this horse will finish better than he did last time out of the box when placing seventh. INDURINGHOPE - Last ran on February 10th at Fair Grounds, finishing fifth. Not likely to improve off of that outing in today's event. DEBT LIMIT (FR) - I'm foretelling a lackluster attempt out of him this time around.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Bet on #6 PONANT to win if you can get at least 4/1 odds
            EXACTA WAGERS: Box [4,5,6]

Race 4 - Maiden Special Weight - 5.0f on the Dirt. Purse: $35000 Class Rating: 67

FOR MAIDENS, FILLIES AND MARES FOUR YEARS OLD AND UPWARD. WEIGHT, 124 LBS.
              RECOMMENDED CHOICES
              # 4 BEAUTIFUL MISCHIEF 7/5
              # 1 RAILEY JEAN 5/1
              # 5 MIZ MASTERY 3/1
I've got to go with BEAUTIFUL MISCHIEF. Boasts sound speed figures on average overall when measured up against the rest of this group. With a competitive 93 Equibase Speed Fig last time out, will surely be a factor in this contest. Has a sharp shot in this contest if you like back class. RAILEY JEAN - Looks quite good against this group of horses and will almost certainly be one of the leaders. Posted a formidable Equibase Speed Fig in the most recent race. Can run another good one in this race. MIZ MASTERY - Recently Ramirez has provided bettors with a quite good winning percentage with horses racing in dirt sprint races. With Delcid aboard her, this filly will probably be able to break out sharply for this race.

                Race 7 - SA - 8.0f on the Dirt. Purse: $14500 Class Rating: 93

FOR FOUR YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD WHICH HAVE STARTED FOR A CLAIMING PRICE OF $4,000 OR LESS IN 2024 - 2025. WEIGHT, 124 LBS. NON-WINNERS OF A RACE AT A MILE OR OVER SINCE DECEMBER 22 ALLOWED 2 LBS.
                RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                # 11 SURPRISE FASHION 15/1
                # 4 LAB RAT 12/1
                # 5 FORT LANGLEY 6/1
SURPRISE FASHION looks very good to best this group and is a strong value bet given the line at 15/1. Shows formidable Speed Figures on average overall when compared with the rest of this group. Going in a dirt route race gives this gelding a very good shot. In fine fettle, and coming back in next to no time again this time out. LAB RAT - Has been running quite well lately and ought to be on or close to the lead early on. The speed rating of 85 from his latest contest looks decent in here. FORT LANGLEY - Should compete solidly in the early speed contest which bodes well with this group of animals. Is a strong contender based on numbers earned lately under today's conditions.

Mahoning Valley Race Course - Race #4 - Post: 1:39pm - Maiden Special - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $24,300 Class Rating: 72

                  Rating:

                  #6 SOLO SURPRISE (ML=7/2)

SOLO SURPRISE - Rode this racer on December 5th and Barbaran is right back in the irons this time. This filly surprised everybody by running third December 5th.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #3 JOSIE'S GIRL (ML=6/5), #7 LOVEBUG (ML=5/2), #1 MIMA PRINCESS (ML=8/1),

JOSIE'S GIRL - Hasn't finished in the money in any sprint events lately. Not likely to see her doing it this time either. Doesn't look inspiring to me after the lack of any sort of closing response on December 18th. LOVEBUG - Doubtful that the speed rating she notched on Dec 5th will hold up in this race. MIMA PRINCESS - A strong mount that's been running well, but she's been off the track in the mornings of late. I'm always uncertain about any horse that earns her biggest speed fig on an 'off' track.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - SOLO SURPRISE - Gorham is giving Lasix to this one. A solid chance of improvement should be expected.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Put your money on #6 SOLO SURPRISE on the nose if you can get odds of 1/1 or more
