Yonkers Raceway has a 10-race card. The $1.00 Pick 5 with a $10,000 guaranteed pool starts in Race 5. The $2.00 Late Pick 4 rolls in Race 7, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 7 (8:45 PM EST)

2-Funatthebeach N (10-1)-Put in a needed start last week and now Jordan Stratton sits behind the Gillis trainee. This barn has been cold since the Holiday break, and it remains to be seen if the veteran will need another race before it’s ready for a big try. Willing to use versus a field that isn’t deep and could be in line for a cozy trip.
3-Rock Diamonds N (2-1)-Came out of the Holiday break on a 3 race wins streak, the last coming in Philly. They all came going gate to wire and last week tried that act again but fell short. Gets post relief, could get an easy lead and Joe B might be able to steal a quarter.

Race 8 (9:05 PM EST)

1-Layton Hanover (9/2)-Recent form at DD has been a bit dull but the veteran has had 2 races in January and this looks like a wake up spot. Likes to win, took 10 pictures in 32 races last year and did really well at Yonkers hitting the board in 18 of 29 with 10 wins. Matt Kakaley will likely be headed down the road and the Alexander barn has been clicking to start the new year.
3-Finvarra A (5/2)-Dillioian trainee went the 2nd half in 56.2 to take a picture as an odd-on choice. Yannick Gingras sticks and now steps up to face the Invites. Deserves a shot to prove itself at this level and had the 7-hole the only other time facing this kind.

Race 9 (9:25 PM EST)

4-Italian Lad N (5/2)-This is a scattered bunch in a race that isn’t easy to read. Will look to the Godinez trainee who has raced 2 times at M1 this month. Should fit here and ANap has the gate speed to use to get a good early seat.
8-Bechers Brook A (7/2)-The 11-yr old came off the bench with a solid effort leaving from post 8 against this kind. Landed in 4th and didn’t have the smoothest of trips and couldn’t make up any ground. But that was the first start since Nov 13th and will look for better here even with the same post draw. Kakaley should be able to advance off the gate and be in reach of the leaders in the 2nd half of the mile.

Race 10 (9:45 PM EST)

1-Gingras Beach (5-1)-The Bucci entry does better when drawing inside. Might be overlooked and could provide some value. Will take a swing drawing the rail makes a winning a difference.
3-Shadow Cat (5/2)-Raced up front to a hot pace and moved forward down the lane. Jason Bartlett can have in play when the wings fold and should be in the hunt at the wire.
6-Ultimaroca (7/2)-Faded trying to go gate to wire against better. Jordon Stratton sticks and could be a main player on the drop in class. Will look for an aggressive steer and should be blasting out to take control when the wings fold.

Fair Grounds - Race #7

#7 Me Promesa	He has some upside while getting back around one turn and dropping in class, and I think he might be able to get past a few horses late -- that could be enough in a race with some chasing players.
#2 Gold Thief	Tough call for me here -- his better stuff would probably make him tough while trying claimers for the first time, but there are a few other forward players lined up in here and I worry he'll get stuck chasing on the cutback. Could roll, but I'd probably want a better number than we're going to get.
#4 Final Half	He should be in a good spot off the turn today, but he has been a little one-paced late in his races so far and could be stuck settling underneath again.
Race Summary	Me Promesa cuts back in an easier spot today and might offer a touch of finishing punch in a race where the chasing and pressing types could settle some scores too early.

Fair Grounds - Race #8

#14 Lightline	Forecast looks promising enough for this to stay on the grass, but he's probably a handful in here if this comes over to the main. There are some quality names in his company lines, and he should has some versatility in running style that will give his rider some options if he goes.
#3 Towering Storm	Tactical speed has a couple sneaky good company lines in his short career, and he should be in line for a perfect first-jump trip with this bunch. Lots to like off the encouraging dirt try last out.
#1 American Hope	Like how he finished up to land that local debut last out, and he should be able to save ground from the rail draw while waiting for everything to unfold in front of him.
Race Summary	Lightline gets the edge if this goes on the main, and Towering Storm looks like a player on either footing.

Fair Grounds - Race #9

#1 Deal of Faith	He has had a couple chances with similar, but I don't see a ton of other serious early pace lined up today, and he might be able to see this one out if he can shake off the couple chasing threats into the turn. Strong lean.
#6 Bobby Two Shot's	His baseline effort probably makes him tough while getting in for a tag for the first time, but it's not a great set of signs for him to dropping into the basement today off the layoff after finishing up the track at 4/5 when last seen in April 2024. Could roll these, but you can have him.
#10 Mackay Boy	He's probably a little bit better on the turf than the main, but he hasn't been on the dirt in some time and might turn in something better than he showed at Evangeline last year at the start of his career. Consider, especially if the price drifts.
Race Summary	Deal of Faith can be a handful with some rail pace, and I'm not sure if anyone in here is quick enough to sustain a serious early challenge. Bobby Two Shot's is an obvious player in a bad race, but he's really just bringing a collection of really bad signs with him to this layoff run -- happy to let him beat me on principle.

#1 KITTY HOUSE (5-2)	Keeping quality company, should break through with win in shorter sprint.
#5 BEACHLEY (5-1)	Idle since August maiden romp at Santa Rosa, starts for new connections.
#6 REBEL GAL (4-1)	Ascending speed figures as a 2-year-old, makes her seasonal debut.
Race Summary	KITTY HOUSE ran second to a sharp repeater in allowance company and second to a 2-1 Del Mar shipper in a stakes race since her Turf Paradise arrival. She was much the best when she beat the boys at Century Downs to break her maiden. She gets Lasix and appears ready to graduate today. Bet to win and place.

Turf Paradise - Race #4

#7 FURTHER EVIDENCE (3-1)	Evidence points to another good effort at distance which he conquered.
#4 SOUTH COAST ROUTE (6-1)	Won going away in sprint off Evans claim, met tougher in latest.
#2 TRIPLE PASS (2-1)	Silva acquisition looks to recapture summer form from Del Mar.
Race Summary	FURTHER EVIDENCE, a proven and consistent miler, raced in-hand through the final turn while setting a fast pace when he won here last month. He kept the late-running favorite well safe to notch his first win at age 4. Bet to win and place and play 7-2 and 7-4 exactas.

Turf Paradise - Race #6

#2 CLASSIC RUNNER (4-1)	Poor record, but should work out a good trip at a fair price.
#8 CHIRAG (5-1)	Can be excused for latest, dueled and drew clear in 10-horse field prior.
#4 SIZE LORD (7-2)	Opened long lead and held on to win in a five-horse field at one mile.
Race Summary	The field is a combined 18/2-1-0 at today’s distance. CLASSIC RUNNER was 0-17 last year, but he had a useful local tune-up on the turf and projects a perfect stalking trip in here. He rallied 4-wide on the turn but came up empty in the stretch against a 3-to-5 winner at Remington Park two back. Bet to win and place and play a 2-4-8 exacta box.

SMOKEY MANDATE - With a nice class rating average of 105, has one of the top class advantages in this group. Has to be carefully examined versus this group displaying decent numbers recently and an average Equibase Speed Fig of 97 under similar conditions.

Merton has been hot as a pistol the last 30 days, winning at a great 26 percent. VEL MISS TAYLOR - Deserves a shot given the positive win percent she sports. Not many folks know, but the 1 post here at Monticello Raceway has been stellar for a well above average win percentage. CANNERY ROW - This harness racer looks tough. Look at the 80 average TrackMaster speed fig. Should be considered in this race if only for the really strong speed rating earned in the most recent race.

All signs point to PHOENIX OF FLUZZY for the selection. More than likely the class of the group of animals with an average rating of 90. A nice pick. You have to think about a horse that wins a lot, very attractive win percent. ITALIAN LAD N - Chances are greatly improved for interesting entrants coming from the 4 position at Yonkers Raceway. The 88 average class statistic may give this gelding a distinct advantage in the field of horses. SCRIBBLERS - This gelding getting the win wouldn't be impossible, a chance.
