2^nd race [Md Sp Wt, 7F] – (2) Sandi’s Satire (A) moved to the main track for her second start, battled for the lead, and ended up a neck behind, well ahead of the rest of the field. (3) Shop Lifting ran the best speed figure of her career in December when she finished second which she did in four of her nine starts. (4) Tipple was last seen missing the win by a nose in her second start which was at Saratoga in August. (1) Shirl’s Delight has been off since May and changes back to the barn of Carlos Martin for whom she ran two years ago.

3^rd race [Alw 50000s, 1 1/8 mi] – (6) Backstretch Rose (B) was second at this level in her last two starts including last month when she ran wide throughout the race and rallied from last. (3) Thirteen Red Flags came back from a layoff and has had three top three finishes at this starter allowance level. (2) Looks First won her last two starts in a $20,000 maiden claimer and a $25,000 claimer for Linda Rice but was taken two weeks ago. (1) Soundbite and (1A) Magic Eight Ball each won their most recent start and make an entry for Michelle Nevin.

F] – (2) Narciso Dali (C) was claimed two races back and was bet down from 7-1 to 3-1 when he pressed the pace, finished second behind a horse that came back to win his next start, and comes back from an April layoff. (4) Castle Island cuts back to a sprint after running second going the nine-furlongs at Aqueduct. (3) Augustine Red was third at this level in his last two starts.

7^th race [OC50k/SAL50k, 6F] – (2) Western Wolf gets blinkers on and Lasix for the first time after he hit the rail after the start and got pulled up while trying a NY-bred allowance following a convincing maiden claiming victory. KEY STAT - This horse already beat the morning-line favorite last time out at Parx Racing. Gelding has shown some speed. This shorter distance should be better for him. The recent speed rating of 74 is the best last race figure in the bunch. DATS MY PHARAOH - You probably should disregard that last affair at Laurel in the mud where he finished out of the top three. Should do well right here under normal track conditions.

Vulnerable Contenders: #7 MALIBLUE (ML=2/1), #8 CAROLINA FLAKE (ML=9/2), #1 COOLTRAIN (ML=6/1),

MALIBLUE - If you keep selecting these sort of 'bridesmaid' types, you're going to be disappointed most of the time. PERFECT SHANCES - This filly should run better today now that she's back facing here own gender. Nice return on investment for this rider and trainer twosome. Ward is giving this one Lasix for the 1st time. You have to like that. Another way to assign class is earnings per start. This horse has the uppermost in the field. I think she'll be close at the finish. BLOND JAK - Although I sometimes have doubts about a horse who flopped as the betting favorite in her last race, this filly got a solid speed figure and fits well here. Ortiz rode this horse for the first time in the last race and comes right back in today's contest. The 77 most recent race speed rating looks sound on paper.

Vulnerable Contenders: #5 GARUDA (ML=5/2), #6 SOLIDARIA (ML=8/1), #7 LITTLE TOWN STREET (ML=8/1),

GARUDA - Don't think that this filly has value at 5/2 today. SOLIDARIA - Difficult to play this runner this time around. Make her show you something in a short distance event before you invest in her in a race of 5 furlongs. Run-of-the-mill rating last out at Gulfstream Park at 5 1/2 furlongs. Don't believe this horse will improve too much in today's event. LITTLE TOWN STREET - The event on Dec 27th was versus maiden claimers. Pass on this one in today's event versus the tougher group.

GUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - BLOND JAK - Getting Lasix for the second time. While studying at grad school I did a lot of research on this, and my data proves fillys run much better the 2nd time. Could be worth a bet.
