Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

    February 10, 2025 | By Al Cimaglia

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Yonkers Raceway starts the week with an 11-race card. The $1.00 Pick 5 with a $10,000 guaranteed pool rolls in Race 5. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 8, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 8 (9:05 PM EST)

2-Dontbothermenone N (8/5)-Team Cushing entry lands in a good spot to double up. But steps up and not loving the 8/5 morning line price. That said, deserves respect with this post draw, likes to win at YR and is in sharp form.
7-Mind Hunter (8-1)-Price shot needs to be cranked up off the gate and Austin Siegelman usually leaves, and unless something is wrong that will be the case again. Needs to out-gun the two on the rail. That could happen and is a proven winner against $50k claimers, which in this case is reason enough to use.

    Race 9 (9:25 PM EST)

2-Tickertape Hanover (5-1)-This will be the 4th start off the bench, all versus this kind and hasn’t brought a top try yet. Does good work at Yonkers and did win 11 of 34 last year. Could be overlooked and go off at a better price than the program odds. George Brennan should end up with a nice early seat without burning much gas which could lead to a trip out picture.
3-Rock Diamonds N (9/2)-Joe B will be out and rolling with this veteran who likes to wire fields but faded in the last 2 races. This is the only one in for a tag and should offer a square price. Can be a main player if the 12-year comes with a top try.
6-Layton Hanover (6-1)-Wired the field last week and steps up. This veteran likes to win here, is 11-31 at YR and captured 10 of 32 last year. Not sure if will be able to tackle the leaders down the lane if Matt Kakaley doesn’t get the top. But will respect and not let the Alexander trainee beat me.

    Race 10 (9:45 PM EST)

2-Music Hall (4-1)-Comes off an efficient trip win with Jason Bartlett in the bike. Joe B owns, trains and will steer this time. Faces the same kind and could be in line for a similar trip.
4-I'm The Prince (7/2)-Finished a good 2nd on 1-30 after missing a month. This will be the 2nd start in the Alexander barn and will count on some improvement tonight.

    Race 11 (10:05 PM EST)

2-Real Peace (7/2)-Usually wouldn't use a horse on top that lost the lead in the previous race and then moves up. But this is an odd race and the Engblom trainee has made only 8 starts in 2 years. Should get a trip from Kakaley and be racing with the leaders off the gate.
3-Strengthfromabove (5-1)-Taking a swing the 5-year-old will be ready in the 2nd start since 9-7-24. Meets a field with question marks and does have good gate speed. Jordan Stratton should be no worse than in the pocket after the wings fold.

    $1 Late Pick 4

    2,7/2,3,6/2,4/2,3
    Total Bet=$24

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

      Mahoning Valley - Race #7
#3 Lady Lottie She'll get a class test today while rising off the claim, but she's in really good form and has historically been pretty good here. Might handle this better crew.
#8 Loaded Once More She has a claim on this one right back after handling some of these last out, and she draws well to watch everything unfold from the outside.
#2 Lady Wellington She has a similar look to a few others in here, and she's obviously in the mix with the better ones in here after that last one.
Race Summary Lady Lottie looks interesting enough at what might be a midrange price while stepping up for the new team. Might land the hat trick.
      Mahoning Valley - Race #8
#2 Beautiful Charade Let's see if we can find another competitive riser. This one wasn't totally embarrassed with allowance company in November and was competitive with some special weight crew in the past. Might be an OK fit on the step up.
#1 Kant Elope She caught an easy winner last time out, and she might be able to shake off some early challenges from her inside draw. Obvious threat might drill these.
#3 Foxy's Country Hit She'll try winners for the first time today after an easy graduation run last out, and I think she might be able to find a decent spot tracking the rail runner.
Race Summary Beautiful Charade has a couple decent sprint runs on her page and might not be overmatched while getting in with allowance company today.
      Mahoning Valley - Race #9
#3 Rosetta Forward player stayed on well in the debut run and brings some reasonable upside to this second start today that might help her sustain that move that put her on the lead in the lane last out.
#7 Angel I'm Not Figure one of these two will land it, and this filly was quick enough to race in front of the top choice last out. Guessing they'll be going together today.
#8 Tapit Volume Take a look at her ahead of this one, but I think there is a questionable level of depth in this group, so her fresh face could snag a share from the outside.
Race Summary Rosetta probably won't be much of a price, but I think she's supposed to handle these with that debut run under her belt.

        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Turf Paradise - Race #3
#2 GROOVY HUEY (12-1) In top form, has shown passing gear in field loaded with front-end types.
#8 KING ADROCK (8-1) First or second in 7 of 8 at distance, draws favorable post.
#3 EDDIE CROSSWIRE (10-1) Upgrade needed but has the right turning style at a price.
Race Summary No shortage of speedballs in this 4-1/2F sprint, which point to GROOVY HUEY as a viable longshot at 12-1 on the morning line. He surged late and held off three deep closers to win at 6F last out, earning the top speed figure of his career. He overcame trouble to win in an 11-horse field in the race prior. Bet to win and place and play a Pick 3 with numbers 2, 8/4/ALL.
        Turf Paradise - Race #4
#4 SKY SAILING (2-1) Should be smooth sailing to the winners’ circle with a clean break.
#5 FINNLEY’S KITTEN (4-1 Lost three times by a neck in her last six starts on lawn, completes exacta.
#3 FOREST ACCLAMATION (8-1) Hit board in three straight but gave way to fast pace in latest turf try.
Race Summary The 10 entrants in the main body of this $8,500 claimer are a combined 6-for-86 on turf. SKY SAILING returns to the lawn after a 7-1/2-length romp on the main track at one mile. She tried the turf in the second start of her career last spring at Santa Anita, posing no problem for the MSW-dropping winner and runner-up Pace Lane (2-8, $70k), who won a $40,000 claimer on the grass two starts ago. Bet to win and place and play a 4-3-ALL trifecta.
        Turf Paradise - Race #5
#2 TENFORTHEBIGGUY (9-2) Holds tactical edge over main rivals, adds blinkers, good value play.
#6 EITHERINORINTHEWAY (6-1) Made eye-catching rally but left too much work to do in debut sprint.
#8 TENNYSON WAY (5-2) Twice beaten and troubled fave, returns from year layoff as a gelding.
Race Summary TENFORTHEBIGGUY chased the winner and tired to finish fourth in his first long sprint attempt. He can make maximum use of his speed in this spot with blinkers on for the first time. Bet to win and place and play a 2/6,8/ALL trifecta.
