Mahoning Valley - Race #1

#1 Gamboling Ghost	He faded to the back in his run last time out, but that was his first start off a break and could set him up for something better this time around. In the mix throughout from the fence?
#3 Thoughtthatcounts	He's not too far removed from some races that would handle these easily, but he'll need to wake up after a string of modest runs with better. Your call.
#4 Main Line Cipher	He was competitive in that two-back start here, and he punched an easy score at Charles Town since then. Guessing the form holds up again today.
Race Summary	Gamboling Ghost should be able to stick around a bit better in his second start back, and he's got some versatile pace from the inside while being quick enough to stay in the frame early.

Mahoning Valley - Race #3

#6 Great Revelation	He has shown just enough positional pace going short to think that he might be able to find a pretty good spot near the top against a pretty paceless group.
#8 Playing the Angles	He woke up a bit in that first route run at Mountaineer last out, but he was 50 cents on the dollar that day and might take a little bit of cash again here. Forward player may not be meeting a ton of other pace -- dangerous.
#4 Call Me Cassius	He has shown a little finishing ability in some of his races, but I worry about him coming along too late with this group based on the race shape as he cuts back from an 11-furlong try last out.
Race Summary	Great Revelation tries a route with a bit of tactical sprint pace, and that probably leaves him in a great spot against a modest group without a whole lot of early burn.

Mahoning Valley - Race #7

#3 Starcourt	Riser took her time graduating, but she did what she was supposed to do when returning a $2.10 win price here last month, and I think she's competitive right back with this group at a better number today.
#7 Mardene	Thought quite a bit about having her on top in this one, as I think she's going to be a bit more tactical today than she was in that last one. Otherwise, she's at risk of another belated rally.
#4 Goldeneye Magic	She can stay on better than she did last time out, but I worry that she's going to take some cash again today after coming up short at even money in that last one. Tough call, but I think you can have her.
Race Summary	Starcourt gets a tougher test while rising for winners today, but she handled the local footing just fine in that score last out and might get the right kind of trip to press the pace and pounce.

#3 MAXIMATCH (4-1)	Earned big numbers in defeat in pair of recent turf allowance routes.
Race Summary	GRAN YACO, a steady check-getter through his maiden victory in $40,000 claimer going a route of ground, had a useful comeback on the Tampa main track off a seven-month layoff. He set the pace for a half mile at 7F, steadied and faded out of the money. He missed in two photo finishes on the Tampa lawn in MSW company a year ago. Bet to win and place and play a 1-3-8 exacta box.

CANTAFIO - You'll be making money right and left by turning your racing money onto this jockey/conditioner combination. Faced tougher last time around the track at Tampa Bay Downs. Based on class ratings, this is a weaker field, so I will put this one on my list of choice plays. Aboard this horse on February 1st and Gil is back again in the irons in today's contest. RAN THE RED - I look for a solid chance of improvement in today's race with the addition of Lasix for the 2nd time.

Vulnerable Contenders: #9 LUCKY FLAY (ML=3/1), #7 WINNING SHOT (ML=5/1), #8 SLEW CROWN (ML=5/1),

LUCKY FLAY - In the last affair this racer finished seventh. Doesn't look promising for her chances this time around. WINNING SHOT - This filly hasn't had any recent favorable outcomes in short distance affairs. I find it hard to wager on her in this event. I'd like to see more hospitable recent outings with morning line of 5/1. SLEW CROWN - This equine didn't show any pace in the last race. Now she is trying a sprint. Tough chance at the shorter distance. Should have at least finished in the money in the last two months in a short distance affair to be worth it at minimal odds in a sprint.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - CANTAFIO - I love to bet sprinters on the quick comeback. Delgado wants to take advantage right away. Let's score some cash along with the conditioner.

I've got to go with JEN'S BATTLE. With a respectable 73 Equibase Speed Figure last time out, will unquestionably be a factor in this race. Is difficult not to consider based on Equibase Speed Figures which have been decent - 62 avg - of late. Have to sense that this one will run well following the quick major improvement. I FEEL THE NEED - Have to look at solely on class, with some of the most favorable class numbers of this group. With a formidable 66 average speed fig at the distance, seems well suited for today's race. BIG JAVA - Must be given a shot here on the basis of the figs in the speed section alone. Is a very strong contender based on figs posted lately under today's conditions.

ALL THE LUCK - This animal is at the top in earnings per start. He looks nice in today's affair. Sneaky speed on this one. He'll probably be stalking thoroughbreds on the back side, then demolish them down the stretch. A solid handicapping angle is first time Lasix. Foley gives it to this one for this race. RIDE OF A LIFETIME - Cedillo and Davis partnered with one another are a horse gambler's friend. The 'x-factor' at work here is that this colt has been working over this track getting ready for his first start. Davis adds Lasix to this one today. I'd look for a significant improvement.

SPINBACK - This colt hasn't had any recent accomplishments in sprint contests. No picnic to play him in this event. TARTARIAN - No good fortune for this questionable contender in a sprint contest over the last couple of months tells me that this gelding is in a tough spot MY KING AIR - Today's race is 6 1/2 furlongs. Hasn't hit the board in a sprint race in the last 60 days. Not the best of indicators. A bit of a less than stellar try when this colt finished seventh. Notched a mediocre fig last time out in a Maiden Special race on December 19th. Not probable to see an improved performance off of that rating.

SWEET ILLOUSION positively looks the race horse to beat in this race. Might be there at a decent price tag. Definitely one to keep in your exotics. Many race players know speed is is such an important factor. This contender has credentials with a 78 avg statistic. More than likely the class of the grouping with an average rating of 80. A nice choice. BETTORTHANAMILLION - Has formidable TrackMaster speed figs and most definitely has to be thought of for a wager for this one. Has a substantial shot today, if she can repeat her back class. TURA UP - Tough to pass on this mare with cagey Noble in the sulky. Major player for the top prize. This nice horse is sent out by the trainer for today's competition with first time Lasix.
