    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

    Fair Grounds - Race #4
#8 Custom's Cleared That was a solid first spin on the turf last out, and he's got some positional pace to keep him in a good spot from the start. Seems dangerous.
#10 Jayne's Rockstar Get a look at him on the tote and track ahead of this one, but I wonder if he might be a fresh face for a piece of this at a big number. Some interest on paper.
#6 Anacreon The Delta debut was sharp enough to think it might transfer against this turf crew, and he's another who has some tactical pace to stay in the frame early on.
Race Summary Custom's Cleared can be tough with something like that last one, and I'd also consider the cutback player #4 Star Star Star on the deeper tickets.
    Fair Grounds - Race #5
#7 My Southern Girl Forward player ran well with similar last time out and should be in a good spot right near the top throughout this one -- not meeting a whole lot of other pace.
#3 Shehasanattitude She was no real threat but still outran her 64/1 price last time out, and I could see her finding a decent spot close to the top with this group.
#5 Hide the Bride She took a little cash before that flat debut run, but she has some upside today with a cleaner break and that race under her belt.
Race Summary My Southern Girl and Shehasanattitude might get the run of the race near the top here, and something like 'Girl's last would probably do the trick.
    Fair Grounds - Race #8
#6 Twirling Dixie Blinkers go on after the improved effort last month, and there's nothing wrong with getting Ortiz to sign on today. One of the ones.
#11 Black Dog Wouldn't want to get beat by this one with solid recent form, and she's fast enough to find a trip from the outside into the first turn.
#12 Massarat She moved forward on the turf last out and is another with a chance in here from a high draw. Wide trip could be in store, but she might find an OK spying spot.
Race Summary Fun race, but I think Twirling Dixie can be a handful here at a modest price. She won't need to move forward a whole lot with blinkers to land this after the useful effort last out.

      Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

      Penn National - Race #2
#5 ENGLISH DADDY (7-2) Projects similar trip to maiden win off similar rest, changes riders.
#3 BRIGHT CHARGER (3-1) Got Lasix again, upstaged in-the-money performances with 17-length win.
#6 ISLAND DREAM GIRL (6-1) Claimed out of debut romp as for top Maryland barn, takes on the boys.
Race Summary ENGLISH DADDY sat a good trip off a duel when he broke his maiden two starts back, then joined the ‘embattled leaders’ before the closers got the money in his repeat attempt. He gets pace to run at in this spot and offers good value for a win and place bet. Also play 5-3, 5-6 and 3-5 exactas.
      Penn National - Race #3
#3 MAGNIFICENT RIDE (7-2) Slow starts in last pair, one to beat off prior running lines.
#6 ECLIPTICALS BEAR (5-1) Rallied inside to duel with even-money winner to the wire.
#9 WARRIOR’S PAYOFF (3-1 Has speed, gets class relief, looks to snap 0-6 PN record.
Race Summary MAGNIFICENT RIDE drops below his claim level but probably waited on this spot, nonetheless. He is eligible by three days for this spot as he looks to surpass $100,000 in 6F earnings. Bet to win and place and play 3-6 and 3-9 exactas.
      Penn National - Race #4
#6 TANKSTER (9-2) Duplicate of 5F sprint two starts back at this level translates well in here.
#4 ROWDY WARRIOR (6-1) Drops, gets makeover, barn checks all the boxes with these types.
#1 I’MANISLANDBOY (3-1) Dueled long way in route two back, then fired blank in MSW ranks on dirt.
Race Summary TANKSTER ‘loomed boldly’ at the quarter pole when he ran second to the odds-on winner in a four-horse field two back. But he earned a competitive speed figure for this spot and could hold a tactical edge over his main rivals in a field that lacks speed. Bet to win and place and play a 1-4-6 exacta box.

            # 2 KARIANNA 7/2
I like NEW BABY here. This filly has some longshot handicapping angles I like to play. Is tough not to consider given the company run in lately. Should come out very solid - I have liked the way this filly has moved quickly to the lead recently. MY PRETTY GIRL - Win percentage with this jock and handler combo - 15 percent - solid. Looks very good versus this group of horses and will probably be one of the leaders.

              Gulfstream Park - Race #2 - Post: 1:22pm - Maiden Claiming - 8.5 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $37,000 Class Rating: 84

              Rating:

              #9 WHEELHOUSE (ML=4/1)
              #3 DAZZLE A. P. (ML=8/1)

WHEELHOUSE - If you review the PP's for this mount, you'll see he has recorded the top speed rating at the distance and surface. A repeat performance right here and this horse has a superb chance to win. Saez comes to get aboard after getting to know the colt in the last contest. I like horses that return to a similar class level after dropping at least five class points like this one did in the last race. I believe he'll be competitive at this level. DAZZLE A. P. - The addition of blinks usually means that a trainer wants a thoroughbred to show more early speed or to keep his attention focused.

              Vulnerable Contenders: #5 ESCONDIDO (ML=7/2), #8 YANKEE DRUMMER (ML=9/2), #4 TREE C'S KAI (ML=6/1),

ESCONDIDO - 7/2 is too short of a price to take on most any horse that has run poorly in back to back outings. This gelding recorded a speed rating in his last event which likely isn't good enough in today's race. YANKEE DRUMMER - This thoroughbred hasn't shown much life in the last pair of affairs. TREE C'S KAI - Last performed on January 17th at Gulfstream Park, finishing tenth. Unlikely to move up off of that performance in today's race.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Bet on #9 WHEELHOUSE to win if we can get at least 7/5 odds

Mahoning Valley Race Course - Race #1 - Post: 12:15pm - Maiden Special - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $31,800 Class Rating: 61

                Rating:

                #2 A VAN ON THE RUN (ML=5/1)
                #6 KICKSTART (ML=3/1)

A VAN ON THE RUN - When Nunez and Huffman combine forces on horses the ROI has been fabulous at +207. Ran last time around the track against a tougher field at Mahoning Valley Race Cour. The move to a lower level should suit him well. This gelding earned a strong speed rating of 61 in his last race. That speed fig should be lofty enough to score this time around. KICKSTART - When this jockey and trainer join forces you have to take a look. Salazarbecerra and Gorham have been terrific together. This horse collects a lot of dough per start. At the top in this event. I know the outfit is serious today. The gelding gets Lasix for the 1st time.

                Vulnerable Contenders: #1 DOCS LEGEND (ML=2/1), #7 JUDY'S COMET (ML=5/2), #5 DR. JOBO'S DAY (ML=8/1),

DOCS LEGEND - This runner hasn't been on the track since Feb 3rd. Not even any morning drills. JUDY'S COMET - Mediocre speed rating in the last race at Mahoning Valley Race Cour at 6 furlongs. Don't believe this pony will improve too much in today's event. DR. JOBO'S DAY - Looked like he may have had some physical problems when he ran on February 13th. This questionable contender ran a run-of-the-mill speed fig in the last race. He shouldn't show signs of improvement and will likely lose in today's event running that number.

GUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - A VAN ON THE RUN - Finished a disappointing fifth at Mahoning Valley Race Cour on Jan 16th. But that was on a track listed as good. Expect much better in today's event.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Play #2 A VAN ON THE RUN to win if you can get odds of 6/5 or more

My choice in this event is THREE MARTINIS. Appears to be the type to be helped with second time Lasix here. Lately Juarez has been hot which may give the edge to this gelding. This gelding gets a boost with Juarez in the saddle. GIMME MONEY - With a decent 58 speed figure last time out, will clearly be a factor in this affair. HARRYS CHANCE - Is hard not to examine given the company run in as of late.

Hard not to strongly consider DOROTHY'S LEGACY as the top selection in here. Feel the need for speed, this race horse has been turning in some terrific TrackMaster SRs averaging around 76. Most definitely the class of the race with an average rating of 77. A nice pick. Could be considered for this one if only for the competitive TrackMaster Speed Rating recorded in the last competition. SUMMER LOVIN - Has formidable TrackMaster speed figs and clearly has to be thought of for a wager here. GD COOL OTOOLE - Overall figures appear great. Can't throw out at this point.

                        # 4 FOXMAN 3/1
                        # 2 HYPNOTICDREAM 7/2
After thorough analysis by the consortium, MODERN ROCK comes out as the top selection. Performing soundly, recorded a sharp TrackMaster SR in his most recent race (77). Talk about a dynamic duo, Dibenedetto and Doherty have some of the best driver/conditioner figures at the track. With a 25pct return on investment, this driver/conditioner has produced really good returns within the recent past for investors. FOXMAN - He has been racing solidly and the TrackMaster SRs are among the most respectable in the pack. Has a formidable shot this time, if he can perform to his back racing class. HYPNOTICDREAM - Post 2 has been winning at a much better than average clip, suggesting great probability of success for this one. The 77 average class rating may give this gelding a distinct edge in the field of starters.
