Northfield Park has a 15-race card. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 11. The sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool with a low 14% takeout, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 11 (9:40 PM EST)

3-Queen's Castle (9-1)-Has been a winner against similar when starting from the inside. This will be a test but should be a large number. Chris Lems can work an efficient trip with this post draw.
4-Dry Creek Princess (9/2)-Was in against this kind two races back and finished 3rd. That start came from post 4, the one big difference now is there is a ++ driver change with Aaron Merriman at the controls. Won 4 back at this level and tonight's pilot was steering.
5-Magical Mistress (5/2)-Posted a win versus the $22,500 claimers 2 back and then was stuck with post 7 last week. Should get a better trip with this post draw and that makes the Kreiser trainee a main threat.

Race 12 (10:02 PM EST)

1-Adventureful Pete (5/2)-Comes off a break and lost all chance in last. But usual pilot Cory Kreiser was not driving that night, but he is this time. Fits and should be racing at the top of the stack throughout.
5-Tristar Carmen (2-1)-Comes off a judges scratch and should be a player if ready to go. Gets a positive driver change in Ronnie Wrenn. There are question marks, will be a short price and will still respect chances.

Race 13 (10:24 PM EST)

6-Be My Rose N (2-1)-The veteran was handled conservatively in the last 2 races which came after a judges scratch. Has been starting slowly and will look for the opposite here. Can get the top, and she could be tough to tackle.
9-A Delighful Act N (3-1)-This mare likes to race on the engine and could get a close-up seat off the gate following the rail horse. The post helps the price, and Merriman will look to get on the point sooner than later.

Race 14 (10:46 PM EST)

3-Blazin Flower (4-1)-Fits at this level, should offer a square price and has been trying hard. The key will be the trip, and if Tyler Angus can work a smooth journey, it could be picture time. but will use against a field without a standout.
7-Windy Cindy (3-1)-Stepped up to this level and raced well to finish 2nd. Merriman returns for a 2nd straight drive and could grind it out if doesn't blast out. Might be bet down and is only 2-26 at Nfld, but will use in a race without a standout.

Fair Grounds - Race #9

#10 Precious Money	She earned the step up with another solid score while trying claiming company last out, and she might have a midrange price chance to come along late and land this.
#12 Bet Towinit	She should be in the frame the whole way while prompting from the outside, but she could get a wide run of things that could leave her vulnerable to getting picked up late.
#7 C C Short Drive	She graduated nicely when getting in with friends last out, and her career debut in stakes company wasn't all bad here in December. Could see it from midpack.
Race Summary	Precious Money has shown some ability to get past horses, which not too many of these have done. Think she's worth a look at a decent enough number on the rise.

Fair Grounds - Race #7

#8 This is Your Time	Only brief tracking pace from him in the debut, but he gets another good outside draw for this follow-up start and might stick around much better at a price.
#1 Darioush	Fresh face makes some sense in a race without much standout form, but the quick works on the page are likely to attract attention that will be reflected in the price.
#3 Flame Rock Fire	He and #5 Chases Magic both have two-back running lines on their respective pages that fit if they can get back to them, but this guy should be the better number between the bounce-back candidates.
Race Summary	This is Your Time might be able to force the issue a bit from the outside, and I'm expecting something better from him this time around after a flat kind of debut in a race I liked a little bit.

Fair Grounds - Race #8

#2 Play With Fire	She was a winner in that early season run here in one of the criss-crossing running lines on these pages, and I think the move back to the turf will work in her favor -- can't blame them for taking a shot with her on the main track in January of her 3-year-old season.
#4 Aterradora	She has been in the mix with a couple of these in past races and punched a big graduation score last time out, and she seems like one of the obvious ones in a competitive group. Wouldn't argue too hard with you.
#5 Merry and Bright	She tried a stakes spot at Saratoga that often produces some nice types, so that wasn't a terrible effort when splitting the field that day, and she might be ready to kick off her sophomore campaign with a solid showing today.
Race Summary	Play With Fire was sharp on the turf in that November score here, and she probably gets back to her best game today while returning to that turf route.

Race Summary	DUBLIN’S KNIGHT raced 3-wide most of the way, out-kicked six other first-time starters, but couldn’t reach the 8-1 pace setter in a promising debut. He figures tough at the same distance after that well-bet effort. Bet to win and place and play a 2-6-9-10 exacta box.

Gulfstream Park - Race #4

#6 LOOKIN FOR ROSES (3-1)	Strong stretch surge to win off 2-year layoff, stayed strong on gallop out.
#3 CRYPTO MAN (5-1)	Has speed but has been beaten favorite in 5 of 9 starts in the past year.
#2 FIRST SHOT FIRED (6-1)	Upstaged several runner-up finishes with 3-wide rally in 12-horse field.
Race Summary	LOOKIN FOR ROSES advanced between runners on the turn, sustained a 4-wide stretch rally and widened on the gallop out in his maiden win at this distance. If he runs the same race in his second start off a 2-year layoff, he should be back in the winners’ circle. Bet to win and place and play 5-2 and 5-3 exactas.

1^st race [Clm 10000, 1 1/8 mi] – (5) Ice Road was a winner last month in a $16,000 claimer with a late rally and shows five top three finishes from six starts. (2) Bad Larry was second in a $15,000 race in January and then tried to step up to tougher company twice. (6) Commandperformance was second at today’s level when he cut back in distance and dropped down in class. (7) Retail Man has several past races that make him a contender in this spot for a low profile trainer who has two recent wins at Aqueduct.

2^nd race [Clm 25000, 6F] – (2) Roshiell My Belle will drop drastically to a claimer for the first time after winning her debut at Churchill Downs in June and went on to try two turf stakes and an allowance. She makes her first start in 2025 with first-time Lasix. (6) Brooklyn Rhapsody was a winner for a $25,000 tag at Parx in January. (1) Lookin to Rock and (1A) Selectively Sweet make an Amira Chichakly entry with past races that make them contenders. (7) Wildcat Annie broke her maiden in her last start against NY-breds.

4^th race [NY, Maddie May, 1 mi] – (3) Storm Changer (A) had the lead, lost a shoe at the half-mile pole, and got caught approaching the wire. (4) Bernieandtherose won her last three starts against state-breds including the East View last month. (7) Lottie Margaret won her last two starts in NY-bred company with a pair of 10-length victories moving from a maiden to an allowance. (6) Army Gal is undefeated in two starts this year with her maiden and an allowance.

6^th race [NY, Md 30000, 1 mi] – (9) Fines Creek (C) was bet down from 8-1 to 5-1, broke a step slow, and finished second. (3) Damage moves back to NY-bred racing after a pair of starts against open-company for a $20,000 tag which includes a career-best third last month. (2) Stimuli debuted as the 2-1 favorite for a $25,000 tag, pressed the pace, and finished third. (8) Play the Gray has a series of speed figures at Parx and Aqueduct that make him fit in this field.

Race 10 at Oaklawn | Saturday, March 8 | Post Time 6:25 PM Eastern

Azeri Stakes – Grade 2 | Purse $400,000 | Fillies and Mares, Four Year Olds and Upward | One Mile and One Sixteenth

Analysis and top contenders:

Don’t get me wrong – I am a huge fan of Thorpedo Anna (1), the 2024 Horse of the Year and the embodiment of a Thoroughbred racehorse. I am so pleased she is continuing to race at the age of four and there is little doubt if she returns from four months off and runs as she did in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff when last seen on November 2, she can win. That being said, she is returning from four months off, and even though she won the Fantasy Stakes here at Oaklawn at the end of March last year and following four months off, this is the beginning of her four year old campaign and there may not be the huge incentive for her to be 100% fit and ready to win as there was last year when the Kentucky Oaks was just five weeks from the Fantasy. Just the same, she gets the rail and has tremendous tactical speed, so could easily be on the lead, or just off the pace early, and she is the most probable to win on paper. On the other hand, she opens as the 2 to 5 favorite and will likely be even lower odds near post time.

The horse with a shot to win and post the upset, or at least complete the exacta, is Jody’s Pride (3), who also is four years old BUT who has had a start this year. That race was the Inside Information Stakes at seven furlongs on January 25, her first start following nearly three months off. She stalked the pacesetter from fourth for the opening half mile then made the lead, before battling gamely neck and neck to the wire, beaten a neck and a nose in the photo. That effort earned her a 103 Equibase Speed Figure, nowhere near the 111 figures Thorpedo Anna earned winning the Breeders’ Cup Distaff or when beaten a nose by Fierceness in the Travers Stakes. However, that figure is HIGHER than the 102 Thorpedo Anna earned in her comeback race last year in the Fantasy, or when winning the Cotillion after the Travers. What’s more, the ONLY time Jody’s Pride stretched out from a sprint to a route previously, as she’s doing in this race, was when she missed by a neck in the 2023 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. She improved markedly from the sprint prior to that, and she should absolutely improve markedly stretching out and making her second start off a layoff today.

Race 9 at Santa Anita | Saturday, March 8 | Post Time 7:15 PM Eastern

San Simeon Stakes – Grade 3 | Purse $100,000 | Four Year Olds and Upward | Six and One Half Furlongs on Turf

Analysis:

Anarchist (6) comes under the radar a bit, opening at six to one odds, and with a 3-7-1 overall record in 16 races those odds are likely to stay at that level. Of those 16 races, ONLY ONE previously was on turf, and that was in the 2023 San Simeon, where Anarchist rallied for second at 11 to 1 odds. Since then, the horse has won or placed in five of nine races, including winning the higher-level Grade 2 Pat O’Brien Stakes on dirt in the summer of 2023. His 2024 campaign wasn’t nearly as good as 2023, as he finished sixth, fifth and third, and his effort in his 2025 comeback three weeks ago appears poor on paper where he ran fifth and last around the track in the Palos Verdes Stakes on dirt. However, trainer Doug O’Neill is no fool and the reason he’s entered Anarchist in this race as the last was just a prep after six months off, and he knows the horse will like the turf. The jockey change to Vasquez is telling as well, as Vasquez rode Anarchist to two close seconds in graded stakes as well as the win in the Pat O’Brien. Coming into the race, Anarchist put in a spectacular five-furlong workout (58.6) which was the best of 68 on the day, and in a pretty wide open race he can post the mild upset as he’s as good as any of the main contenders which all open at lower odds.

Mucho Del Oro (8) opens as the 9 to 5 favorite, having won the similar Daytona Stakes last May as well as last year’s San Simeon. He was off for eight months after that and finished sixth of 12 in the Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint Stakes last month. He’s also trained by O’Neill, and he’s reunited with Juan Hernandez, up for victory in this race last year. Mucho Del Oro can blast to the front from the start where he likes to be and could be tough to catch, with stablemate Anarchist having a closing style, so they could easily complete the exacta.

Sorrento Sky (3) has won three of his last four races and finished second in the other. That was the Stormy Liberal Stakes at the shorter distance of five furlongs. He won his last try at this six and one-half furlong trip just before that, and he won his most recent start three weeks ago at five furlongs on grass so he could run even better second off the layoff.

For second on some exacta tickets and for third on trifecta tickets we can include Air Force Red (4) and Lovesick Blues (7). Air Force Red closed well for second in the Eddie D Stakes last September although he did not run as well in December when seventh in the Joe Hernandez Stakes. Lovesick Blues finished second in two straight races at this trip last March and April and returns fresh from a seven-month layoff, also possessing a closing style to get into the money in the late stages.

Bets:

Win: Anarchist (6) should be considered for a win bet at 5 to 2 odds or more.

Mucho Del Oro (8) and Sorrento Sky (3) also have fair odds of 5 to 2, but considering they start at odds of 9 to 5 and 5 to 2 respectively, they don’t offer the same return as a win bet on Anarchist.
