    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

    Fair Grounds - Race #4
#2 Interlude This feels like a really good race for the level, but I still think this guy should hammer these. He drops while getting back to the main track, and something like the two-back run should absolutely do the trick.
#4 Amentum Not totally sold that he wants to stay going long, but he goes for the new team after a useful try sprinting at this level last out. He's a main danger.
#5 Puckster He hasn't been a serious threat in recent starts, but he has plugged away for underneath shares, and he could be in line for another similar kind of run today. Think he's a reach on top but fits for a piece.
Race Summary Interlude drops off the dull run, and it's not typically a huge red flag for me at this point in the season. His baseline effort makes him the right one today.
    Fair Grounds - Race #6
#9 Reach He showed a little tracking pace before fading late last out, but he had some pretty reliable finishing form prior to that, so he's got a little versatility that might let his rider pick a spot. Lots to like while hoping for a bounce back.
#10 Coffee Talk He was flat at 2/1 in the debut here last month, but he has some upside for a top team, and he might get an OK spying kind of run from out here. I don't know...
#2 Kalahari Dreams His dirt form is honest, and he ran well going long at Churchill last year. Looks like one of the ones in what feels like a fun race.
Race Summary Reach is capable of something better today after the dud last out, and I'm hoping he'll find a great spot tracking the splits and get the jump on the other threats.
    Fair Grounds - Race #7
#4 Higginsville He graduated with a nice run last time out, and I'm hoping his reliable form will keep him in the frame on the rise again with these. Price might be decent enough.
#7 Storm Ready This is a really reasonable spot to come back to try winners after getting over the top last out, and I wouldn't argue too hard with anyone landing here in hopes that he's close to a free space.
#2 Quaternion Dropper comes back off the break with some past form that looks compelling -- if he's able to bring it off the layoff at this point in time. This might be the right kind of placement for him at this point in time.
Race Summary Higginsville steps up to face winners today after a graduation score that was much less flashy than the one Storm Ready turned in, but he's going to offer a better number on the board here, too.

      Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

Tampa Bay Downs - Race #1
#6 MISTY GALE (10-1) Viable longshot in bad field in her second start this year.
#5 QUEEN OF CHILL (15-1) Has speed, been facing better, picks up 9 pounds on rider change.
#7 RITABOOK (2-1) Drops below claim level, good record and $70k in earnings at Tampa.
Race Summary MISTY GALE, no threat chasing fast middle fractions for a higher claiming price, ran well enough in her prior start for a tag at Finger Lakes to factor in here. She raced in-hand to the top of the stretch, led briefly going a route of ground and finished second by a head. Bet to win and place and play 5-5 and 6-5 daily doubles.
Tampa Bay Downs - Race #2
#5 REPAYNT (2-1) Wide trip took its toll in improved seasonal debut with Lasix, gets new pilot.
#8 MIA’S ANGEL (6-1) Can be excused for latest, broke maiden going away in prior route.
#3 WONDERFULVENEZUELA (5-2) Hit board in 5 of last 6 route races on various surfaces.
Race Summary REPAYNT backed off the pace under a snug hold, swung 7-wide and drifted wider in the stretch and finished third behind the pace-controlling favorite. She gets class relief, gets second-time Lasix and gets the call for a win and place bet. Also play 5-3 and 5-8 exactas.
Tampa Bay Downs - Race #6
#7 OLD TOWN ROAD (9-2) Seeks three in a row, can returns quick claim dividend in current form.
#4 AUGER (5-1) Strong start to 2025 for new barn would be better without recurring trouble lines.
#1 COURT AND SPARK (5-2) Ran second for $10k, moves inside, always draws betting attention.
Race Summary OLD TOWN ROAD rallied past the dueling and drew clear ‘under urging’ to a repeat victory. He steps up off the claim but remains in top form as he seeks his first win at 6-1/2F. Bet to win and place and play a 4,7/1, 4, 7/ALL trifecta.

        # 6 KISSES FOR COOPER 6/1
        # 7 LUCKY GEM 6/1
        # 2 CLEARLY BELLA 6/1
KISSES FOR COOPER is my choice. LUCKY GEM - Has competitive front-end speed and should fare admirably versus this group of animals. This filly has to be given a shot just off the earnings per start in dirt route events alone. CLEARLY BELLA - Has performed admirably recently in route races, posting a nifty 52 avg Equibase Speed Figure.

Tampa Bay Downs - Race #3 - Post: 1:33pm - Optional Claiming - 7.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $54,500 Class Rating: 97

            Rating:

            #3 CHROME GHOST (ML=2/1)

CHROME GHOST - The jockey and handler combination have a lucrative return on investment when they work together. This gelding notched a nice speed figure of 97 in his last affair. That figure should be strong enough to win this time out. Recent speed figures show solid pattern of improvement.

            Vulnerable Contenders: #6 DREAMING OF KONA (ML=5/2), #7 KHOZEIRESS (ML=4/1), #5 GOING UP (ML=6/1),

DREAMING OF KONA - Hasn't finished in the money in any short distance contests lately. Not likely to see him doing it in today's event either. KHOZEIRESS - Had to give me much more than that last out. Never made much of an impact. GOING UP - Hard to bet on a runner that lays up for a long time then doesn't end up on the board off the long vacation.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: #3 CHROME GHOST to win at post-time odds of 1/1 or better

              # 8 ITS SATISFACTUAL 9/2
I've got to go with BUDDHIST PRODIGY. Her 75 average has this filly with among the most favorable Equibase Speed Figures for this race. Ran a strong last race. Looks quite good for the conditions of this competition today, showing solid figs in turf route races recently. LA SCALONETA - Is a key contender - given the 72 speed rating from her most recent race. With a formidable 73 average Equibase Speed Fig at the distance, seems well suited for today's race. ITS SATISFACTUAL - Earnings per start in turf route races is reliable for this animal.

                  #6 KISSES FOR COOPER (ML=6/1)
                  #5 PERFECT DEAL (ML=9/2)

KISSES FOR COOPER - This horse coming off a good contest in the last month is a solid contender in my book. PERFECT DEAL - Landry brings her right back. I suggest you stick with this live filly.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #8 EVE OF EVE (ML=3/1), #3 INSTASPEED (ML=4/1), #7 LUCKY GEM (ML=6/1),

INSTASPEED - 4/1 is too short of a price to take on most any animal that has run poorly in back to back races. LUCKY GEM - 6/1 is too low of a reward to take on most any thoroughbred that has run poorly in back to back races around the track.

The selection in this contest is SWEET N FAST N. With a really strong 75 speed rating last time out, will unquestionably be a factor in this competition. Many bettors give the nod to this gelding on the driver-handler rankings alone. Gelding and driver go together like spaghetti and meatballs. They finish in the money 80 percent of their races. FRANCO TRISTAN N - The panel of smart guys will always toss in a fine animal from the 1 slot here at Monticello Raceway, keep in mind for your exotics. Has been running soundly lately and his style of running should result in a huge performance. SARAH'S LILLY - Should be given a look based on the respectable speed figure achieved in the most recent outing. Competitive driver/trainer, winning 19 percent of the time. Is tough to overlook as a tremendous wager.

                          # 1 DAYSON 7/2
                          # 10 PIONEER AS 4/1
                          # 5 DIRTY MONEY 2/1
The consensus this time is that DAYSON is the one to beat. Can't miss the connections here, a 25 winning pct, one of the most solid at getting into the winners circle. Deserves a shot given the positive win statistic he sports. PIONEER AS - This solid standardbred has shown us some ability in the past, just look at the 93 avg class rating. Should play well today. With a good 91 speed fig last time out, will definitely be a factor in this contest. DIRTY MONEY - Top players love to play the driver of this gelding - great win percentage lately. He has been running competitively and the speed ratings are among the strongest in the field.
