Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

    March 17, 2025 | By Al Cimaglia

Yonkers Raceway has an 11-race card. The $1.00 Pick 5 rolls in Race 5, and it has a $10,000 guaranteed pool. The $2.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 8, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 8 (9:05 PM EDT)

1-Binge on Yankee (3-1)-The Gillis pupil has been sharp this year despite not drawing the rail until now. Left from post 5 and didn’t look back in last and now steps up. May get the point again but if not should be in the pocket and that could work for a picture as well at a fair price.
2-Verdun (9/2)-Now drops, and Pat Lachance hasn’t been able to work the right trip against Invites in the 3 starts off the bench. This is not an easy field but should fit better. Draws the 2 hole, should land in one of the top 2 spots off the gate tonight and could finally be the best down the lane.

    Race 9 (9:25 PM EDT)

2-Rhyds Superfly GB (6/5)-The Shane Tritton import is seeking its 6th straight. Hasn’t lost since landing at Yonkers and has made it look easy. This group could be more of a challenge but will still single. With a fair trip this should be win # 7 in 2025, and will probably be on the lead throughout.

    Race 10 (9:45 PM DT)

5-Twiggs Pub (2-1)-Didn't really have an excuse on 3-10, got the top leaving from the rail but missed by a head, and has been off since. Jason Bartlett steers again, and if ready to go should have an easier time of getting on the engine.
6-Caughtinalandslide (6-1)-Has hit the board in 6 of 7 this year and this race could set up for someone coming off cover. Austin Siegelman should be stalking close to the leaders and could finish best of all.

    Race 11 (10:05 PM DT)

3-Rockin Jukebox (8-1)-Joe B entry makes the 4th start off the bench and could be ready to show some early speed this time. Could see Siegelman leaving and getting a pocket ride and at this price is worth a swing.
4-Always A Thrill (2-1)-Shipped in from PcD riding a 2-race win streak and then won its 1st start at Yonkers by over 6 lengths. Steps up again, will respect chances of winning again but will also include others with more value.
5-Dunkin (5-1)-Came off the bench and raced well in all 3 starts and finished 2nd each time. There is speed inside but should get away with a decent seat. Could be overlooked and does good work at Yonkers (27-6-7-4). Could pop at a solid price if George Brennan provides a sharp drive,

    $2.00 Late Pick 4

    1,2/2/5,6/3,4,5
    Total Bet=$24

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

      Mahoning Valley - Race #3
#5 Dame Straight Not super enthused about her overall form, but she owns a little bit of prompting pace and has always been in with better groups than she's going to find here. Could wake up.
#4 Athena's Ghost She was a good fit when trying this level for the first time, and she's another who should find a decent spot in the forward flight.
#2 Uaintright Her local debut was pretty solid, but I could see her getting bet a bit too much in this spot, and I'm not sure she's a total standout. One of the ones.
Race Summary Dame Straight has never turned in a good race, but she has at least been flashing a little bit of speed with better, and maybe that'll translate to something competitive with this crew.
      Mahoning Valley - Race #7
#4 Loaded Once More She's an honest finisher in a race with plenty of potential pace lined up, and she should get a good run of things to finish into the splits today. The right one with a solid race shape waiting for her.
#6 Silent Rule I think she's the one to beat with good pace from the outside that will either put her on the engine or on the attack, but I just think the front end is a tough place to be if this race stays together.
#1 Pudd'n N Pie She might be able to tuck in behind the pace and find a good spot while waiting to sneak through or tip out, but I just think a couple of these have higher ceilings. Needs a misfire or two to score?
Race Summary Loaded Once More should get a good setup today in a spot with some pretty formidable front-end players. If those hook up and battle early, she should be able to get over the top.
      Mahoning Valley - Race #8
#2 Sessa Sisu She's in pretty honest form right now, and that's not something most of these can say. Mild worry about the way she can give away ground late, but I think she dunks on these.
#7 Starcourt She finished just in front of the top choice last out, but I think that one is more likely to turn the tables today. Main danger with some OK recent form.
#1 Frothy He'll cut back and move to the main off the Tampa turf runs, but I think she's going to have a little too much work to do late at this sharper trip.
Race Summary Sessa Sisu should be in the frame from the start, and this doesn't feel like a particularly deep field for the level. Top-heavy race -- would be relatively surprised if it weren't her or Starcourt in the circle after this.

        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Parx - Race #1
#6 I CAN DO MAGIC (4-1) Decent long sprint form at good prices, can pay off quickly on claim.
#7 TIZ MARKS SPIRIT (5-2) Improved for this barn in second half of 3yo season, gets Hernandez.
#5 VINI VIDI VICI (7-2) Controlled easy pace in romp, broke slowly and tired in faster 7F follow-up.
Race Summary I CAN DO MAGIC finished in the money in three of his last four long sprints at 6-1 odds or higher. He was 4-wide on the turn but got first run on a pair of deep closers in his last start, finishing third from post 10. Bet to win and place and play a 5-6-7 exacta box.
        Parx - Race #5
#2 SON OF THOR (5-1) No breathers battling for lead in 4-path, shortens up off the claim.
#3 AU SOME WARRIOR (4-1) Awakened with Lasix, drew clear to break maiden in 10-horse field.
#6 TYCOON MOGUL (3-1) Chased wide, angled wider, improved in lane, claimed at Aqueduct by Ness.
Race Summary SON OF THOR emerged from a wild scramble while 4-wide on the turn with a brief lead near the top of the stretch. He was squeezed between rivals in mid-stretch and continued willingly, though out of the money. He cuts back to a short sprint in his second start this year and first try for new connections. Bet to win and place and play 2-3 and 2-6 exactas.
        Parx - Race #6
#8 PRINCE OF CHILL (7-2) Best numbers, faces weak field, slow starts the only drawback.
#7 THE GATEKEEPER (15-1) Tries to recapture front-end summer form, worth using in gimmick wagers.
#3 MISSOURI RIVER (4-1) Two wins at Parx as the odds-on favorite within his last five go-rounds.
Race Summary PRINCE OF CHILL continues to pile up the checks, finishing behind short-priced rivals in his three starts going a route of ground this year. He gets class relief on his return from Aqueduct and could have only a slow starting habit to overcome to defeat eight rivals who are a combined 16-for-177. Bet to win and place and play 8-3, 8-7 and 7-8 exactas.
