    WHO'S HOT

NCAAF: Miami (Ohio) is 6-2 against the spread in its last eight home games.

NCAAF: Ohio is 5-2 against the spread in its last seven games as a road favorite.

NCAAB: The over is 8-3 in Wisconsin’s last 11 overall.

NHL: Carolina is 11-4 in its last 15 games in Montreal.

    WHO'S NOT

NCAAF: The under is 1-5 in Western Michigan’s last six.

NCAAF: Bowling Green is 10-23 against the spread in its last 33 home games.

NCAAB: Pitt is 1-4 against the spread in its last five non-conference games.

NHL: Chicago is 3-7 in its last 10 meetings with Vancouver.

    KEY STAT

-110- Oddsmakers currently have the United States set as -110 favorites against the International side in the President’s Cup, which tees off Thursday at Royal Melbourne.

    INJURY THAT SHOULDN'T BE OVERLOOKED

Roberto Luongo, Vancouver Canucks – Luongo will miss Wednesday night's game against the Chicago Blackhawks with an upper body injury. Luongo is being listed as day to day. Backup Cory Schneider will draw the start in net against the Blackhawks. Luongo is 7-5 with a 2.97 goals-against average and .896 save percentage this season for the reigning Western Conference champions.

    GAME OF THE DAY

Ohio Bobcats at Bowling Green Falcons (6.5, 57.5)

    NOTABLE QUOTABLE

"We can't fall asleep back there in the secondary. It can get boring, especially when a team just keeps running the ball, series after series, play after play." – New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis on facing Denver’s run-heavy offense with Tim Tebow at quarterback.

    TIPS AND NOTES

Mississippi coach Houston Nutt has suspended starting quarterback Randall Mackey and top rusher Jeff Scott for Saturday's game against No. 1 LSU for team rules violations. Nutt did not elaborate on the reason for the suspensions, which he said could spill over to the season finale against Mississippi State. It was announced in early November that Nutt would not return as coach next season after not failing to meet expectations. Mackey has thrown for 1,112 yards and seven touchdowns this season. Backup Zack Stoudt is expected to get the start against the Tigers. Scott has 529 rushing yards and six scores on the campaign. Ole Miss is pegged as a 29.5-point underdog for this week's game.

The Chicago Blackhawks begin their annual road trip with the circus coming to the United Center. They’ll kick off a six-game trek Wednesday in Vancouver and won’t be back home again until Nov. 29.

UCLA has suspended forward Reeves Nelson indefinitely for conduct unbecoming of a member of the team. Coach Ben Howland said Nelson would not play in Tuesday night's game against Middle Tennessee State. Nelson's status will be re-evaluated after he meets with Howland later this week. Nelson, a junior, had 13 points and eight rebounds in the then No. 17-ranked Bruins' 69-58 season-opening loss to Loyola Marymount last week.

      Wednesday's Best NHL Bets

Chicago Blackhawks at Vancouver Canucks (-130, 5.5)

There’s no love lost between these clubs and both are rounding into form ahead of Wednesday’s date.

They combined for 56 minutes in penalties in Vancouver’s 6-2 win at the United Center on Nov. 6 and both teams are clicking offensively right now. The Canucks are averaging four goals per game over their last four while Chicago has tallied 16 in its last three.

"When you play with confidence you don't really think about what you're doing, you maybe get back to the game that you played when you were younger," Canucks defenseman Aaron Rome told reporters after scoring three goals in four games. "I played in offensive situations at all levels, so I knew that I kind of had it in me, but maybe not to this extent."

Chicago may be without standout defenseman Brent Seabrook after he crashed into the end boards on Sunday and the Blackhawks will come out firing to begin their annual road trip with the circus coming to the United Center.

      PICK: Over

Anaheim Ducks at Los Angeles Kings (-165, 5)

This isn’t exactly the way either the Kings or Ducks expected to start the season, but a home-and-home between the two clubs should at least light a spark.

Los Angeles has won just three of its last 10 while Anaheim has just two wins in its last 12. So while there’s still lots of time to turn things around, frustrations are beginning to set in.

"We have to put some wins together now. It starts on Wednesday," Anaheim defenseman Cam Fowler told reporters. "We should be going into those two games like Stanley Cup Game 7. It's a big rivalry. Playing those guys back to back, home and home, it could get us going in the right way or it could set us back again. We have to be ready."

Fowler wasn’t the only one to note the urgency of this matchup. Ryan Getzlaf, who has only nine points this season, defended Anaheim’s coaching staff while challenging the rest of the team to step up.

This is going to be a good one.

      PICK: Anaheim Ducks

        Ducks, Kings Open Home-And-Home Series
        By Pete Jensen

Anaheim Ducks at Los Angeles Kings (-165, 5)
        DUCKS (6-8-3) at KINGS (8-6-3)

        TV: FS-W (HD)

        LAST 10: Anaheim 2-5-3; Los Angeles 3-5-2.

SEASON SERIES: These Pacific division rivals clash in their first of six meetings this season. Wednesday's game at Staples Center marks the opening leg of a home-and-home series that concludes on Thursday in Anaheim. Last season, the Ducks won four of six head-to-head matchups with their cross-town foes.

BIG STORY: Southern California will be treated to consecutive nights of spirited hockey as the Ducks and Kings open up a home-and-home set to kick off the next chapter of their "Freeway Faceoff" rivalry. Anaheim has lost seven of eight games heading into Wednesday's clash with the Kings, who have won two of three games to bounce back from a five-game losing skid.

        TEAM SCOPE:

DUCKS: Anaheim's 4-1-0 start to the season is a distant memory, as the team's star-studded offense has posted a League-worst goals-per-game average (2.00) through 17 games this season. The Ducks have combined for only 14 goals in their current stretch of seven defeats in eight games.

"You try to put your finger on it and do different things to prepare," Bobby Ryan told AnaheimDucks.com. "We've taken different approaches and nothing has worked. Twenty-five guys in the room have to say enough is enough and that hasn't happened yet. It's been embarrassing."

KINGS: Los Angeles failed to score more than two goals in a game in each of their five straight losses from Oct. 29-Nov. 7. But after two recent offensive outbursts last week in wins over Nashville and Minnesota, the Kings are back on track heading into the final game of their four-game homestand against the Ducks.

"I really liked the focus coming into the game [Saturday]," said Kings coach Terry Murray. "The players came out right away with the kind of intensity and attitude of moving their feet, getting pucks north, and recovering pucks."

WHO'S HOT: After a 16-game goal-scoring drought to start the season, Cam Fowler notched a pair of goals in Anaheim's 3-2 loss to Minnesota on Sunday. … Anze Kopitar has tallied two goals and five assists for Los Angeles in his last five games.

INJURY REPORT: Lubomir Visnovsky (broken finger) and George Parros (eye) are out, while Nick Bonino (knee) is listed as questionable. Bobby Ryan (flu-like symptoms) missed practice Tuesday and will be evaluated again on Wednesday. ... Dustin Penner (hand) has been placed on IR and will not play.

STAT PACK: The Kings' offense broke out for four goals in the second period of Saturday's win over the Wild. It was the first four-goal period for Los Angeles since scoring four unanswered third period goals in a 4-0 win over San Jose on Dec. 27, 2010.

PUCK DROP: "We have to put some wins together now," Fowler told the Los Angeles Times. "It starts on Wednesday. We should be going into those two games like Stanley Cup Game 7. It's a big rivalry. Playing those guys back-to-back, home-and-home, it could get us going in the right way or it could set us back again. We have to be ready."

          Wednesday's Best NCAAB Bets

Long Beach State 49ers at Pittsburgh Panthers (-13.5)

Over the past few years, the Pitt Panthers have been a tough team to get a read on. This season it could be even worse.

With 10 underclassmen trying to come together on the roster, Jamie Dixon’s squad may take a while to find itself. That much was evident in Pitt’s first two games of the year. The Panthers hammered Albany 89-56 in its opener and then barely squeaked by Rider 86-78 thanks to a 16-5 run down the stretch that still didn’t get Pitt supporters to the window with -22 tickets.

"We have so many young guys out there we've got to all be learning and listening and getting better," Dixon said. "We had older guys make young men mistakes and we've got to get that changed."

Granted, this is the time to tighten up these mistakes, but it’s hard to know which team we’re going to see on a nightly basis.

          PICK: Pittsburgh Panthers

Georgia Southern Eagles at Wake Forest Demon Deacons (-12.5)

When C.J. Harris and Travis McKie hit the bench midway through the second half of Wake Forest’s opener, coach Jeff Bzdelik had to be holding his breath.

He must have been seeing flashbacks of last season’s 10-point loss to Stetson. However, this time the Demon Deacons held on with their top scorers on the bench and then went on a 7-point run to close out Loyola of Maryland 75-63 as 2-point favorites.

"It was a great win for us," Bzdelik told reporters. "This basketball team showed a lot of grit and determination. Are there areas where we can do better? Sure. But we won."

The game wouldn’t have been nearly as close if Wake Forest had done a better job from the charity stripe. The Demon Deacons hit only 47.8 percent of their free throws and should be much better than that on a nightly basis.

          PICK: Georgia Southern Eagles

            Betting Preview: Long Beach State-Pittsburgh
            By CBSSports

Long Beach State 49ers at Pittsburgh Panthers (-13.5)

Jamie Dixon isn't used to Pittsburgh having much trouble early in the season, and his team's latest uneven performance left him with plenty of concerns.

The ninth-ranked Panthers hope to put a closer-than-expected victory behind them and continue their November dominance at the Petersen Events Center on Wednesday night against Long Beach State.

Pitt (2-0) rolled past Albany 89-56 in its season opener on Friday, hitting 13 of 22 3-pointers and looking every bit like a Final Four contender as its starting backcourt of Ashton Gibbs and Travon Woodall combined for 46 points.

Two days later, the Panthers more closely resembled the team that's made its share of early exits from the NCAA tournament under Dixon's watch. Down by as many as six midway through the second half against Rider, Pitt needed a game-closing 16-5 run to escape with an 86-78 victory.

"We're always concerned this time of year," said Dixon, whose program is 41-0 in non-conference November home games since the Petersen Events Center opened in 2002. "We've got to get better. This better not be our best, put it that way."

The Panthers have won 58 straight home games overall against non-Big East opponents since a January 2005 loss to Bucknell, a streak Gibbs is doing his best to extend. The senior has scored at least 21 points in both games while connecting on 9 of 21 3-pointers.

Pitt's top scorer, however, was more pleased with his team's defensive effort late against the Broncs. Rider scored just five points in the game's final five minutes.

"We started getting stops. It wasn't our best performance, but we got through it," Gibbs said. "We knocked down some key shots and got stops."

Despite the Panthers' solid play down the stretch and 10 underclassmen still trying to jell, Dixon was a bit concerned by his team's lack of its typical defensive intensity. Pitt has allowed its opponents to shoot 49.0 percent through two games and forced a total of 16 turnovers.

"We have so many young guys out there we've got to all be learning and listening and getting better," Dixon said. "We had older guys make young men mistakes and we've got to get that changed."

Long Beach State (1-0) has never met the Panthers, but it's unlikely the 49ers - who only lost by five points to North Carolina at Chapel Hill last season - will be intimidated.

LBSU played a challenging non-conference slate in 2010-11, and it's even tougher this season. After facing the Panthers, the 49ers visit 2011 NCAA tournament teams San Diego State, Louisville, Kansas, North Carolina and Xavier - all before Christmas.

That schedule makes it all the more significant for the 49ers not to slip up against teams they should beat, and a solid second half helped them survive their opener. Long Beach State trailed visiting Idaho 29-27 at halftime, but senior guards Casper Ware and Larry Anderson scored 24 of their 36 points in the second half to lead the way to a 69-61 win.

If the 49ers are to have any chance to shock the Panthers, they'll likely need Ware to outplay Gibbs. The reigning Big West player of the year averaged 16.5 points in LBSU's two games against ranked opponents last season, but also committed 11 turnovers.

Pitt has outrebounded its opponents 78-42 thus far.

              BANG THE BOOK

              Wednesday's Best NCAA CFB Bets

Ohio Bobcats at Bowling Green Falcons (+7, 57.5)

Midweek MAC games continue this week, and we are set to make our NCAA football picks in the duel between the Ohio Bobcats and the Bowling Green Falcons.

The Bobcats are the only team in the MAC East that can truly control their own destiny for a spot in the MAC Championship Game. They already have seven wins, but this game is crucial for more than just the league title race. An eighth win is going to make a strong case to the bowl games that Ohio is worthy of a slot. It doesn’t guarantee anything, but there will be at least one team with eight victories that doesn’t win this conference that does go bowling. The Bobcats have won three in a row and have scored at least 35 points in all three games to reach the top of the East Division standings thanks to the play of QB Tyler Tettleton. He is leading an offense that ranks in the Top 35 in total yards, passing, rushing, and scoring. He has thrown the rock for 2,445 yards and has rushed for 308 more, and he has a total of 29 touchdowns versus just six picks. His favorite target is WR LaVon Brazill, who has 48 receptions and 10 total touchdowns on the year. Getting 138 yards will make him one of the first 1,000 yard receivers in the nation this year.

betonline.comAfter a great 2-0 start to the season, Bowling Green has more or less fallen apart and only has one truly notable performance, a 13-10 upset over the Temple Owls on October 22nd. That’s the only win the team has had since September 24th. That being said, the team can reach bowl eligibility with an upset in this one and a win over the Buffalo Bulls next week, but even that almost certainly won’t send the Falcons to a bowl game. Speaking of great receivers, the Falcons have won of their own in WR Kamar Jorden. He has 67 receptions for 928 yards and nine scores this year, and the senior will be playing in his final home game after over 2,000 yards, over 160 receptions, and 13 scores in his two years at Bowling Green. QB Matt Schilz has 2,556 yards and 21 TDs this year, but he has also been picked off 10 times and often makes mistakes when he really needs to keep the football under his control.

Ohio Bobcats @ Bowling Green Falcons Pick: Though this is the last home game of the year for BGSU, we just don’t think that it has the oomph to finish off the Bobcats. Ohio is clearly the superior team, and though this might be a tough game for awhile, in the end, the visitors will be able to prevail relatively comfortably.

              PICK: Ohio Bobcats -7

Western Michigan Broncos at Miami-OHIO Redhawks (-2, 58.5)

If you’re a fan of passing the football, you’ll love Wednesday night’s MAC college football betting affair, as the Western Michigan Broncos will take on the Miami Redhawks at Fred Yager Stadium.

The boys from Kalamazoo went 6-6 last year in the MAC, but they were left out of the bowl season. This year, winning this game would leave them at 7-5, which might not be enough once again. QB Alex Carder is going to have to have a big time game in this one, as he once again really doesn’t have all that much of a running attack to help him out. Carder is accounting for about a quarter of the team’s rushing with 234 yards and four TDs, but for the most part, this is a pure passing attack. WMU ranks No. 9 in the land in passing, and it is because Carder already has over 3,000 passing yards and 25 TDs on the campaign. WR Jordan White has been a monster, catching 112 passes for 1,402 yards and 12 TDs. However, this isn’t nearly the only option that Carder has to throw the ball to. Both WRs Chleb Ravenell and Robert Arnheim have the ability to stretch the field as well, as the two have combined for 93 catches, 1,111 yards, and nine TDs.

Miami hasn’t had the greatest season in the world at just 4-6, but thanks to the weak play of the MAC East, winning out and getting a loss from the Temple Owls somewhere along the way would leave it in the MAC Championship Game. There isn’t a team that struggles more to run the ball than the Redhawks, though. They are putting together just 77.2 yards per game, and they aren’t nearly as prolific as the Broncos throwing the rock. Sure, QB Zac Dysert is getting there in his third year as the starter of this team, but he is only averaging 280.4 yards per game for his team through the air. Interestingly enough, Miami has a fantastic pass defense at 171.0 yards per game, but there is a real question whether this unit is really that great, or whether it is a product of a bunch of poor passing offenses. In the only game against a somewhat comparable team, the Bowling Green Falcons put up 37 points in a game played here in Oxford. This ‘D’ has been all over the board, posting five games with 17 points or fewer, but five games with 27 points or more allowed.

Western Michigan Broncos @ Miami Redhawks Pick: We just don’t believe that the Redhawks have the ability to beat a team that basically mirrors it. WMU is just a better version of this Miami squad, and we figure to see the visitors come to town and walk away with a victory to at least keep their slender bowl hopes alive and to crush those of the Redhawks once and for all.

              PICK: Western Michigan Broncos +2

Wednesday Night MACtion: What Bettors Need To Know
                By David Payne Purdum

Ohio Bobcats at Bowling Green Falcons (+7, 57.5), 8 p.m. ET, ESPN

Ohio’s 49-25 beat down of Bowling Green last year was way worse that the score indicated.

Favored by nine, the Bobcats out-gained the Falcons 239-89 in the first half and led 28-3 at intermission.

A year has gone by, but Ohio is the more talented team this year and will bring an extremely balanced attack that is averaging 33 points.
THE BOBCATS (7-3, 5-5 ATS) have won three straight, including Thursday’s 43-28 win at Central Michigan.

THE FALCONS (4-6, 5-5 ATS) has lost two straight by an average margin of 20.5 points. The Falcons were no match for Northern Illinois and surrendered 623 total yards to the Huskies on Tuesday.

Ohio has covered the spread in nine of its last 10 games in November under coach Frank Solich.

                THE LINE

Ohio opened as a 7-point favorite at the Las Vegas Wynn on Sunday, but the number had dropped under the key number and was hanging around 6.5 as of Tuesday evening.

The total opened at 57.5 Tuesday and was holding steady.

                WEATHER

Forecasts call for rain throughout the afternoon, but it is expected to stop by kickoff. Wind shouldn’t be much a factor.

                INJURY REPORT

Bowling Green starting corner Jeffery Garrett, who missed the Northern Illinois game, is listed as questionable with a hamstring.

Ohio is reporting no recent impactful injuries.

                TRENDS

Bowling Green has covered the spread in nine of the last 12 meetings with Ohio.

The Over is 9-1 in Ohio’s last 10 games in November.

Heading into Tuesday night’s Ball State-Northern Illinois games, the seven MAC games played in November had averaged

                Western Michigan Broncos at Miami (OH) Redhawks (-2, 58.5), 8 p.m., ESPN2

Pass-happy offenses collide, when one-dimensional Miami (OH) hosts Western Michigan in a MAC showdown between two teams fighting for bowl eligibility.

THE REDHAWKS (4-6, 6-4 ATS), led by junior quarterback Zac Dysert, own the 20th-ranked pass offense, but also the 120th-ranked ground attack, which averages a puny 80 yards per game.

THE BRONCOS (5-5, 6-4 ATS) aren’t much more balanced. Behind quarterback Alex Carder, WMU has the best passing offense in the MAC, averaging 333 yards through the air. But they’re 8th in the conference in rushing.

Western Michigan has played a decidedly tougher schedule. The RedHawks’ have the 118th-ranked strength of schedule; The Broncos are 60th.

                THE LINE

The RedHawks opened as 1-point favorites at the Wynn on Sunday. The early money was on the home team, driving the line to -2, where it opened at most books.

Miami has performed well when facing teams with similar talent, covering the spread in five of its last six games as a favorite of three or less.

                The total opened at 58.5.

                HEAD-TO-HEAD

The two teams did not play last year. Western Michigan handled Miami, 48-28, as a 15.5-point favorite in 2009 and has won the last two meetings.

                INJURY REPORT

Neither team is reporting any recent impactful injuries.

                WEATHER

It will be chilly with temperatures in the 30s, but no precipitation or significant wind is forecast.

                TRENDS

Under is 4-1 in RedHawks last five games in November and 5-2 in Western Michigan’s last seven games in November.

Western Michigan is 5-22-1 straight-up all-time in Oxford, Ohio.
