    #2
    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

    Hawthorne - Race #2
#1 Team Troy Not a lot of serious pace lined up here, so he might get the run of the race from the fence with his bit of tactical speed. Think he can handle these with a good race flow waiting for him.
#7 Berkus He took a step back when getting two turns last time out, but he's finding an even easier spot while dropping off the claim and can wake up while turning back.
#5 Plunder No real depth in this spot, so one of his baseline runs might be good enough for a big piece of this. Not thrilled about him, but he fits in a bad spot.
Race Summary Team Troy has a little bit of positional pace that might translate to an advantageous forward trip here. Likely to be a lot shorter than that 5/1 ML offering.
    Hawthorne - Race #4
#5 Curls Nite Out Willing to forgive that turf try last out, as that now makes two flat tries on the grass, but her main-track form fits well enough here if she can bring something like the two-back run. Tactical speed should get a good run.
#6 Mo Smoking She should find a pretty good spot while in touch in a race without a ton of serious pace, and something like the last one might be good enough for some of this.
#3 Starina She's the one to beat and will probably be tough, but the price might get on the short side, and I'm at least a small bit worried about the race shape.
Race Summary Curls Nite Out has some appeal from close up while moving back over to the main track. She can get a big jump on a couple of the other threats.
    Hawthorne - Race #7
#4 Be My Bestie Nothing but brief tracking pace from her in those last couple races at Oaklawn, but she might find a really good spot while tracking the speedier players early on. Inherits the lead?
#5 April's Gem Dropper might need longer, but I'm not overwhelmed by the talent in this group, so that Fair Grounds form with better might transfer OK here.
#9 Heavenly Wish She'll have to fire fresh, but she's another with a little bit of pace-spying appeal in a race where I think a couple of the speed types might be coming back late.
Race Summary Be My Bestie looks likely to get a really good run of things in this spot, and she might get towed into the pace in a race where I don't trust any of the serious speed types

      #3
      Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

      Penn National - Race #1
#4 RAGING BEAR (5-1) Poor record, many chances at this level, but still packs dangerous speed.
#2 LUCKY LUCKY LUKE (7-2) Plagued by slow-starting habit, starts fresh for new connections.
#3 WARRIOR ON TAP (2-1) Swept 6-wide to runaway victory in sixth try at nw/2 level.
Race Summary RAGING BEAR is 2-for-27 and winless the last two years, but he will take some catching in his second long-distance test. He made a move at the even-money pace controller last out at 6F. Bet to win and place and play a 4-ALL exacta.
      Penn National - Race #2
#6 BLACKDIAMOND DINNY (3-1) Returns to sprint off 1:01 workout, race two back stacks up well.
#5 DAKOTA SPRINGS (5-2) Takes class hike after two wire-to-wire wins by a combined 14-1/2 lengths.
#1 STYLE TO FOLLOW (5-1) Rallied into moderate pace to finish third at distance which she won at.
Race Summary BLACKDIAMOND DINNY tired badly against better going a route of ground as the favorite, but if she duplicates her sprint try two back, she can get back in the winners’ circle. She willingly pursued the 1-to-5 favorite and was clearly second best at 6F in her first start for this barn. Bet to win and place and play 6-1 and 6-5 exactas.
      Penn National - Race #3
#5 WHY STOP THERE (7-2) Parx invader blew clear lead at 6F, shortens up, runs for cheapest tag yet.
#9 ABBY’S SPIRIT (15-1) Useful comeback after nine months away, gets pace to rally into at big price.
#2 CARBONITE (9-2) Stablemate of top one showed newfound speed in near miss at 6-1/2F.
Race Summary WHY STOP THERE broke his maiden at this distance off similar rest to end his 3-year-old season. He blew a commanding lead at 6F last out before the winning favorite and deep closers passed by. Bet to win and place and play a 1-2-5-9 exacta box.

            PURCHASE

            Turfway Park - Race #4 - Post: 7:25pm - Starter Allowance - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $34,000 Class Rating: 84

            Rating:

            #1 ALTOBELLI (ML=6/1)
            #3 GRAYDARIA (ML=5/1)
            #7 KUNAN (ML=3/1)
            #5 SPINBACK (ML=9/2)

ALTOBELLI - I think the shorter distance will help this colt stay the trip. This colt was sharp enough to post a 'top two' workout recently. I think he's ready for today's event. When a thoroughbred drops at least 5 pounds (like this one is), you must take notice. It may not seem like much, but could make the difference. GRAYDARIA - This speedball should profit from this shorter trip. This gelding should be in top form, this far into his form cycle. KUNAN - A win pct the likes of what Corrales and Cox have achieved together is tremendous. I like to play this handicapping angle, a thoroughbred coming back off a nice effort within the last month. SPINBACK - It looks like Machado had to come to know this colt on February 12th when riding him for the initial time. Back aloft again today.

            Vulnerable Contenders: #6 STARGAZZERS DREAM (ML=7/2), #2 RULOOKINFORRAYRAY (ML=5/1),

STARGAZZERS DREAM - Don't think that this colt has value at 7/2 today. RULOOKINFORRAYRAY - The lack of morning drills has to make one concerned despite the good effort in the last race. Recorded a mediocre speed rating in the last race in a $30,000 Claiming race on February 14th. Not likely to see an improved performance off of that rating.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Have to go with #1 ALTOBELLI on the win end if we get at least 9/2 odds

              # 4 BE MY BESTIE 3/1
I give my vote to APRIL'S GEM in this race and is a formidable value wager given the line. Had one of the most respectable speed figures of this group in her last race. Has competitive Equibase Class Figures relative to this group - worth a look. GO STORMIN GIRL - Has solid speed figures and has to be considered for a wager for this event. BE MY BESTIE - Hernandez has a sharp winning percentage with horses racing in dirt sprint races. Shows reliable speed figures on average overall when put alongside the rest of this field.

                # 6 MOONSHINE MAMA 5/2
                # 8 JUNE BELLE 12/1
RUBY BAY is the most favorable bet in this race. This filly gets a boost with Cruz in the irons. Will more than likely be one of the leaders of the pack going into the midpoint of the outing. The average class figure alone makes this one a solid contender. MOONSHINE MAMA - Brown has a very strong win percent with horses travelling in dirt sprint races. Last time out, this filly faced a much tougher bunch.

Mahoning Valley Race Course - Race #3 - Post: 1:11pm - Claiming - 8.3 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $12,100 Class Rating: 69

                  Rating:

                  #4 LT'S JACKNTHEBOX (ML=3/1)

LT'S JACKNTHEBOX - This gelding is in good form, having run a strong race on Mar 20th, finishing third.

Vulnerable Contenders: #7 PHOTO HOP (ML=9/5), #6 JAY (ML=7/2), #1 OUTA JAIL ON BAIL (ML=6/1),

PHOTO HOP - This favorite may be out of form without any recent morning drills. This animal doesn't have a conquering temperament. Regularly finishes close, but no cigar. JAY - This questionable contender gave a less than rousing performance last time finishing eighth. Can't expect any betterment today. This gelding notched a speed fig in his last clash which probably isn't good enough in today's event. OUTA JAIL ON BAIL - When looking at today's class rating, he will have to garner a better speed figure than last time out to battle in this dirt route.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: #4 LT'S JACKNTHEBOX to win at post-time odds of 1/1 or better
