    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

    Sunland Park - Race #1
#6 Bill He'll go third off the break after improving a bit in that last one, and I could see him getting an OK tracking trip behind a couple of quicker players. Enough to like.
#7 Colfax Kid He's probably competitive with his baseline run, but he has given away ground in the stretch call of every race he has ever run, so I am not going to blame anyone for looking elsewhere.
#1 Golden Creek He's the one to beat after knocking on the door in recent runs, but he's starting to get short on excuses and is another with a history of shortening stride late.
Race Summary Bill looks like he could be one of the few in here who might -- and I stress the 'might' -- have the ability to get past horses at some point. Could play well here if he can.
    Sunland Park - Race #5
#6 Atilla Style Not totally sold here, but I think the price might be playable enough to hope that small step forward last out means something similar today. Tracking trip should at least give her a chance to get in the picture at some point if she fires with the boys today.
#5 Hardy Boy He might get a similar trip to the top choice. His recent efforts have come for claiming tags, but I think he at least some appeal on style to come along late for a piece.
#8 Adiel I like the pace he briefly flashed last out, and he drew well enough to attack anyone else who wants to show speed closer to the fence. Wouldn't be a shock to see him stick around better today.
Race Summary Atilla Style stacks up well with these, and there are a couple finishing efforts on her page that could translate nicely with this crew if she can bring that kind of run today.
    Sunland Park - Race #10
#11 Still in the Trap He has been settling for underneath shares, but I like the way today's race sets up for him to potentially sustain his run enough to get past them.
#4 Massive Roar Not much to complain about in those last couple on the page, and he can probably bring competitive speed to this sharper trip while racing off the layoff. The one to beat if he's ready to go.
#1 Wall Street Logic Tactical speed might tuck in for a really cozy run of things, and I wouldn't be against considering this one on top if the price stays close to that 6/1 ML.
Race Summary Still in the Trap has a grinding kind of finishing style that should keep him in the frame, especially if Massive Roar can't stay off the bench.

      Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

      Gulfstream Park - Race #3
#1 THE GREAT OSCAR (6-1) Late runner fits well with alert break from rail if he handles surface switch.
#2 GIFTEDBYDESIGN (8-5) Validated improved form as gelding, rallied into fast middle splits at 7-1/2F.
#5 RISK FACTOR (8-1) Speed, class drop and fresh start make him usable in gimmick wagers.
Race Summary THE GREAT OSCAR showed some late kick on dirt and turf, now draws the rail for his first try on the all-weather surface. He ran second at this level in his debut and was bumped at the start last out for a $25,000 tag while wearing blinkers. Bet to win and place and play a 1-2-5 exacta box.
      Gulfstream Park - Race #4
#6 TEMPLE CITY TABOO (6-1) Won grass route in debut, projects ideal trip for barn that claimed her.
#2 MAJESTIC DRIVE (9-5) Found proper level, ‘took over’ in stretch in race originally scheduled for turf.
#1 BETTER THAN BETTER (5-1) Lone two-time winner in field doesn’t shy from photo-finish camera.
Race Summary Half of the field comes into this $35,000 turf mile off victories. TEMPLE CITY TABOO wasn’t one of them, perhaps only because she tested stakes company off a debut win from which she was claimed. She raced 3-wide most of the way and got up to win at 1-1/16 miles. She gets back on Lasix today and gets the call for a win and place bet.
      Gulfstream Park - Race #5
#2 READIER (9-2) Should be just that at 5F on class drop in second start off layoff.
#1 NANDO (2-1) Tracked fast pace and rallied past Readier in stretch to finish third.
#7 BULLET BLUES (12-1) Ran into trouble in five-horse field, broke maiden at this level.
Race Summary READIER, out-dueled by the 3-to-5 winner at 5-1/2F, should be tighter in his second start after six months away and at a shorter distance. He might not out-quick TOOMUCHAINTENOUGH but he gets class relief and can sit just off the pace and win. Bet to win and place.

By Matt Shifman and Bob Ehalt

        Hot List Key:
        A:
A preferred horse to watch B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worst
        * - 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

3rd race [Clm 25000 N2L, 7F] – (3) She’s Cool (C) was bet down from 6-1 to 7-2 and finished third in a $40,000 claimer. (5) Catchphrase drops into a N2L condition for the first time after winning a NY-bred maiden special weight by more than six-lengths in January. (1) Dat Dares Right has early speed which could serve her well in this field. (2) Moonlit Weekend gets blinkers off and has a few past races at this level that would make her a contender.

4th race [Clm 20000, 6F] – (3) Equus comes back from a nine month layoff for Linda Rice and was third in a $50,000 claimer when she was taken by Rice. (2) Brzina was claimed for $32,000 last month by Rice. (5) My First Love hit the board in 5 out of her last 6 races with two wins and was claimed four times. (6) Sweet Gracie was claimed by Jamie Ness for $20,000 at Laurel and he wins with 26% of his new horses in their first starts.

5th race [Clm 15000, 6 ? F] – (4) Rockible broke his maiden for a $20,000 tag and then tried a $32,000 claimer which was far too tough. (5) Strand Road won a $40,000 maiden against NY-breds and then was over-matched for $30,000 at Parx. (1) Bookitwithhaddad like the others mentioned above, now moves to an appropriate claiming level compared to the maiden level victory. (2) One Vision won a $25,000 maiden for NY-breds.

8th race [NY, Md 30000, 1 mi] – (9) Ah Ca Ira (A) stumbled at the start, got far back, and rallied to miss by a half-length. (7) Dear John (B) returned to the correct level and finished second well clear of the rest of the field. (6) Houdini’s Bride returns from an almost year layoff when she just missed a maiden win at this level. (8) Khali’s Storm was second found an appropriate level when she was third against open company for a $20,000 tag.

Best bets: She’s Cool (3rd); Equus (4th). Best value: Rockible (5th); Ah Ca Ira (8th).

              Turf Paradise - Race #3 - Post: 1:51pm - Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $10,300 Class Rating: 76

              Rating:

              #8 RUN BABA RUN (ML=8/1)
              #6 MANDELA EFFECT (ML=5/1)

RUN BABA RUN - This gelding is most likely the strongest stretch runner in the field. Ran a fast time for the last quarter on March 12th at Turf Paradise. Anything close in this event should get the job done. Earnings per start is something that I feel can be a crucial factor. This mount is ranked at the very top in this bunch. Trainer Soto moves this one down in class to face a less competitive field. Look for a solid effort in this race. MANDELA EFFECT - Jock hops right back on board after getting to know the thoroughbred by riding in the last race. That's always a good tip. I really like that most recent race on March 11th at Turf Paradise where he ran third.

              Vulnerable Contenders: #7 MONGOLIAN FROST (ML=1/1), #3 PAISLEES PROMISE (ML=4/1), #4 DANDY DAY (ML=6/1),

MONGOLIAN FROST - This morning-line choice may be out of form without any recent works. PAISLEES PROMISE - Don't think that this gelding has value at 4/1 this time. DANDY DAY - This was a fit horse, but now this one hasn't been doing anything in the morning. Have to be somewhat leery of this horse. This filly didn't show me enough down the stretch drive to warrant backing against tougher opponents.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - RUN BABA RUN - When a thoroughbred has the upper hand over the rest of the field in TrackMaster Power Rating, I make a bet.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Putting our cash on #8 RUN BABA RUN to win. Have to have odds of at least 7/5 or better though
              EXACTA WAGERS: Box [6,8]

                RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                # 1 ATTILA'S BOY 8/1
                # 8 SHUG'S ROCKET 4/1
                # 4 B R KIDD ROCK 8/1
ATTILA'S BOY is the top wager in this race and the potential return justifies the very dangerous nature of the long odds. Is a solid contender - given the 67 speed rating from his most recent race. Strong choice to take this race going in a dirt sprint. SHUG'S ROCKET - Has very good Equibase speed figs and has to be considered for a bet here. Ramos has been hot the last month, winning at a nifty 34 percent clip. B R KIDD ROCK - Sound average Equibase Speed Figures in dirt sprint races make this pony a solid contender. Could provide positive gains based on very good recent Equibase Speed Figs with an average of 65.

                  Gulfstream Park - Race #3 - Post: 1:54pm - Maiden Claiming - 8.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $37,000 Class Rating: 85

                  Rating:

                  #1 THE GREAT OSCAR (ML=6/1)
                  #2 GIFTEDBYDESIGN (ML=8/5)

THE GREAT OSCAR - Finished fifth at Gulfstream Park last out. Was close at the end and at odds of 6/1 in this event, he looks like a possible contender. This thoroughbred picks up a lot of money per race around the track. I believe he can add to the lifetime bankroll today. Romero moves this gelding to the main track today. Look for a pretty big improvement from the most recent turf race. GIFTEDBYDESIGN - This gelding earned a strong speed figure of 80 in his last event. That speed rating should be good enough to score this time out. Closed a ton of ground in that last effort at 7 1/2 furlongs. Wouldn't be astonished to see him win today. Maiden is switching over to the main track, and may not have liked the turf last out. Has a good chance to win for the first time.

Vulnerable Contenders: #4 BOLT TO RUN (ML=3/1), #3 SIGAN VIENDO (ML=7/2), #5 RISK FACTOR (ML=8/1),

BOLT TO RUN - Just cannot wager on this steed. Didn't show me anything positive last out or on January 26th. When looking at today's class rating, he will have to earn a better speed figure than last out to be competitive in this dirt route. SIGAN VIENDO - In the last race this less than sharp equine finished fifth. Doesn't look promising for his chances this time around. Improbable that the speed figure he notched on December 1st will be good enough in this event. RISK FACTOR - 8/1 odds isn't enough for this participant when scrutinizing the most recent efforts. Garnered a substandard speed fig in the last race in a $75,000 Maiden Optional Claiming race on February 14th. Unlikely to see an improved performance off of that fig.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Have to go with #1 THE GREAT OSCAR on the win end if we get at least 5/2 odds
                  EXACTA WAGERS: Box [1,2]
                  TRIFECTA WAGERS: Skip

IT'S ABOVE ME NOW looks really good to best this field of starters. Horoscope said take a chance today, this solid standardbred is as good as any to take a shot with. This gelding has been squaring off versus some of the most competitive company in this group of horses recently. Had one of the most solid TrackMaster Speed Ratings of the pack in his last race. Must use in your bets. HIGH BALLER - Has the look of a profitable play, averaging a nifty 75 speed rating. With a 76 avg class stat, this horse has one of the most respectable class advantages in the bunch. GIVENUPDREAMING - Really liked this horse's last race. Ran a solid 76 speed figure. Major contender. Formidable driver-trainer, winning 44 percent of the time. Should be supported as a magnificent bet.

The consensus this time is that TIPSY MONI is the one to beat. Overall percentages look great. Can't throw her out of the picture. That 94 TrackMaster speed fig clocked in the most recent race puts this nice horse in the mix in this one. When the trainer Engblom puts Gingras up for the drive great things happen. Take a look at the 20 win percent. KEG STAND - Seems to have a very good class advantage based on the opponents he has raced against. This trainer, and the driver Bartlett, go together like cookies and milk. Their results together are top notch. BLACK MAGIC - Pace figures show this race horse has what it takes to score for this race.
