    #2
    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

    Churchill Downs - Race #2
#7 Red Royalty Not much by way of finishing form lined up today, and she has at least been able to get past some horses a couple times. Picks them up today?
#3 Readytoriskitall She'd be no surprise on this kind of drop, and she looks most likely to stay of the early players. Could win the battle of attrition in a cheap spot with a handful of forward types.
#12 Union Dame She's another with some ability to close, but she has had a lot of chances and keeps finding one or two of them a bit too tough.
Race Summary Think there is a lot to like today about Red Royalty with a couple of mild finishing efforts on her page. Hoping a fair pace in a soft spot will set things up for her.
    Churchill Downs - Race #7
#8 Lil Muggs The dirt form is interesting enough to think he can bring something better today, and he draws well to spy the speed from the outside. Price might be OK.
#6 March of Time He's the one to beat with three reliable races under his belt already, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Baffert come out with a loaded hand in the CD return on Derby week.
#1 Fort Sam There is enough chasing pace to think someone will keep him honest, but he has some speed to use from the inside, and there's a scenario in which he breaks well and controls this throughout. Just not sure how likely that is...only on backup plays for me.
Race Summary Lil Muggs can find a good spot tracking the splits from the outside, and I'll try to get him in the top two with March of Time, and maybe Fort Sam on some stretch tickets.
    Churchill Downs - Race #8
#11 In a Jam His more recent form is a bit unreliable, but there are several races on his page that I think would put him in position to handle this crew at a midrange price. Versatile type gives his rider a couple options from out wide.
#1 West Hollywood Expecting better today after the no-show in a Keeneland race I liked a bit, and his ceiling is obviously high enough to play here with that Grade III romp on his page from last fall.
#4 Out of Deductions He has been knocking on the door at huge prices, but he'll definitely take more cash today after turning in a second consecutive sharp try in a row at Keeneland earlier this month. One of the ones if he holds form. Easy to like.
Race Summary In a Jam has a forgettable dirt try to his name last out, but that leaves him a lot of upside while getting over to the turf today. He knocked heads with some of the best 3-year-old turfers last season and can get home today with one of his better tries.

      #3
      Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

      Parx - Race #1
#2 EVERHEART (9-2) Drew clear to two easy wins with Bowman aboard, drops below re-claim level.
#5 YOU’RE FOREVER (4-1) Cuts back to 6F, where he finished a willing second and beat a weak field.
#1 BUCCHANERA (6-1) Put away the pace setter mid-turn, drew clear and got caught for new barn.
Race Summary EVERHEART romped to a maiden win more than a year ago for a barn that re-claimed him out of a victory in his second start this year. He runs for his cheapest claiming price yet and lands in an ideal spot to pick up win number three since adding Lasix. Bet to win and place and play a 1-2-5 exacta box.
      Parx - Race #2
#5 HURRICANE JANE (9-5) Met winning faves going a route of ground, just missed on cutback to 7F.
#6 MOPSY (4-1) Hard-ridden and extremely wide in debut, good run on turn, added ground a plus.
#2 LA DE PELUCHE (3-1) Finished in money in 3 of last 4 starts as record fell to 0-for-20.
Race Summary HURRICANE JANE advanced between rivals, then dueled inside the winner in the final furlong to just miss at 19-1 odds. She figures tough in this field with a duplicate performance at the same distance. Bet to win and place and play 5-2 and 5-6 exactas.
      Parx - Race #5
#2 COMMINGLING (7-2) Six-figure earner has speed, tries to get the distance for sharp claim barn.
#4 FENWICK JACK (5-1) Three-peat bid was derailed by the favorite, picks up 5 pounds.
#1 RERALLY (5-2) Loves Parx, doesn’t shy from photo-finish camera, gets class relief.
Race Summary COMMINGLING carried his speed to two wins and a near miss in his last seven starts, but he faded out of the money in three tries beyond 7F. His long-distance fortunes could change for a barn in the midst of a 6-for-19 streak with claimed runners. Bet to win and place.

            Will Rogers Downs - Race #7 - Post: 4:07pm - Allowance - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $23,000 Class Rating: 92

            Rating:

            #2 R DOC (ML=3/1)
            #3 AMBIGUOUS (ML=7/2)

R DOC - Kimes is up for another contest today after riding on board this animal for the 1st attempt on April 9th and ought to know the ropes to this one a little better. Kimes and Ferrell perform well when they are put together. It's hard to beat a +154 ROI for a jock and conditioner. AMBIGUOUS - Biehler brings him back again. I recommend you stay with this strong gelding. Look two races back where the mount finished first. You can excuse the last event where he bounced a bit. I see a return to form today.

            Vulnerable Contenders: #6 BIG MUCKITY (ML=5/2), #5 I AM GRODD (ML=6/1), #7 BLUEBERRY EYES (ML=6/1),

BIG MUCKITY - This animal doesn't have a tenacious state of mind. Quite often finishes second or third. I AM GRODD - Should be difficult for this racer to beat this field off of that last speed figure. Not likely to improve enough to run a figure close enough to today's class figure, so put him on the possibly overvalued contestants list. BLUEBERRY EYES - When looking at today's class rating, she will have to record a much better fig than last time out to be competitive in this dirt route.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: #2 R DOC is the play if we get odds of 2/1 or better

Race 1 - Maiden Special Weight - 5.5f on the Dirt. Purse: $15000 Class Rating: 56

FOR MAIDENS, FILLIES AND MARES THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD. THREE YEAR OLDS, 118 LBS.; OLDER, 126 LBS.
              RECOMMENDED CHOICES
              # 2 FLIGHTNING BOLT 2/1
              # 5 LA CLASICA 3/1
              # 3 REALTA 10/1
FLIGHTNING BOLT has a strong shot to take this race. She has been racing solidly lately while recording sharp Equibase Speed Figs. Look for a competitive pace improvement from this animal who enters with second time Lasix today. The winning percentage shown by horses entered by Martinez running at this distance are the strongest in this group. LA CLASICA - Looks quite good against this group and will most likely be one of the leaders. REALTA - Could provide positive profits based on competitive recent Speed Figures with an average of 50.

                # 5 CLASSIC MYSTERY 2/1
                # 3 GO CHLOE GO 6/1
I've got to go with MABEE A MIRACLE. Is tough not to consider based on Equibase Speed Figures which have been very strong - 56 avg - of late. Had one of the best Equibase speed figs of this field in her last competition. Has very good Equibase Class Figures relative to this group of horses - worth a look. CLASSIC MYSTERY - Is difficult not to consider based on speed figures which have been solid - 50 avg - of late. Must be considered a solid choice on earnings per start at the distance/surface alone.

                  Turf Paradise - Race #7 - Post: 4:12pm - Optional Claiming - 5.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $22,500 Class Rating: 99

                  Rating:

                  #5 MEANT FOR ME (ML=7/2)
                  #2 HELLADIC (ML=4/1)
                  #11 FORT NECESSITY (ML=15/1)

MEANT FOR ME - I think the shorter distance will help this gelding stay the distance. HELLADIC - Gelding has shown some early speed. This shorter distance should be better for him. Last raced at Los Alamitos (Quarter Hor carrying 9 lbs more. The lower weight carried today should serve him well. FORT NECESSITY - Gelding's last workout was second fastest of the day for the distance. Rider hops right back on board after getting to know the race horse by riding last time out. That's always a green light. Look for this one to go all the way home at some decent odds in this race. Ran fifth in last race, but not more than 5 from the lead at the wire.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #8 PRISONER (ML=3/1), #7 BODENHEIMER (ML=5/1), #6 HAUNTED HAZE (ML=8/1),

PRISONER - No good fortune for this questionable contender in a short distance race over the last two months tells me that this gelding is in a difficult circumstance BODENHEIMER - When looking at today's class figure, he will have to garner a much better speed rating than in the last race to battle in this dirt sprint. HAUNTED HAZE - Would have to improve off that fourth place finish last time out to make an impact here. 8/1 is not priced right for any horse in a sprint of 5 furlongs that hasn't hit the board in a sprint event of late.
