    Oh please god no

    Vikings will talk about Favre

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- The Minnesota Vikings haven't discussed the possibility of pursuing veteran quarterback Brett Favre. Yet.

Speaking on the first day of his team's rookie minicamp, coach Brad Childress said there hasn't been time to discuss the New York Jets' decision to release Favre. The move made Favre a free agent, raising speculation he was considering a return to the game despite releasing a statement in which he said his plans were to remain retired "at this time."

"We talk about everything," Childress said. "So yeah, I'm sure we'll talk about that."

Favre, 39, was roundly believed to be interested in joining the Vikings last summer, but Green Bay refused to release him and ultimately traded him to the Jets. He announced his retirement for the second time in February, citing in large part a biceps injury that would require surgery.

The Vikings plan to pit Tarvaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels in a training camp competition, and Childress said he hasn't thought beyond that.

"I'm more focused on our three quarterbacks right now," Childress said. "Tarvaris, Sage and J.D. [Booty], and seeing how they progress through our offseason program."

Brett Favre told SI's Peter King Tuesday night that he truly believes his career is over, but he's leaving the door open to a return in the future.
"I truly, truly believe it's over," said football's Hamlet. "But if someone calls Nov. 1, who knows?" Favre plans to keep practicing with Oak Grove High in Mississippi and will continue to work out, though he says it's not with intention of keeping in playing shape. He says he made his decision to jilt the Vikings because he knew he wouldn't enter the season at 100 percent, and that's no way to enter a 16-game grind.

He's back. He will probably retire next week though.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Record-setting quarterback Brett Favre is expected to sign with the Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday, WCCO-TV in Minneapolis reported, citing a high-level source with the team.

                              advertisement

WCCO-TV spoke with an official at the airport in Favre's hometown of Hattiesburg, Miss., who saw an airplane with the Vikings logo leave the airport Tuesday morning. The Associated Press is reporting that Favre arrived at a St. Paul airport and departed in an SUV for a meeting with Vikings officials.

Favre was greeted at the airport by Vikings coach Brad Childress, who told the AP it is the Vikings' plan to sign the former quarterback of the rival Green Bay Packers "in a perfect world."

Favre, who played for the New York Jets last season, told the Vikings on July 28 that he would remain retired.

Favre, who will turn 40 on Oct. 10, played 16 seasons for the Packers. The teams meet Oct. 5 in Minnesota and Nov. 1 in Green Bay.

Favre, in 17 NFL seasons, owns all-time league records for pass attempts (9,280), completions (5,720), passing yards (65,127), touchdowns (464) and interceptions (310).
