I am watching Food Inc now. I watched "Fat Sick and Nearly Dead" and "Forks Over Knives". FOK is actually really interesting, but both docs have an obvious slant and are not what I would call hard hitting science. Mac Danzig had a little section on FOK. BUt they are both inspiring to veggie eaters, which I am primarily anyway. I probably eat at least 50% from fruits and veggies. I love BBQ, so that will be hard... other meat, I really don't care that much about it. I will crave a steak like 1x per year. I like seafood a lot though, and I eat a shit ton of chicken breast.
I have been really eating a lot of shit lately though.Last edited by MMA_scientist; 10-23-2012, 02:34 PM.2012: +19.33

I wouldn't be shocked if that were the case, but I WOULD be shocked if literally every "high level" cycler is a doper.I heart cockComment

I tried to live on $1 a meal a little while back. Not a good experience. It pretty much came down to ramen and PB&J for every meal. Even if you're eating at home, with the cost of ground beef and chicken I didn't find it possible.
And I assume you never eat out.I heart cockComment

I am at about $1.30 right now on average. My cost is somewhat subsidized by my 2 kids and wife who eat less than I do (I probably account for 50% of the food intake in the house). I think it is pretty easy to eat $1 meals, and I probably eat a lot more than you. My staples are chicken breast, shrimp, fish, broccoli, green beans, spinach, beans and lentils. I would think that PB&J would be WAY less than $1 per sandwich, probably about .20. But stir fry is the key to eating well on a budget.
I do eat out at restaurants, but I almost never eat fast food. I don't like it very much and I know that it is not healthy (not only not healthy, but an actively bad habit, like smoking or something). But my restaurant budget is in my "entertainment" budget, not my food budget, since that is what it is... it certainly is not necessity and it is definitely not cheaper than eating at home.2012: +19.33

I agree it is definitely not efficient for power lifters, but you can get plenty of protein from plant sources. The obvious answer is beans or soy(beans/tofu), you would only need about 10 cups per day to get 450 grams of protein. Or, you know, you could just take a supp. But I think Whey is actually a milk protein, so that won't work. You are going to have to use the pariah of all weightlifting proteins- soy protein.2012: +19.33

let us know what that does. Are you just shitting solid bricks of iron? I guess that is about right with the maximum amounts I have read, assuming you weigh about 215 still.
Are you still doing any mma training or did you puss out already and go back to your bitch weightroom to feel like a man?2012: +19.33

Your body needs some salt. Try Sea salt. It has a lot of minerals in it. Most people get a huge amount of salt from processed foods. If you are cutting out all the junk then your probably going to be cutting out a lot of your normal salt intake. Especially if you are just eating Vegetables and fruits. In fact, I think salt is actually good for you. Your body needs some of it to function. I just finished watching a video with Victor Conte(founder of Balco labs, major steroid distributor from 80-90's) and he was talking about how important salt is. He works with Athletes in MMA(Cung Le, Kyle Kingsbury). He does a lot of blood tests on them to make sure they're nutritional intake is appropriate. He checks for Vitamins, Minerals, and a bunch of other things I don't understand. Anyways, he mentioned Sea Salt. So don't give up salt, your body needs it. It is only bad if you overindulge.Yeah, I am definitely not going to be a life long vegan. At the very least, I will eat fish and occasional eggs. I am also giving up all sugar and salt, I don't think the benefit is enough to justify the cost overall. I am doing for 30 days just to see if I notice a difference in the way I feel. I am definitely going to lose some pounds, but I am more curious to see how I feel. I have pretty good energy now, and I am actually in very good health, despite being obese- all my numbers are good and I am in good condition. But the short term is just as a test phase. I want to commit to it, otherwise I won't do it. But I want to commit to something I can actually do (and would want to do).1 unit = 300 $Comment

Zak, I probably get 200-260 from protein powder a day.
And Scientist, not really..it's a lot of shit though but they are easy to push out. And no, I had to give up the BJJ/MMA training..it was actually going pretty well and then my new semester schedule hit me and it fucked that up. Basically, the only night I would be able to make it would be Wednesday nights (which would be just boxing) and I'd be around 30 minutes late. It really sucks because I found it a lot of fun.Comment
