I'm not sure I wouldn't get picked, but anecdotal evidence from physicists I know suggests that we tend to get weeded out in voir dire. I'm sure it's nowhere near as bad as being a trial lawyer though. I don't know how a defense attorney would get through unless it was a trial for battery against a black guy and the prosecutor wasted all his rejections on the half-dozen skinheads with swastika tattoos who showed up for jury selection.

well my friend was a not criminal attorney, he is general counsel for a sub-prime lender. Still, I was really surprised he got on the jury. Usually, one of the lawyers will use a strike to rid the jury of a lawyer. A physicist... I don't know that I would strike you off just because of that, it would depend what you said in voir dire. The general wisdom is that you want blue collar types, but IME the more educated people are more willing to go against the herd mentailty (which is almost always chomping at the bit to convict). But if you have a jury full of stay at home moms and factory workers, one physicist on the jury can make or break the verdict, they would likely follow whatever you decided. That said, you get some really opinionated people who think they are going to crack the case from the jury box sometimes... so it is really hard to tell. I try to find someone with an independent streak that can also work within our defined parameters, so a scientist would be ideal IMO.

IME short guys think a lot more about their height than everyone else. I have a good friend that is 5'7, he has always done really well with the ladies, but he is constantly concerned about the fact that he is 5'7, which I don't even consider short. My brother in law is 5'1, and I really don't even think anything about his height, but he is a basket case.

I saw a dude at the gym yesterday who only came up to my throat . . . or maybe my chin if he was standing totally straight. I genuinely felt bad for that dude.

I think that if you're 5'6" or taller that you're still close enough to average height to get away with it without too many social consequences, but any shorter than that and there are problems. And the shorter you go, the bigger those problems get.

Poopoo, let me ask you something. When I was 17 and weighed 160#, I had never deadlifted in my life... but we had to test for football. I deadlifted 400, and I feel like I probably could have done more. Am I just freakishly strong at deadlifting, or did I just not care about my back or form and would probably get hurt if I tried it again? At the time, I could only bench about 185 and squat maybe 300. I have never tried to deadlife a lot of weight since that day 17 years ago, though I will do it for reps sometimes. I walk around with the understanding that I could deadlift 500 pounds without any training whatsoever... am I lying to myself or am I badass?

Some people are just naturally strong at deadlifting, whether it's due to their leverages (usually tall kind of lanky body, long arms, etc) or if they are just a badass. You should try to deadlift 500 tonight, and let us know how it goes.

I do have monkey arms and short legs. I am torso man. That probably helps. I am going to the gym tonight, so I will deadlift and report back. I will have to build up to it though, because my shoulder is still recovering, I will have to see how it holds up.

Yeah, lockout until the judge says "down". So at a meet I would just hold it until told to put it down

A heterosexual man in Denver claims that a Best Buy employee wrongly "outed" him on Facebook after he left his phone for repair.

Rich Dewberry said he brought in his mobile device to get fixed and was given a new phone. Shortly afterward, his Facebook status read, "I am gay, I'm coming out."

"The phone just started ringing constantly after that from [an] ex-spouse to friends," he told ABC's Denver affiliate, KMGH.

Dewberry said he was logged into his Facebook account on the phone he left with the store.

"I feel I have been humiliated. My reputation has been tarnished," he said.

"Just having to explain it to certain people that I haven't been in contact for a while," he said. "I feel I shouldn't have to do that."

Dewberry filed a complaint with the store, which told him the employee was fired, he said. Best Buy provided a statement to KMGH:

"Each year, every employee of Best Buy is asked to review and sign our Code of Ethics, which includes details on how they are expected to handle customer information."

Dewberry told KMGH he is exploring his legal options with an attorney.

The company did not return a request for comment.

Yes, but a lot of "stubborn" people are also stupid. I don't want stupid people. It is not as easy as most people think it would be to pick good jurors. I thought I would be great at picking juries, but after interviewing the jury post verdict, I have found that I am (was, since I don't do trial work any more) almost always way off base.
