An idea for an MMA contest – IWS Grand Prix

-We will seed everyone who is in according to the MMA tracker and play it out over a few events in Grand Prix fashion.

How will we play out the tourney?

Lets take an MMA event, Ill use UFC 143 for an example:

Take all the lines that are relatively close on the card like:

    Werdum -145
    Nelson +115

Each guy picks 3 fights. The tie breakers can be something like:

-first tie breaker, what round does the main event end
-second tie breaker, how does the main event end (sub, ko, decision)

Winner moves to the next round, loser gets the fuck out. I was thinking lets do a dry run with no money involved just for bragging rights and just to work out any kinks so to speak.

Like it? Dislike it? Thoughts? Additions? Subtractions? Go fuck yourself?

That would be pretty sweet. Unfortunately I'm not in the tracker though.. I could face someone in a wildcard/alternates match maybe. So in case someone dies halfway through the tournament or something I could take their place.

We could probably just make anyone who is not on the tracker the lowest seeds in the tourney.

              I'll do it.

I am already giving up hope on Svino's contest.

I'm not familiar with the concept of "seeding". . .

Think of your March Madness brackets. The best player historically gets the #1 seed. The #1 seed is at the top of the bracket. The #2 seed is at the bottom. The whole thing is set up until the 2 best players dont' have to play until the finals. If there is an odd number of players, the highest seed gets a bye in the first round. I don't agree with that in this contest though.

My post above assumes you are being serious. If y ou were joking- fuck you.

I was being serious and I really don't know anything about March Madness brackets. But the way you're describing it to me, it sounds just like a single elimination tournament. And if that's the case, then what's the point of "seeding" except for the one thing you mentioned about the top guy getting a pass?

It is a single elimination tourney, the only difference is that the pairings are not random. It is the best guy against the worst guy (me incidentally), 2nd best guy against 2nd worst guy, and so on... working toward the middle, so if there 16 seeds, the 8 would battle the 9, the 7 against the 10...

But yeah, I don't know how much sense it makes for this contest, other than it is a way other than at random to set the pairings. I don't think anyone on the site would would bothered by playing the #1 seed, or have any extra confidence playing the lowest seed.

                            Bulz

Anyway, the seeding from the tracker is just really so we can set up person A vs Person B.
