I don't think Stann's wrestling is that bad. It's just bad against guy like Sonnen. Bisping had a really hard time getting Stann down and Bisping's wrestling is underrated, I think.

Yes it does. It explains the sternocleidomastoids are the only thing supporting the chin/neck in the event of a landed punch. Like any, muscle that is put under constant stress it will begin to wear down over time when abused. This would allow your head to snap to one side more and with less resistance when a punch lands, ergo increasing the chances that the brain will slam against the cranium and shut down temporarily because of it.

Muscles wear down because they're not worked. It seems to me that fighters chins would actually get better, because those muscles are worked more.

Except the brain isn't a muscle and doesn't get better by being smacked around. And some muscles don't get better over time, especially ones that get overworked like these small and unsupported muscles here that get put up against lats and shoulders and biceps and triceps and quads, some of the largest and most powerful in the body.

Not all muscles become weak just from not being worked. The average 55 year old can't compete with the average 25 year old because point blank the body structures are not working at optimal performance anymore. Most 55 year olds can work out 6 hours a day and still not get the results the average 20 something might get out of half that. Shit just doesn't function up to par after a while, especially when you've spent the majority of your adult life being punched and kicked in the face.

Yes, I know body mechanics kind of stuff is your thing. I'm not hating. You do have some interesting insight on the subject.

Opening Odds: Brian Stann (-175) vs. Wanderlei Slva (+145)

At those odds, I'd have to take Hunt, but I'll likely just stay away from that fight. If Hunt were more like +200 then I'd be on him.

And I like Stann to win, but not at -175. Too high.

Struve has been getting better but hunts takedown defense is pretty good and he really packs the heat.

I'll take Hunt at + odds. Struve could sub him obviously, but Hunt is going to KO him.

Yeah. Struve is probably the more SKILLED MMAist, but Hunt could knock his ass out an any time. No bet for me.
