I am not sure if you are implying that I don't sound important or that I want to sound important. Either way- fuck you bitch.2012: +19.33

Screw these international politics and their agendas. Well, what was left of wrestling just died, but MMA is going to see an influx of wrestlers now, really good ones. In the past, the wrestlers in MMA are not truly the very best ones we have... but starting 2021, we are probably going to see the best wrestlers coming to MMA. I really don't understand how or why they would cut wrestling... probably because no one watches it and they do have other "world championships"... but I think it is one of only like 3 sports that has been in every single olympics ever.2012: +19.33

It seems like there are so many other little sports that no one ever watches that would go first. Like curling. Or trampoline. I wonder what the new sport is that's going to be brought in. Hopefully Karate, but I doubt it since TKD is still in.
Personally, I think they should add like 10 or 15 MORE sports. I can think of plenty of shit that's not represented that would be cool.
BTW, why would we wait until 2021 to get all these super-wrestlers if wrestling is not in the 2020 games?I heart cockComment

Oh, I thought 2020 was the last games for wrestling. I guess we will only have to wait until 2017. Hopefully more of the wrestlers from the middle east and Russia will get into MMA. I can't even think about Satiev in MMA... it would be like getting to see Cael Sanderson or Dan Gable in MMA (or Kyle Dake, David Taylor, Brent Metcalf... some of these super studs that have come out the last few years that would go the olympic route traditionally). Come to think of it, most of the really great wrestlers will probably stay in wrestling and coach NCAA teams. But we might get some of the Russian guys.
I read the article, apparently they looked at 39 different criteria from world wide popularity and participation to sponsorship and viewer numbers, and they cut wrestling. But everyone knows that the real reason they cut wrestling was to fuck all the eastern block countries... Russia just went from #2 or #3 to about #25 in terms of overall medals. Either way, they are talking about adding golf or baseball... basically adding a sport that is popular and will bring money, but the gold medal will be worth far less than an actual championship in the professional sport. To me, the olympics have always been about minor sports athletes finally getting a big stage, not about letting LeBron get more tv time so you can get more advertising dollars. It is so wrong.Last edited by MMA_scientist; 02-12-2013, 02:09 PM.2012: +19.33

Well I got my fingers crossed for karate but since there are already two other gi sports (TKD and judo) I'm sure it won't happen. A lot of people were assuming TKD would go and karate would take its place.I heart cockComment

Yeah, Karate is basically out because TKD stayed in. Wrestling can still get back in, and it will probably depend on who is hosting in 2020. I mean, can't they cut ribbon dancing, pistol shooting, horse dancing, or some other non-sport? I really don't get it. But maybe I am too invested in wrestling to understand.2012: +19.33

I think shooting sports are cool, but there is definitely some shit that should go before wrestling.
Here's the list:

Canoe/Kayak or Handball couldn't go? Or "hockey," whatever the fuck that is. . .I heart cockComment

"Equestrian- Dressage" is horse dancing. That would be first to go for me, I don't know wtf is going on there. After that would be Rhythmic Gymnatics, which is essentially ribbon dancing. I get that people like to watch it, but it is not a sport... and there are already like 40 gymnastic events. Sychronized swimming- absurd. Shooting to me... is not a sport, but whatevs, I like to see it in the decathlon. Most of the other ones aren't that bad. I would personally like to see golf and basketball out, but I guess people like them so much that they don't enough of them during their never ending season and coverage.2012: +19.33

I think the individual events are really considered "events." Gymnastics is the event . . . everything else are sub-events. Kind of like, for the purposes of this discussion, "wrestling" is the event, not Greco or freestyle.
Also, not sure why you think shooting isn't a sport.I heart cockComment

You point, you shoot... don't see the "sport" in it. I think darts is more of a sport than shooting. We've been through this before, I get that the definition of sport is flexible. If I don't consider the participant an athlete, I don't see how I can consider the game a sport. Do I think a fat guy squeezing one finger is doing athletic movements? No. I get that they have to be steady... but by that definition, I got a hell of a workout in last night playing the sport of "Operation" with my son.
You can make more of an argument for the clay pigeons and stuff, but a stationary target... no. Even with a moving target, it is a stretch IMO.2012: +19.33
