Yeah, I rode my 1997 hard tail mountain bike with 1.5 inches smooth tires for years. I used to commute to school on it (12 years ago) and I still use it (I turned it into a single speed about a year ago) for road riding and off road use. Personally, I think the fat knobbies are overkill unless it is pretty rough terrain. I have never needed to put the mountain tires back on it.

Speaking of touring on a mountain bike... if you have netflix, check out "Ride the Divide" it is a documentary about a 1200 mile mountain bike race along the continental divide. It makes you want to throw a tent on your pannier and ride off for a couple weeks

I haven't seen that many KO's. What I have seen there is some confusion about what happened, but their brains aren't usually that scrambled. FWIW, basically the same thing happens when you get choked out, you don't remember getting choked most of the time. They say getting choked out doesn't hurt you though.

Concussions generally result in memory loss regarding the surrounding time before and after the physical act that caused the concussion.

I've only had one bad concussion in my life (plenty of minor ones though, im sure). I don't remember much of anything before the slamming of my head nor anything for about an hour after the fact. I do think I remember what I did immeadiately after though for some reason. I don't know, its been a little while since it happened. Also, it messed me up for about a week or so after I got the concussion. Just depressed and getting headaches. Sucked.

Gotta imagine the older gracies wouldn't have been in such good health if the chokes were bad.

Same here. I was in a car wreck where I hit my head and remember nothing for about a 4 hour gap. Not only that, people said I was saying off the wall things the entire time........that's why this Torres video didnt really shock me

Why do people do that? I've never understood the motivation.

Well if you're running, running on a treadmill is a lot easier on your body than running on the street, so that is sometimes the reasoning. If I'm going to run, I can definitely handle it better on a treadmill. As for the stationary bike, I throw 20 minutes in after weight training. I don't think I'd go there just to do that specifically, though.

I definitely prefer cycling as far as enjoyment goes, though I don't have a bike right now and don't really have the money to buy one. But I think that running is probably better in terms of increasing my endurance (I get much more winded while running) and if I'm ever going to do a triathlon I have to be able to run.

That's pretty crazy. Gotta feel bad for Miguel. He reigned as champ over the WEC for fucking ever couldn't quite put it together in the UFC. Honestly, I think he got screwed a bit with the matchmaking. His only losses in the UFC were to Demetrious Johnson (and I thought he WON that fight) and Michael McDonald . . . both championship contenders. No shame in losing to them. Torres could've had a place in the UFC but it seems like they wanted him gone for some reason.

I can't remember his name--the guy who won by knockout via a thousand elbows to the head a little while ago--but he just said fuck it and quit recently because he did a bunch of research on concussions and didn't like what he came up with.

Yeah, that's him. Considering the timing, I have to wonder if that KO influenced his decision. He had to go back and watch that and say, GodDAMN!

Maybe. He did only fight one more time after that, and retired about ten months after knocking Sandoval the fuck out.

I did it because the deraulliers were shot and the bike is worth $50, but i like it. It is also fun for cruising and it is a good training tool.
