Bale= pretty good. I liked The Prestige. Machinist, I remember seeing, but all I recall about the movie is that he was rail thin... so the movie probably wasn't that good.
Fight Club= an all time classic, of course. I enjoyed the first half of the movie much more than the second half. It is almost like 2 different movies, it just down a really weird road and never returns. I wish it would have just been a musing on man-hood and introspection, kept it light, and stayed with that. I still like it in spite of the second half though.2012: +19.33

Yeah, The Prestige is great. It might be my favorite Christopher Nolan film. Probably is.
I may agree with your statement regarding the first half of the film vs the second half. I also think it probably would've been better if Tyler Durden had been a real person. Was the multiple personality thing really necessary? I don't even really get the point of it.Fight Club= an all time classic, of course. I get the whole multiple personalities deal, and I just took it that they were making a statement about the feminization and supressed manhood in modern America. Like we all have a real man somewhere wanting to get out, but instead we shop at IKEA (I love IKEA FWIW) and are giant pussy wage slaves. SO I get that. What I don't get is why the movie went down the crazy militia path. I think it would have been a better movie if they would have just drawn out the actual fight club part of the movie and focused on that, it was enough.2012: +19.33

Re: Equilibrium, I just couldn't get past "gun kata" as a concept. Too silly. Disbelief not suspended. And (spoiler alert) did anyone not see the ending coming? It's like, "You're not fooling anyone, guys -- we all know you can't shoehorn a new villain into this film in the time remaining."
I really liked some other Bale movies though, like The Prestige and the Nolan Batman series.Comment

As far as Fight Club goes, I did like the movie, but I also think it's overrated. I kind of agreed with a lot of the points in Ebert's 2 star (out of 5) review: http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/...IEWS/910150302
The problem with the movie is that it can't quite decide if it wants to be a condemnation of countercultural violent machismo or a celebration of it.Comment
