Yeah, I have often felt that with certain guys who take weight cutting to the extreme, it negates the purpose of weight classes. I mean, weight classes are to make sure that guys of similar size/weight fight each other. Like you say, to try to beat the system and gain such an extreme advantage by cutting loads of weight is almost like cheating.

what i dont get is why a professional fighter doesnt know this. even if he only planned to fight for a few years, cutting weight the way he did is never a good idea. In Rumble's case, Wouldnt it make more sense to start fighting at Middleweight instead of WElter? He can fight lower tier guys, hone his skills while not having to cut so much weight. Instead of using his size to defeat his opponents, which was pretty much what he did at welter, he shoulda fight at MW where he would have to use his skills to beat them. That would force him to train proper techniques, instead of relying on size. Then when he start beating higher level guys, and getting into title talks, by that time he would have acquired a good amount of skills to go with his athleticism and size advantage. Now if he then decides to cut weight and fight for title contention, he can still do it but it would probably be a lil less taxing since he wouldnt be fighting as often against the top guys. He cut weight to fight against guys he probably didnt need to cut weight to beat them and screw up his body.

Ive been reading about justin gaethje. He is 7-0 both as an amateur and a pro. Most of his pro fights are against guys with one or two fights with the exception of drew fickett who he knocket out in twelve secods. Fickett has been knocked out in six of his last seven fights.

He is going up against gz cavalcante. It seems like a huge step up in competetion. He has basically been righting cans now he is going up against a real pro with good wrestling. I might have to take cavalcante here. What do you guys think?
