It cant be the weigh spx. It just doesnt make sense. Without the weight cut there is less of a reason he should gas.

Well first off, I still have never heard a good argument for why cutting weight should hurt your cardiovascular system. I know it happens sometimes, more from just general exhaustion I assume, but I don't really get it.

But as for BJ, I suspect it may be a situation where you have to read between the lines. When he had to make 155, it may be that he was training harder in order to shed the weight, so he was in better cardio shape. When he would fight at 170, he was fighting about at his walkaround weight and wasn't really cutting much, if any at all (if I remember correctly, he'd usually weigh in around 167, BELOW the limit). Without the necessity to cut weight, he wouldn't train as hard, and there was in worse shape on fight day.

Thats a good point. I thout about it before i posted my last response but its just hard to see. I guess he could be so lazy that he wont train unless hehas to weight cut.

Really, it's probably a combination of factors. It's been suspected many times that BJ just doesn't like to train and doesn't do it nearly as much or as intensely as he should. But like you said before, the guys at 170 are bigger and harder to muscle around. I'm sure it all plays into it.

Fighting bigger guys makes you tire faster, I have experienced this myself grappling. It isn't all about BJ's weight, it is about have to push and resist 100% on every movement. Even if you are in shape, a bigger guy will make you fatigue faster.

Frankie has already beat him twice, and neither of those fights was very good. No idea why anyone wants a 3rd. If BJ is going to come out of "retirement" (as if anyone thought he was retired), he needs to fight someone else. But really, he should stay retired. I agree that he is still probably top 10, but it is all relative, he was once considered the PFP best... so I don't think squeezing into the top 10 is admirable

If bj showed up in ben henderson condition he would be super impressive at 155. I think he would beat a lot of top guys. Its kind of ironic but 145 pounds is probably the appropriate weight class for him. He weighed in at about 165 or so for his 170 fights. He could easily add five to ten pounds of muscle and cut to 155 if he wanted.

I guess we see things differently. If you're a top 10 fighter then that means you're pretty damn great, even if you used to be #1. We need to cut these guys some slack. Sports fans' attitude is so shitty. If you rise to the top, and become great, then you're a bum if you don't stay great forever. Is it not okay to just be really good?

I could see bj beating a lot of them and being competitve with them all. I think pettis would give bj a lot of trouble.

I think we would all feel really differently about BJ if he had not taken all those fights at 170 after losing to Edgar the second time . . . or if he had been given the win over Edgar the first time, as he should've been.

I don't think he is a bum... but I just don't care to see a lesser version of the old BJ. Really though, my problem is with this specific fight. There are so many fights for him, why have him fight Edgar again, it wasn't like the first 2 fights were epic battles. They were both pretty boring fights IMO.
