Aleksander Emelianenko lost two teeth while FIGHTING A BULL on a game show

Until technology gets to the point where I can hear every language in the world translated through my iPhone while I ride shotgun on my friend's Mattell Hoverboard, I'm going to settle for Google Translator while I travel from one corner of the room to the other in this Wal-Mart rollie chair.

It looks like during a Russian game-show called 'Big Races' (which is shot in France), Aleksander Emelianenko participated in a competition with a bull to see if he was more of a 'beast' than an actual beast. Not sure on the exact details of the contest, but from what I understand, it involved a no-rules match that somehow included urine.

In the end of the competition, the bull stepped on Aleksander's face and knocked out two of his teeth. From the reports, the studio was literally filled with blood and Alek was rushed to a local French hospital to insert his two teeth which he apparently picked up after the incident. Keep in mind, this is the same guy who hunts bears with knives.

It looks like the studio covered all insurance cost after the incident which would make complete sense if they actually though pitting a human versus a bull in a competition was a good idea

Just safety, I guess, and a recognition that it's a sport for people with day jobs and not professional fighters.

IIRC, the Japanese fighter Royce beat in the first round of UFC 2 was a Daido Juku guy.

According to this post. . .

                    . . . you're correct.

I assume that Daido Juku has evolved signicantly since then but an interesting fact nonetheless.

Went and saw Inception today. A complete mindfuck of a movie, but awesome. It's one of the best movies that I've seen not only this year, but period. It does get confusing at times, though, trying to hold together the concept of a dream within a dream within a dream.

                      Definitely worth the admission price.

In case anyone's interested, I have two articles in this month's issue of Ultimate MMA

                        1. An article on the scoring system with a Q&A with Keith Kizer and two other commissioners.

                        2. An article on Greg Bayne's documentary about Jens Pulver that I've mentioned before. Basically a Q&A with both guys.

You can read the beginning of the scoring the article on the UMMA website:

Thanks. Yeah, I seem to be on the road to becoming a bona fide "regular contributor" for them and I'm very thankful for that.

They've already got another article completed waiting in the wings. It's about the Christian MMA scene and the role faith plays in some fighters' lives. I got to talk to Ben Henderson, Justin Wren and the "Fight Pastor" Brandon Beals for that one.

I'm also working on three (potentially 4) articles right now for them: 1) a profile of Gerald Harris (already talked to Harris a couple of times setting this one up; should be doing a formal interview this week or the next), 2) an article on up-and-coming female fighters, 3) the one about the MMA orgs I mentioned in the other thread, and maybe 4) something with Cris Cyborg, but still trying to figure out exactly what we want to do on that one.

To answer your other question: Don't know yet. Apparently there was a mix up with the paper work so I have to wait until the next pay cycle (which should go off any day now) to get paid. I didn't have my W-9 or contract filled out and sent in (no one told me I needed to up until I finally asked about a paycheck and then they were all like "oh shit, have you done this and this and this?"). So at this point, it's just like money's accumulating, but I do know that their standard rate per article is somewhere between $200 and $450. So it'll be somewhere in that range.

It's kind of shitty, though. The magazine's a lot nicer than the website.

As far as writing as a job, it's hard work. It's not all fun and games. Getting to talk to the guys is cool, but transcribing interviews sucks ultra mega cock and the actual writing process can be pretty grueling. It's always a relief when I finish a piece and get it sent in. Kind of like a weight off my shoulders.
