Let's discuss Lil Nog/Bader. I am torn on this fight
If not for the Brilz fight, I would say Lil' Nog for sure. However, with that fight his stock undoubtedly dropped a little.
Bader will probably be able to take Nog down, but will he be reluctant to do so because of Nog's BJJ? And even if not, Bader struggled to take Jardine down, though Jardine does have good TDD.
On the feet Bader might bring more power, but I have to believe that Nog's technical boxing will be better. The way he put Cane away was pretty impressive. He also TKOd the Janitor not too long ago, though the fight was pretty even up to that point.
My new rule: When in doubt, bet the dog. So Nog @ +150: Just dropped .75u to win 1.23u.
Nog, while gassed, can sweep a wrestler pretty easily from the bottom. But Bader is not Brilz. He is bigger, stronger, and a better wrestler then Brilz. I don't remember Nog threatening Brilz from the bottom at all, I only remember choke attempts in scrambles (Nog was caught in a guillotine as well in one). Nog does not have the best TDD, and I am sure Bader will be able to take Nog down pretty easily...I think it's safe to say Bader has a great chance at winning 2 rounds based on his usual game...but Bader tends to get tired as well in his fights. In the Schafer fight it was understandable...he basically punched himself out (like Carwin did against Brock). He was definitely slowing down against Jardine in the 3rd. Technically on the feet Nog is better, but I think Bader can stifle the sub game of Nog, especially if he can take him down and control him against the cage.
I am leaning Bader, but I don't like the odds at all on this fight. At the current line I would probably take Nog, but everytime I bet against a wrestler I lose .
You could very well be right. I would not at all be surprised to see Bader win. I think he probably will, but I'm for damn sure not certain about that at all, and so laying cash at -180 just isn't going to happen.
I think Nog at +150 or no bet is the best way to go, but if someone felt confident enough to put their money on Bader then I wouldn't call them stupid.
Rumors of Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic's possible scratch from next week's UFC 119 event aren't true, according to the UFC's head honcho.
A report from the Croatian site Index.hr stated that Filipovic suffered an eye injury while training and couldn't get medical clearance for the upcoming fight.
However, in a Twitter message, UFC president Dana White today stated Filipovic "is fine" and that the report "is not true."
UFC 119 takes place Sept. 25 at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Filipovic (27-7-2 MMA, 4-3 UFC) vs. Mir (13-5 MMA, 11-5 UFC) headlines the pay-per-view portion of the show.
Filipovic, in fact, is an injury replacement for Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, who pulled out of the Mir fight in August to undergo surgery.
Although "Cro Cop" is good to go for next week's show, he recently hinted that his days as a fighter could be numbered. In a recent media call promoting the event, the PRIDE veteran hinted that his retirement could come at anytime.
"I always tell people ... it could be any fight," Filipovic said. "I tell them it could be the last one. This is a hard sport, (and) this is a brutal sport, and any new injury – especially because I turned 36 a few days ago – would definitely take me out of competition. In my age, with my experience (and) so many fights on my back, it would be hard to start over again (with) some rehabilitation."
