Despite Broken Face, Vera Still Doesn't Buy the Jones Hype

Brandon Vera will likely be on the shelf until the end of the year or early 2011 after Jon Jones broke his orbital bone with elbows at UFC on Versus 1 in March and despite the injury, Vera had some ballsy comments about the up and coming light heavyweight fighter:

"During the fight I remember thinking, ‘Man, really? All the hype was about this guy?’ I specifically remember saying to him in my head, ‘Man, you (expletive) suck.’ Right when the ‘k’ came out in my head, I got blasted. It’s hard for me to say because he beat me, but I still don’t believe the hype. I like Jon Jones as a fighter, but I owe that (expletive). He’s definitely not coming to my house for Christmas.... I’m still babying [the broken face], but it’s getting better. At one point, I couldn’t even touch it. December or January is when I’m looking to come back. I test my face every day to see what I can get away with."

He was one of the most over-hyped fighters the UFC machine has ever created. And yet, he sucks balls. Somehow he has the stones to shit on someone else's hype train... go away. Jones has proved that he is the real deal.

I personally do not think he is a future champion, but he would whup Vera's ass again (this from a guy that thought Vera would beat him).

I think he could beat shogun because his takedown D is not very good. I hear a lot about shoguns BJJ but I don't really know how good it is. I think he would have a harder time with Machida though.

I really don't agree that his BJJ is the best part of his game. Best in what sense? Because he has only won one fight by submission.

You've only seen his UFC fights haven't you? He's taken down every fighter he's ever fought. He only stood with Machida because he couldn't get him down. Shogun is a ground fighter.
