It's right in the beginning of the video. The knife is electrified so when it touches you it burns which simulates a real knife.

No, not really. I mean, probably 80% of guys that show up to train think they are going to beat everyone's ass. I know I thought I was going to whup some ass. The combatives guys just tend to think they know more than they do. Like they tend to think they know how to do an armbar from mount, which is the first thing you do at my school. But they don't know how, they never know how. But they have also usually rolled with someone that can beat them, so they sort of know it is not as easy as it looks and respect it. As opposed to most guys who think beacuse they can beat thier buddies at grab ass, and watch some UFC, that they know what is up. I am not making fun, because I thought I knew what was up too. I just thought because I had wrestled and done some judo I was going to whup ass. I got submitted a lot when I first started (and still do), including the standard ego busting submission by the guys that weigh 130. No one is immune, that is what I love about it. I don't care if you are the biggest baddest dude on the planet, you WILL tap and be humbled when you first start training. Some really big guys can get their defense up really fast though, like in months. That is why I like wrestling more than bjj at HW.

Yeah, that was a cool video. Unsurprisingly, it looked to me like they all got "cut" several times, and the knife-users were playing it fairly passively, not going all-out for murder.

Do you remember that (army?) close-combat instructor in "Joes vs. Pros" who Couture tapped out like 5 times in a few minutes "Bully Beatdown" style?

yes, and I think that guy was an actual instructor.

As for teh knife fight, at first I was wondering why the guy didn't just start wailing on him, but it looks like Fitch would probably have disarmed him quickly if he let go with one hand.

Fitch was stabbing the shit out of that dude.

He's also got a career ahead of him doing voice-over narratives. He's like a white Morgan Freeman.

I've actually looked into the Army Combatives stuff before and I think it's pretty cool.

Is it going to make you a master MMA fighter? Obviously not. But as what it is--a basic system of combat that you can learn in a matter of months--it's solid and for damn sure better than nothing.

Tim Kennedy sends his regards, BTW.

Oh, and as for the Army Combatives manual, I really have to wonder what genius thought it was a good idea to use black-and-white photos of guys wearing camouflage to illustrate grappling positions.

Does anybody here think Condit/Lytle won't go the distance? -145 for the fight going the distance looks good to me. I don't see any of them finishing

I think it's very possible that fight doesn't go the distance.

I do think it will be difficult to either guy to finish the other as both guys have most finishes via sub, and neither guy has been subbed much (Lytle has never been subbed in his career), but they're both skilled in that regard and they both also clearly have the ability to knock guys out, too.

I guess -145 isn't bad for that prop, but when I think of fights that have little chance of not going to a decision, this isn't one that really comes to mind.

condit finishes like 90 percent of his fights. Lytle is crafty though so I wouldn't be suprised to see it go the distance. I won't be betting it though.

agreed, both guys are damn near impossible to finish. I cannot see Condit finishing Lytle at all. Maybe Lytle could finish Condit, but I think you are right, I am going to make that bet
