Yeah, Jorgensen's only chance is if he can get Cruz to the mat imo. Benavidez couldn't do it, not sure if Jorgensen can either.

I agree, he will have to consistantly get him down and keep him down. and I just do not see him doing it. I actually think Jorg. will spend more time on his back in this match up.

Jorg is a pretty good wrestler but a good bit smaller than Cruz. It kinda reminds me of the Cruz-Benavidez matchup.

Jorgensen is a better wrestler then Benavidez. Does anybody think Jorgensen will be able to get Cruz to the ground? I think it will be somewhat competitive on the feet, but Cruz definitely has the advantage imo. I am really surprised Cruz doesn't have a higher line, maybe it is because he won a split decision in his last fight against a similar opponent (whatever judge had that fight for Benavidez is a moron)?

Yeah Cruz clearly won that fight. Does anyone here think Jorg can outwrestle Cruz? Jorg finished in the top 12 in the NCAA (according to wiki).

I think Cruz wins this one and then fights Faber, which he may or may not win.

But no, I don't really think Jorgensen does anything better than Cruz. Cruz has actually done a pretty good job of rolling through all his opponents at 135 without a whole lot of trouble. Jorgensen has struggled a bit with a few of his.

Thinking about Cruz now too... Jorgenson is the most accomplished wrestler Cruz has had to face though. With it being a 5 rounder though, I don't think Jorgenson will be able to work his gameplan for 3 of those rounds. Based on Jorgenson's effort against Pickett, I doubt he can hodl Cruz down for any length of time.

I have come to the conclusion that accomplishments in wrestling mean VERY little inside the cage. Especially when you have ample evidence that the fighter with those accomplishments has not transitioned into the cage.

Jorg has showed that he is a good grappler inside the cage, but nothing super special. He actually seems to have a hard time controlling guys, guys at a lower level than Cruz.

Someone said earlier that Jorg. is the better wrestler than Benavidez. I disagree, he may have the better pedigree, but in the cage, I think Joe is the better wrestler.

Jorg is a good fighter, pretty quick and is fun to watch. But what makes him fun is that his fights are close, and he takes damage. And I think he takes damage in this fight...Lots of it.

While I generally agree, Benevidez has not had to fight any other wrestlers (aside from Cruz) or even guys that really contest the takedown. I would say Benevidez has fought tougher overall comp, but he has fought a lot of bjj guard players (Yahya, Torres, Fabiano) while Jorgenson has had more wrestlers and guys that contest the takedown (Pickett, Banuelos, Miz)...

I agree that Benevidez is the better grappler overall, but Jorgenson may still have better takedowns than Benevidez (maybe not, it is hard to tell with the guys Benevidez has fought). Although, I am still doubting he can take Cruz down. My concern is that we are going to suddenly discover that we have been basing our assessment of Cruz' takedown defense on only Benevidez. But he did beat Valencia who was a D1 wrestler as well (but I never saw that fight).

Nevermind, sold myself on Cruz. Probably going to go 3u

Went back and looked at Cruz's fights with wrestlers. He was able to stuff Benevidez, he stuffed Valencia, and he took Faber down (into a guillotine). He has this. 3u on Cruz to use his length to win a decision.

The only way I hoestly see Jorg. beating Cruz is the same way Faber did. Jorg has a very good giullotine, and cruz still likes to go for quick takedowns off of exchanges.
