When I had Rambo put to sleep, it was about $170. I'm going to a different vet now though and they tend to be a little cheaper on things, so I'm hoping that's the case here, too.


Yeah. You can't keep rats caged up all the time. Most experts agree that they should be let out to explore a larger area at least an hour a day, so I stick to that. When they get older (like Rampage) and stop chewing the shit out of my baseboards and electrical cords then I'll just leave the cage door open all the time and let them come and go as they please. At that stage of their lives they mostly just sleep, though.

$170? I can see for a dog, because they are hard to kill, you actually have to shoot them. But for a rat, pretty sure I would just dig him a little hole and whack him with a shovel... he isn't going to feel it any more than the shot and it is free.

But then again, I am not really an animal person. To me they are just giant pains in the ass. I have a dog and he pisses me off everyday with his licking his balls all the time and eating my food and tracking mud all over. When he is ready to go, I am not spending any money keeping him alive. I will be sad, but he is going to get shot in the head and dumped in a field. For the record, my wife just brought him home one day, I was opposed from the beginning. Had I signed up for it, I might be a little more caring.

I recommend... but I never read the book so it will probably disappoint. I also watched the documentary on Chris McCandless, which I recommend after you watch the movie, because it will ruin the movie, basically challenging the premise of McCandless' death. It is called "Call of the Wild" by Ray Lamothe

I agree... if I am not into, I just turn it off. I don't get sucked in. I was watching "Ghost Writer" and I heard it was a great movie... but it didn't get my interest, I made it about 30 minutes before I said fuck it. Cool Hand Luke does not pay off until the end... it definitely does not suck you in, but it has a lot of memorable quotes and it is a somewhat famous movie, so any movie buff probably should watch it just to be in the conversation.

I heard the same about Ghost Writer. I do want to check it out.

I will probably have to go ahead and watch Cool Hand Luke eventually. I do try to hit up a classic every now and then for the reason you mentioned.

In all honesty, I have considered buying a pellet gun just for that purpose. My reasoning is the same: It will be quick and painless. But I just don't think I could do it myself. They're my little friends, after all.

Oh, and if I remember correctly that $170 included a mandatory check-up fee and an emergency fee since I had to rush him in.

I thought you were the chill-in-real-life person who didn't get worked up about shit?

I think that, generally speaking, dogs are great. I've always loved dogs and that's what I would've gotten if my apartment wasn't the size of a large public restroom.

As far as animals go, I like dogs. And he is fun sometimes, but definitely not worth the trouble and expense for me. I have all the companions I need, the dog adds nothing to my life except expense and work. I suppose if I could take some solace in the fact that I am providing for a dog that was going to die (got him from the humane society), but I don't care enough about animals to really care. Dogs die everyday, I have reconciled myself with that.

I think I will be able to stuff his carcass in a bag though, as long as I can wad him up in the tarp without having to look at his cold dead eyes.
