Technique aside, the whole thing is pretty funny. The way he is screaming and acting a fool, you would never guess he was an actual MMA figher. He acts like one of those self defense guys. Those self-defense entusiasts are the worst.2012: +19.33

Change of plans, I did not realize they had Pankration at the Arnolds. I am skipping the bjj tourney and I am doing the Pankration tourney. I have been wanting to one of these forever, but they are never around.
FYI, Pankration = mma but the fights are short. This is a class b tourney, no strikes to the head. http://www.fightleague.org/
The only issue is making weight. The bjj tourney weight class is 205, which I can make. The Pankration class is 198, which means I will have to cut. It goes from 198 to 242, no way I am fighting a 242 pounder.
I haven't trained striking at all in probably 10 years, and even then, it was limited and I am not good at it. If I can't get takedowns, I am going to get the shit kicked out of my legs. Should be funny though. I will have vids.2012: +19.33

Oh, I'm sure he trained quite a bit since the fight with Royce. There was a ringside interview with him in one of the UFC events where he talked about how he came into it not taking "martial arts" very seriously, but that the fight had opened his eyes and now he was training. He had also shaved the pony tail that Royce grabbed effectively.
No way to be sure, but the fight with Sakuraba is one of the most commonly cited "works" in MMA history. The old Sherdog FAQ called it a work but I don't know if there's proof. (Sakuraba says it was, Kimo says it wasn't.)

Submissions allowed but no strikes to the head? Short fights? It's like a universe where Palhares is God. I also see they only allow 5 minutes of "bleed time" for each fighter, which was funny to me for some reason. Bring your superglue.FYI, Pankration = mma but the fights are short. Do they use same day weigh-ins or 24 hours before? The only issue is making weight. The bjj tourney weight class is 205, which I can make. The Pankration class is 198, which means I will have to cut.
You'd better train your side-check-kick.I haven't trained striking at all in probably 10 years, and even then, it was limited and I am not good at it. If I can't get takedowns, I am going to get the shit kicked out of my legs. Should be funny though. I will have vids.
Anyway, good luck bro.Comment

Weigh ins are the night before or the morning of, so at most it is abouy 15 hours before the comp starts. I could make 198, I have been as low as 175 in the last 12 months... but I just don't want to cut. I have not trained hard, I wasn't even sure I was going to compete. I was primarily just going up there to mess around, watch the arm wrestling, see Lou Ferignou, and catch the SF card and maybe get some mat time in. I am going to fight the big guys. A little more difficult to take down, but I think I can handle the weight.
Thanks.2012: +19.33

I will post a vid win lose or draw. It is probably going to be funny. My gameplan is to not throw a strike at all. Maybe if I stuck in a position while passing, I will throw some rib shots, or if turtles I will throw some knees to the body. But my goal is submit everyone without having to punch them.2012: +19.33
