How do you make money on something that is already at its highest price ever? You know where things go from the top...............down.Gold and Silver WOULD have been a good investment had you invested when the economy went to shit around 2008 but they have skyrocketed since then. You missed the boat, move on.

Anyone here have thoughts on westerns?
I have grown fond of modern incarnations of the genre . . . not so much older ones.
Tombstone is the greatest. But I also liked Unforgiven, The Quick and the Dead, the 3:10 to Yuma remake, Appaloosa, Ride with the Devil, The Assassination of Jesse James and probably a few others that I can't think of right now.I heart cockComment

I've played a couple "escape the room" games, which I think are sort of similar, but simpler.Hidden Object games . . . where you have to go around in a game and find shit and solve other puzzles.

The "new" westerns are all actual good movies fir the most part. The True Grit remake was solid, I liked that a lot. Unforgiven is good. 3:10 to Yuma I thought was good. Tombstone was full of great lines and i like it a lot, but it is a little different than the others in that it was more of a popcorn flick than the others...
The Quick and the Dead is kind of funny, I don't think I would say it was "good" though. It is cheesy on purpose which makes it watchable.
I know a lot of people like "The Assassination of Jesse James" but I just couldn't get into it. Didn't care for it.
I wouldn't lump "No Country" in there though, it is not really a western. Young Guns, I haven't seen in probably 15 years, so I can't really recall.2012: +19.33

I thought True Grit was decent. Another one I'd throw into the "decent" category is The Missing.
Kind of. I would at least agree that it has a different tone and feel. But I love it. In fact, it's the movie that got me interested in the entire genre. Growing up I was always like fuck all that John Wayne, Sergio Leone kind of bullshit, but when I saw Tombstone I really loved it and started to watch other films in the genre. Now I pretty much see every new Western that comes out. 3:10 to Yuma, Appaloosa, True Grit. . . I saw all those in the theater.
BTW, Val Kilmer is a fucking boss in that movie.
It was certainly an unconventional take on the western. I liked it though, for what it was. Not sure that I'd go out of my way to see it again, but it was fun the first time around.
This is another one that I loved. I can understand why not everyone loves it--it's a bit slow, too long, and just not at all a conventional Hollywood film--but I thought the cinematography, performances, script, and just overall vibe of the film were pretty entrancing. And I don't use that word lightly . . . when I first watched that movie I was really just pulled into and captivated.
It totally bombed at the box office though, which sucks, because from what I understand it was something of a passion project for Brad Pitt (one of the most underrated ACTORS of our day) and I like to see people get rewarded for going outside the box like that.I heart cockComment

What, no "Cowboys and Aliens"!?Anyone here have thoughts on westerns?

Most of the good recent Westerns have been mentioned, but I'll also throw out the 80's movie Silverado as a good example of a lighter western (written by Lawrence Kasdan).I remember liking Open Range but it was a while ago and I can't recall many details from the movie.
While not an American western, The Good, the Bad, and the Weird was a pretty fun action movie with a Western feel. I recommend that one. I also recently watched Meek's Cutoff. Do not watch Meek's Cutoff.Comment

You know, I was seriously pumped for Cowboys and Aliens, but it just wasn't all that. One of my biggest cinematic disappointments of the year. Daniel Craig was bad ass in it, though. And it was Harrison Ford's best role in years.
Fuck Kevin Costner.
I've been wanting to check that one out.I heart cockComment
