Race of the Week: $1M Stephen Foster at Churchill Downs | Sat.

    June 25, 2025 | By Jeremy Plonk

    The Lead:
Closing weekend of the Churchill Downs Spring Meet features a 2024 Kentucky Derby 1-2 rematch in the $1 million Stephen Foster. That's headliner to a 6-stakes card that leads into Sunday's meet finale program with a mandatory payout in the jackpot pick 6 that could be 7 figures if unsolved this week.

Horseplayers with 1/ST BET and Xpressbet can take part in the $7,500 Hit & Split promotion Saturday for Churchill Downs that includes a trio of multi-race bet sequences.

    Field Depth:
Grade 1 winners SIERRA LEONE, MYSTIK DAN, MINDFRAME and HIT SHOW have won some of the game's biggest races. Grade 2 winners FIRST MISSION and SKIPPYLONGSTOCKING provide depth in the 7-horse field.

    Pace:
None of these are committed pacesetters, but tactical speed is obvious from FIRST MISSION, MINDFRAME and SKIPPYLONGSTOCKING. They're drawn 1-2-3 and should dictate the fractions in what should be a fair pace over 1-1/8 miles.

    Our Eyes:
    Here are my horse-by-horse notes.

#1-FIRST MISSION: Set the tempo in last year's Foster and may do so again from the rail. Improving on that fourth-place finish seems a tall task given how much tougher this year's field is than last. He's freshened since April and coming off arguably a career-best effort in the Oaklawn Handicap over this distance. Won the Alysheba and missed by a nose in the Clark over a track he obviously likes.

#2-MINDFRAME: Back-to-back victories around 1 turn have opened a promising 4-year-old campaign for last year's late-blooming Belmont runner-up. Prevailed in the race of the year so far last out in the Churchill Downs Stakes to run his local mark to 2-for-2. As long as he doesn't end up between horses for an extended period, he should get a good trip under Irad Ortiz Jr. and rates a major threat.

#3-SKIPPYLONGSTOCKING: Chased First Mission in this race a year ago and held slightly better than that one for third. His 2025 form looks every bit as solid as he's canvassed the country in well-spotted fashion. This is the rare big bite of the apple that hasn't panned out for him in the past. Irad jumps to ride Mindframe, leaving brother Jose Ortiz the mount. Could be a no-lead, no-pass situation that's difficult to project a winning result.

#4-SIERRA LEONE: Late-running sort missed last year's Kentucky Derby by a nose in his only race over the track but more than made amends in winning the Breeders' Cup Classic. Absolutely flat return in the New Orleans Classic in March and returns 2-1/2 months later with a well-spaced workout tab that offers typical Chad Brown modesty in terms of times. Note his Risen Star win and BC Classic win came off similar breaks. Doesn't own any major BRIS late pace figure edge on the top players here to be able to spot them 6-8 lengths and blow past with assurance.

#5-MYSTIK DAN: The 2024 Kentucky Derby winner and Preakness runner-up was poorly managed this winter with an unnecessary van ride from New Orleans to Los Angeles to compete in the 7-furlong Malibu. Then was sent to Gulfstream for the Pegasus World Cup off an effort that he got nothing out of at Santa Anita. Kenny McPeek recalibrated with some time off and sensibly returned on Derby Day at Oaklawn in a listed stakes to get this one back on the beam. He's responded with 2 straight good efforts, including a Churchill win in the local prep, the Blame, to improve to 3-for-4 over the track. He should get first run on the deeper closers, Sierra Leone and Hit Show, and likely saves every inch of ground under Brian Hernandez Jr.

#6-HIT SHOW: Enigmatic 2025 season saw him not pick up a hoof in the Santa Anita Handicap, but then storm home to win the Dubai World Cup in a nearly $7 million payday. Florent Geroux obviously fits him like a glove, winning 5 straight times when paired together and 6 of their last 7. Workout tab has been pinpoint perfect since returning to serious training in early May with an eye on this race. He won the 2024 Lukas Classic over this track and distance in September. More appealing price than Sierra Leone among the late-running threats.

#7-ASHCROFT: Bas Nicholls saddles this D. Wayne Lukas trainee that was new to the barn in May. Longshot will have sentimental support as Lukas was forced to step away from his 57-year career earlier this week due to serious health reasons. He's been off the board in all 4 stakes attempts and that likely continues.

    Most Likely Exotics Contender:
MINDFRAME is 6-6 in the exacta and has won both local starts (around 1 turn and 2).

    Best Longshot Contender:
No big prices projected, but HIT SHOW figures to be his best price since 2023 and training up to a big effort.

    Sending it in ($100 bankroll):
$30 exacta box HIT SHOW with MINDFRAME ($60). $20 exacta box HIT SHOW and MYSTIK DAN ($40).

      Win Play: 4-Thirty Two Chunk

      Forecast: Thirty Two Chunk
, a big figure maiden claiming winner from Santa Anita, ships to Kentucky to take advantage of this starter’s allowance condition and should simply outclass this field. The M. Glatt-trained gelding was given an educational run in his debut before getting serious and looks capable of continuing his improving pattern for his high percentage connections despite the obvious raise in class. The son of More Than Ready is plenty quick but is drawn outside the other main speed so stalk and pounce tactics may be employed if the race flow dictates. There is excellent wagering value to be found at or near his morning line of 4-1 if you can get it.

Churchill Downs Race 9: Post: 4:58 ET Grade: A-
      Win Play: 1-Dr. Venkman

      Forecast: Dr. Venkman
had a right to be a tad rusty – and he wasn’t going to beat the brilliant Nysos anyway – when finishing a distant second in the fast, highly rated Triple Bend Stakes at Santa Anita in his recent comeback but with that effort behind him the M. Glatt-trained sprinter should be primed and ready to regain his winning form in this year’s edition of the Kelly’s Landing Stakes-G3. The son of Ghostzapper projects to be enjoy an ideal ground saving stalking trip and then have every chance to seal the deal when called upon at the head of the lane. His morning line of 5/2 is perfectly acceptable.

      __________________________________________________ ________
Churchill Downs 11: Post: 6:03 ET Grade: B+
      Main Ticket: 2-Mindframe

      Forecast:
Top class colt was very impressive winning the highly productive Churchill Downs S-G1 on Derby Day despite being forced to lose considerable ground in a race in which his 99 Beyer speed figure doesn’t do him justice. Effective at any distance, the son of Constitution has a ceiling the others simply don’t have, so at 7/2 on the morning line the T. Pletcher-trained colt should come right back and win again to establish himself as the leader in the North American older handicap division.

      __________________________________________________ ________
Churchill Downs Race 12: Post: 6:32 ET Grade: A
      Main Ticket: 1-Reagan’s Wit

      Forecast
: Listed at 3-1 on the morning line, Reagan’s Wit offers excellent value at or near that price in this year’s renewal of the American Derby. Fresh from a career top win in a minor grass stakes at Pimlico, the son of Authentic was quite green but proved tons the best without being asked for anything close to his optimum effort. Nothing much more will be needed for a repeat score.

Angela Hermann: Canterbury Park Saturday Analysis

        June 26, 2025 | By 1/ST BET

On-track handicapper Angela Hermann gives you the local insight when handicapping Saturday's Canterbury Derby Day card. Earn 10X 1/ST Rewards Points on all wagers Saturday for Canterbury Park when you play with 1/ST BET and Xpressbet.

        Race 4

The Brooks Fields Mile rematches several from a June 1 mile won in swift time by #1 Kennebec. The 14-time winner and Fausto Da Silva have not missed the exacta in seven tries together, including a mile stakes victory at Turf Paradise in March. Runner-up in this race last year, #5 Tonka Warrior rarely misses the mark on Canterbury grass and should be moving late with Kennebec. New face #6 Saline River traded jabs with Kennebec and #2 Fearless Soldier in Arizona this winter, but got the better of them in shorter races. The only original entrant not in the Brooks Fields, High Ransom, takes some pace out of the mix but the early tempo should be steady if not on the quick side.

        Selections: 1-5-6

        //

        Race 7

The Lady Canterbury changed in its re-draw. A slightly larger field is balanced from a pace standpoint on paper, with new addition #2 Angela’s Party Girl drawn inside Minnesotans #6 Thunders Rocknroll (2024 winner) & #3 Cupid’s Crush (ML favorite) as the likely pacesetters. ‘Cupid hasn’t lost on her home turf yet and drew well to use her speed, but also hasn’t run since March. #7 Tour Queen captured the Curtis Samson Oaks on this day last year in the mud, then added two quality runs going long on turf to cap her season. If she returns as the same filly she was in September, she was within a couple lengths of ‘Cupid and should be a square price . #4 Retired Kathy gives regular rider Chad Lindsay options early on, with a recent front-running route score and dirt sprint victory in her most recent two starts. Their usual tactics on our turf have been to come from off the pace, which may work well in this group. #1 Queen Judith and new shooter #9 Gypsy Reward were moving in at the end of shorter races at Hawthorne in their respective last starts, and a little more ground won’t hurt. With some recency to her and the new dimensions she’s shown as a four-year-old, Retired Kathy is my choice in here.

        Selections: 4-1-3

        //

        Race 8

A pair of trainers seek their second win in the Canterbury Derby and they saddle two of the likely favorites in #3 Homie and #1 Sushi Man. One Bid Stables’ homebred Sushi Man worked his way through Oaklawn Park and Prairie Meadows maidens before breaking through with a seven length score in his first try going two turns on the turf. Coty Rosin won this race in 2023 with Golden Bandit and a similar front-running trip could unfold for this Minnesota-bred. #3 Homie seeks to push his lifetime record to three for three in his first outing as a three-year-old. Both wins saw the son of Mendelssohn on the pace, and he should be prominent early for Larry Rivelli and Jareth Loveberry, who won this race in 2021 with King of Miami.

Two runners with prior stakes experience on dirt are #6 R N R Audible and #4 Smoken Boy. The latter will try his sixth different track and makes his turf debut in his ninth start. His best performances to date came on wet tracks, and should this race get washed off the turf his stock rises. #6 R N R Audible’s female family says he should like turf, and his solid win in his return to Canterbury should have him at his best to give it another shot at a price.

#8 Canyon Streak is a threat on turf or a muddy surface, and has enough speed to get good early position. Despite a wide draw, his versatility and strong string of races in Texas make him a top contender.

        Selections: 8-1-3

Al Cimaglia: Meadowlands Early Pick 4 Analysis

          June 28, 2025 | By Al Cimaglia

The Meadowlands has a loaded 14-race card, and the 0.50 Early Pick 4 starts in Race 6. The sequence has a $50,000 guaranteed pool with a 15% takeout, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

          Race 6 (8:25 PM EDT)

2-Coaches Corner (5-1)-Will take a swing with the Coach, who was stretched out at Wbsb in the Gold Cup but didn't get a good early seat. Landed in 7th off the gate 9 lengths back and then took the long way around. Jason Bartlett could be much closer to the top when the wings fold and should offer a solid price. The Coach doesn't show up at M1 often (3-1-0-1) but can be tough as nails with the right trip.
3-Abuckabett Hanover (3-1)-Stayed inside and couldn't go fast enough to catch the top 2 finishers in the Gold Cup. Let's review, started from post 8 and was used to land in the 3-hole, and did pace the back half in 52.4 with a 25.4 last panel. So, there is no reason to not respect chances for a picture here. Dexter Dunn is back in the bike and this oval has been very good to the Andrew Harris trainee (27-7-3-5).

          Race 7 (8:50 PM EDT)

3-Travolta Hanover (6-1)-Loses Dexter Dunn to the Melander entry (4) but gets a very solid replacement in James MacDonald. On 6-13 left from post 9 and was hung the mile in the NJ Sires Stake Final. Still picked up a 4th place check and has done well at M1 (5-2-1-0). Will look for a square price and should be forwardly placed when the wings fold.
7-Nordic Catcher S (7/2)-Even money winner was used from post 9, landed in the pocket and captured the 1st start of the year. Handy 3-year-old should be in the hunt. This is 1 of 2 entries from the Svanstedt barn and they both could be main players.
9-Gap Kronos S (3-1)-Yannick Gingras is between the pipes and he has steered in the past. The 9-hole helps the price a good deal. This is the 3rd start this year and if the wrapper comes off could leave and get a decent early seat. The "other" Svanstedt pupil could grind its way around and be the best down the lane.

          Race 8 (9:15 PM EDT)

5-Coach Stefanos (6-1)-Comes off a dull effort in the Gold Cup and the Erv Miller entry should offer a solid price. James MacDonald drives for the 2nd straight and could surprise. Has done well at M1 (6-2-1-0) and can be there at the wire with a smooth trip.
7-Bythemissal (5/2)-If this horse brings his best 5/2 will be a gift price. Comes off a 147.1 score at ScD and Gingras will be in the bike. Should be on the point early on and will play catch me if you can. The classy Burke trainee could be very difficult to tackle.

          Race 9 (9:40 PM EDT)

3-Periculum (3-1)-The veteran banked over $821,000 last year and will be making only the 2nd start of the season. Won the Cutler in its season debut on 5/17 and was scratched sick on 6-6. This is the one to beat if doesn't need the race and did have a nice tune-up on 6-20 at the Big M.
4-Get A Wish DK (10-1)-Got an awful trip in last, now Todd McCarthy gets the call instead of Dexter Dunn and that could help the price. Beaten chalk will be a much better price and most likely won't be hung the mile.
9-Lexus Kody (4-1)-Comes off a 2nd place finish, had a bumpy trip and hadn't raced in the 3 weeks. Should be dialed on high and Gingras won't be sitting back. Will be heard from with a smooth journey.

          0.50 Early Pick 4

Woodbine Graded Stakes Pick 4| Saturday, June 28

            June 28, 2025 | By Frank Carulli

            WOODBINE GRADED STAKES PICK 4
            Saturday, June 28, 2025

Woodbine Racetrack will celebrate Canada’s 158th birthday in style this Saturday, June 28. The 10-race card will feature five graded stakes, four that make up the Late Pick 4 featured below. The $38.40 suggested ticket is for a 60-cent wager, three times the 20-cent base amount. Players at Xpressbet and 1/ST BET can take advantage of a 2 Million 1/ST Rewards Points Hit & Split if successful on Woodbine's late pick 4 on Saturday.

WO 7th race (4:32 p.m. EST) -- SOMETHINABOUTHER, the only Grade 3 winner in the field and one of five entrants to conquer the distance, gets the added benefit of a projected lively pace to rally into. Speed abounds in the $150,000 Selene Stakes and the improving 3-year-old filly benefits the most from the inside post. TIZ HER MONEY trailed to the quarter pole at 7F, circled the 4-to-5 pace setter and the rest of the field with a 5-wide blitz, then had to dig in late to hold safe the lead. She is by multiple Grade 1 winner Tiz The Law (6-9, $2.7 million) and her dam’s sibling’s are 10-for-18 on synthetic tracks as 3-year-olds.

WO 8th race (5:06 p.m. EST) -- MY BOY PRINCE transitioned well to sprinting on the turf in his first two starts as a 4-year-old. The soon-to-be millionaire disputed the pace under ‘heavy restraint’ when he won a minor stakes off a six-month layoff, then he slipped through on the rail to lead between calls in the stretch in the Grade 1 Jaipur before pace dueler AG Bullet (7-12, $1.6 million on turf) battled back to win. He will have a locally-based tiger to deal with in today’s Grade 2 Highlander. Ontario-bred PATCHES O’HOULIHAN led at almost every call in compiling a 12-for-15 record – all at Woodbine – with four graded stakes victories and an average 101 Beyer in his last six starts.

WO 9th race (5:39 p.m. EST) -- Hitting the ‘ALL’ button in the Grade 3 Dominion Day as eight entrants look to win at 1-1/8 miles for the first time. FUNTASTIC AGAIN returns to the synthetic surface after he posted his second of two mid-90 Beyers with a third-place finish from post 11 in the Grade 3 Kentucky Cup Classic at Turfway Park 13 months ago. ESSEX SERPENT blazed along to win a $50,000 allowance route in his seasonal debut on a day when six winners dominated on the front end. CLASSIC MOTOWN became the only Grade 2 winner in the field when he rallied in time to win the Eclipse Stakes at Woodbine last month.

WO 10th race (6:11 p.m. EST) -- CAITLINHERGRTNESS ran to her blistering workouts in a Grade 3 win on the all-weather track to begin her 4-year-old campaign. She anxiously tracked the dueling leaders, exploded through an opening as the field bunched up near the quarter pole and ran off to a 5-length win in the Belle Mahone Stakes. Now she switches back to the turf, where she set the pace and finished third in the 1-1/8-mile Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Keeneland last fall behind She Feels Pretty, a $1.7 million earner and five-time Grade 1 winner. It’s hard to look past her in today’s Grade 2 Nassau Stakes. If there’s an upsetter in the field, maybe it’s MIXOLOGIST. She kept a busy – and steady -- work tab the last five weeks and gets back on Lasix for her seasonal debut. She swung 7-wide for the stretch drive and won a 1-1/16-mile allowance at Saratoga through disqualification last fall, then ‘remained on hold to the quarter pole’ but lacked stretch kick in a follow-up Grade 3 turf marathon at 1-3/8 miles.

            Suggested 60-Cent Ticket
            WO 7th Race: 1, 2
            WO 8th Race: 1, 5
            WO 9th Race: ALL
            WO 10th Race: 4, 9
            Cost: $38.40

              #7
              Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

              Churchill Downs - Race #8
#8 Favor to You She didn't have an easy go in her only route try, but her form has been super-reliable otherwise, so I'm willing to give her another look while stretching out here. Solid lean.
#5 Lush Lips She and #6 Vixen just outside of her look like the ones to beat -- they've both been chasing Nitrogen, who would be odds-on in this group, but I also think the top choice has some upside and these two are known commodities.
#2 Something Stronger His comeback score was sharp going short, and he already handled a route try well enough in those previous dirt runs. Think he's set up for something good today.
Race Summary Favor to You and Something Stronger both have some appeal in here while bringing sharp sprint form to this route spot, and I'm hoping the presence of Nitrogen in a couple of the company lines elsewhere will keep the price playable on them.
              Churchill Downs - Race #9
#7 Red Flag Finisher was up against the race flow in a short field at Hawthorne last time out, but I think this could be the kind of race with a solid pace and a couple middle moves from other forward players -- and sometimes a 6.5-furlong trip like this can take its toll on those involved after a race shape like that. This one needs everything to go his way, but if it all goes well, this could come back to a clunk-along finisher like him at a big price. Why not?
#1 Dr. Venkman Bit worried that the quicker pace types will complicate things just a bit for him with the rail draw, but he might get a really nice run while trying to tuck just a touch behind the quicker players early. On talent he's tough.
#3 Booth No doubt he's dangerous, but I worry that he's going to take a little bit of heat here, and he has been vulnerable racing beyond six furlongs in the past. Obviously he could roll these, but I think someone might pick him up late.
Race Summary Red Flag is a reach, but he's a big price and has some appeal here -- think his very best stuff keeps him in the frame with an appealing setup today.
              Churchill Downs - Race #12
#5 Minaret Station Would be thrilled to get something like the 15/1 ML price here. He ran a big finishing race in the Bourbon last year at a big price and now comes back for his 3-year-old debut. His figures will look soft -- a 2-year-old turf route is just not going to get the kinds of numbers that you're going to see on the pages of some of these horses who have been out more recently than him -- but if he brings any reasonable upside/maturity into his 3-year-old season? He might be the best horse in here. I'm willing to find out.
#3 Tiztastic He won a couple turf races at Kentucky Downs last year and figures tough on class here while dropping out of a Grade I spot. An obvious threat here.
#8 Freedom's Not Free Forward player could get the perfect trip to get the jump and see if the top two can come get him late. He has been solid in a couple of stakes scores at Santa Anita, so it wouldn't be a shock to see his nose on the wire again here.
Race Summary Minaret Station can be a handful here if he has come forward at all from his 2-year-old season -- if Tiztastic doesn't dust these, then any step forward from 'Station is probably enough to land this.

                Canterbury Park - Race #4
#2 FEARLESS SOLDIER (9-2) Must avoid duel off the re-claim to spring mild stakes upset.
#1 KENNEBEC (8-5) Rallied for 8 wins, 6 seconds and nearly half of $396k bankroll in 1M turf races.
#5 TONKA WARRIOR (5-2) Transitioned well to class drop and return to turf, finished fast.
Race Summary FEARLESS SOLIDER shook a long duel with returnee HALF BROTHER to forge a mid-stretch lead before trip-sitting favorite KENNEBEC and late-charging TONKA WARRIOR passed by. He can turn the tables at a good price if he doesn’t get locked in a fast-paced battle again. Bet to win and place and play 2-1 and 2-5 exactas.
                Canterbury Park - Race #7
#8 CANYON STREAK (3-1) Blossomed on the switch to turf and stretch-out in distance.
#3 HOMIE (5-1) Can maximize his speed in three-peat try for high-percentage barn with ‘repeat’ types.
#1 SUSHI MAN (5-2) Romped to maiden win, just missed against follow-up stakes winner two back.
Race Summary CANYON STREAK just missed in a ‘triple key’ MSW turf race in his first route attempt, broke his maiden next-out by 7-1/2 lengths, then ran second in an allowance, ahead of Proven Advocate, who came back to win an $18,000 optional claimer and ran second in a grass stakes race. Bet to win and place and play 8-3 and 8-1 exactas in the Canterbury Park Derby.
                Canterbury Park - Race #8
#4 RETIRED KATHY (9-2) More interested in winning than retiring, often at good odds.
#1 QUEEN JUDITH (4-1) Bid 3-wide, took aim at the pace controller, ran second at 7-1/2F.
#3 CUPID’S CRUSH (5-2) Won three consecutive long-distance grass tests last fall.
Race Summary Minnesota Oaks champion RETIRED KATHY tries to add a Lady Canterbury stakes victory to her resume. She rallied for six wins in her last 12 starts, mostly at one mile, and was favored only once. She should get an ample pace to rally into if she doesn’t try to join the front-runners as she did in a recent allowance win on the Tampa Bay Downs lawn. Bet to win and place and play a 1-3-4 exacta box.

                      Emerald Downs - Race #8 - Post: 5:48pm - Maiden Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $8,500 Class Rating: 55

                      Rating:

                      #9 LOTSA SALITA (ML=3/1)

LOTSA SALITA - I like that latest race on June 14th at Emerald Downs where she ran third. I like when a race sets up this way. This filly has the lone early speed to demolish this field. The June 14th clash at Emerald Downs was at a class level of (72). Dropping down in the class scale considerably, so she should be in a good place. Another way to determine class is earnings per start (EPS). This animal has the topmost in the bunch. I think she'll be close at the finish.

                      Vulnerable Contenders: #3 BETTY RYANO (ML=4/1), #4 LADY MORMONT (ML=9/2), #1 LOVELY STORY (ML=6/1),

BETTY RYANO - Finished fourth in her most recent performance with a most unsatisfactory speed figure. When I look at today's class figure, it would take an improved performance to triumph after that in this field. LADY MORMONT - This steed ran a somewhat easily forgotten fig last time around the track. She shouldn't run much better and will probably get beat in today's race running that figure. LOVELY STORY - Never really did much at all in the last race on June 14th. Hard to play in today's event. Earned a somewhat easily forgotten speed fig in the last race in a $5,000 Maiden Claiming race on Jun 14th. Doubtful to see an improved performance off of that fig.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Hal - LOTSA SALITA - Registering a speed figure of 44 two back and then following up with a rating of 61 last race on May 31st, this filly is ready to do some damage.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: #9 LOTSA SALITA is going to be the play if we are getting 1/1 or better
                      EXACTA WAGERS: 9 with [1,10]

                        # 6 PUCKERED 4/1
JULEE'S LEGACY looks to be a solid contender. With a sound 82 average speed rating at the distance, seems well suited for today's race. Hard to pass on this filly with Jaramillo in the saddle. Will likely be one of the front-runners of the pack going into the midpoint of the affair. ST. OLAF ROSE - With a formidable ROI of +167 this handler has shown very strong results with entries running at this distance and surface. Overall the speed figs of this animal look very strong in this contest. PUCKERED - Overall, has one of the best earnings per start in dirt sprint contests in this group. With a solid 74 average speed rating at the distance, seems well suited for today's contest.

SOUND OF WAR has a strong shot to take this race especially at a such a nice price. Ramirez has recent ROI figs which make this horse a strong bet. MADECO ROYALTY - With Figueroa getting the mount, watch out for this pony. CONNECT WITH HUMOR - This racer has a terrific win percent in dirt sprints.

                            Delaware Park - Race #4 - Post: 2:05pm - Maiden Special - 5.0 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $45,000 Class Rating: 74

                            Rating:

                            #3 JESTER SANG (ML=8/1)
                            #9 BOB MO (ML=6/1)
                            #10 MADEFROMLIONA (ML=8/1)

JESTER SANG - This entrant could be tough in today's race, especially since Evans rode in the last race and now should be acquainted with this one. Note that although this gelding finished 2nd in his last race, he was well clear of the third place horse. This is a classic positive angle. I usually like playing sprint horses who are 3-4 races into a return to racing. BOB MO - This colt is in top form right now. Finished second last out and comes back quickly. When I handicap a turf race, I think sometimes class ratings are more important than speed figs. This race horse has the highest average class in the entire field. MADEFROMLIONA - It looks like the early speed horses may duel each other into the ground. When the real running starts this gelding should be finishing best of all. Have to make this gelding a serious competitor; he comes off a nice effort on June 8th.

                            Vulnerable Contenders: #2 SHOWPIECE (ML=3/1), #8 SILK SUIT (ML=4/1), #7 HARD PERFORMER (ML=6/1),

SHOWPIECE - Not the proper 'situation' in this race. SILK SUIT - This thoroughbred hasn't shown much life in the last couple of contests. Can't play this vulnerable equine in today's sprint of 5 furlongs. Hasn't even finished in the money in a sprint race of late. HARD PERFORMER - Should have at least finished in the money in the last couple of months in a sprint event to be worth it at small odds in a sprint.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Play #3 JESTER SANG to win if you can get odds of 4/1 or more
