WUNDERDOG NBA 49-37 Last 86 picks +$1930 Game: Miami at Indiana (8:00 PM Eastern) Pick: Game Total UNDER 182 -110
Clubs that had that poor a defensive game, like Indiana did in Game 5, come back with the "A" game defense in the next contest. And although Indiana gave up 115 points to the Heat in Game 5, their defense is pretty good - especially at home. Indiana has held playoff opponents to just 88 points per game. The Heat enter this game at 24-6 to the UNDER in their last 30 games on a single day of rest and has kept their opponents to only 84.8 points per game. Also, when facing a winning team this season, Miami is 29-17 UNDER and over the past two seasons the Heat are 29-10 UNDER after a game they won by 20+ points. The Pacers have followed a double-digit loss with 70% UNDERs in their last 10, and both of these teams are 60% to the UNDER in the playoffs. Take the UNDER.
The Miami Heat (53-23, 39-37 ATS) beat up the Indiana Pacers (48-28, 37-39 ATS) both figuratively and literally in a 115-83 demolition at home in Game 5, leaving the Heat just one win shy of advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals. Miami started to take over this series in the second half of Game 4 and it then never trailed in Game 5 on Tuesday. The Heat now get a chance to close things out vs. a potentially banged up Pacers' bunch on the road in Game 6 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, IN on Thursday night at 8:00 ET on ESPN.
Indiana lost both of its starting forwards, Danny Granger and David West, to injuries in the second half Tuesday. Granger left the game with a sprained let ankle early in the third quarter and he was in a walking boot after the game. The Pacers were down by 11 points at the time of his departure and got outscored by 21 points the rest of the way including 39-26 in the fourth quarter. Granger actually sprained the ankle landing on LeBron James' foot while playing defense late in the first half. He tried giving it a go for about three minutes in the second half before being forced to leave. West departed with a left knee sprain toward the end of the third quarter while battling Shane Battier for a rebound. Both players are questionable for Game 6, which is the last thing that the Pacers need given that they would have an uphill battle in this series even at full strength. Remember that Granger has been defending LeBron in this series and that West has also provided solid defense, so the Heat may be able to get whatever that want if those players are either out or hindered.
Miami certainly took advantage in Game 5 by shooting an unbelievable 61.4 percent from the floor, hitting on 43 of its 70 field goal attempts! James led the way with 30 points on 12-for-19 shooting, followed closely by Dwayne Wade, who scored 28 while hitting on 10 of his 17 attempts. Remember the precarious situation that the Heat were in when the Pacers were up 2-1 in this series and then led Game 4 at halftime at home? Well, that was when James and Wade took over this series, scoring 28 of the 30 Miami points in the third quarter of Game 4, a quarter that will probably go down as the most important quarter of the season for the Heat, and the duo continued their dominance in Game 5. When you now add in that the Indiana locker room resembles a MASH unit, this series has suddenly taken on a whole new complexion.
The Heat went over 100 points for the second straight game after scoring 95, 75 and 75 points respectively in the first three games of this series, culminating with Wade having a meltdown on the bench and confronting Coach Erik Spoelstra. The significance of reaching the century mark is that Tuesday's blowout makes Miami 6-0 against the spread in the following game the last six times it has reached triple-digits. The Heat also do not mind visiting Indianapolis as they are now 5-2 ATS in their last seven trips here.
