Detroit/ Chicago Under 9: Google News Play This is a huge 1 game set and I feel the offenses may be a bit tight, giving the pitchers the edge. Jose Quintana has made 6 day starts this year and he has a 1.81 ERA in those starts. with just 4.83 rpg being scored and the Under going 6-0. Jose has also pitched well at home, with a 3.49 ERA, including just allowing 1 ER in his last start here, which was vs Detroit.Doug Fister has been very solid for Detroit with a 3.49 ERA overall and a 3.25 ERA on the road. Doug has allowed 2 ER's or less in 9 of his last 11 starts and 3 ER's or less in 5 of his last 6 starts vs the White Sox. He has allowed just 2 ER's in both of his starts vs Chicago this year. Yes these two offenses are strong but they are also a bit banged up and my be a bit tight as this is a big game. I give the pitching tyhe edge in this one, especially with Quintana getting a day start and that should have this game fall well short of the total in this one.
KEY TREND --- The Under is 18-5-3 in Detroit's last 26 games overall.Comment

Denver Broncos vs. Atlanta Falcons
In what potentially looks like a close entertaining affair, Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos (1-0, 1-0 ATS) pay a visit to Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons (1-0, 1-0 ATS) in this week's Monday Night Football contest from the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, GA. The possible fireworks begin at 8:35 ET and can be seen on ESPN.
The buzz during the preseason was just how good Ryan was in directing the new Atlanta no-huddle offense, and that great seasons were to be expected from both he and wide receiver Julio Jones. Well, so far, so good! The Falcons blew out the Kansas City Chiefs in their opener 40-24, with the no-huddle making the difference in the second half vs. an injury-depleted Chiefs' defense that lacked depth as Atlanta busted open what was only a 20-17 halftime lead. Ryan finished just one yard short of 300 yards passing while completing 23 of his 31 passes and averaging an incredible 9.6 yards pre pass attempt, or nearly a first down every time he threw the ball. Jones was on the receiving end of 108 of those yards and two of his six receptions were touchdown catches. While the win was certainly impressive, not all of the news was positive as running back Michael Turner continued to run in slow motion as he did over the second half of last season, gaining only 32 rushing yards on 11 carries (2.9 YPC), and the Atlanta defense did surrender 393 total yards to a Kansas City team that has Matt Cassel as its starting quarterback. Furthermore, cornerback Brent Grimes was lost for the season in the game when he injured his Achilles, a development that probably has Manning salivating for this game.
Speaking of Manning, his first regular season game in two years was a successful one as he guided the Broncos to a 31-19 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Manning did not seem to miss a beat while completing 19 of 26 passes for 253 yards and two touchdowns, actually averaging a smidgeon more than Ryan with 9.7 yards per attempt on opening week. Manning's release was as quick as ever and he excelled when Denver went into a no-huddle in the second half, just like when he was comfortable going without a huddle while with the Colts before his four neck surgeries took away his final season at Indianapolis. The Broncos were a bit more balanced offensively in Week 1 than Atlanta, as Denver managed 94 rushing yards vs. a very stout Pittsburgh run defense that is one of the best in football, with Willis McGahee leading the way with 64 rushing yards on 16 carries. The defense also did a fine job while holding the Steelers to 284 total yards in the game, and that unit got on the scoreboard when Tracy Porter returned a Ben Roethlisberger interception 43 yards for a touchdown with under 2:00 remaining.
Something has to give on the trend front here as there are two powerful ones going against each other. On the one hand, Ryan is 20-9 ATS as a starting quarterback at home since being drafted by the Falcons. On the other hand, Manning is 14-3 ATS when cast in an underdog role since 2003.

5 Unit Play. #226 Take Atlanta -3 over Denver (8:35p.m., Monday, Sept 17 ESPN)
(Game of the Week) Yes this game is probably confusing because last week we had the Broncos as our Game of the Month and they beat the Steelers at home. This game for the Broncos is on the road and Matt Ryan at home is pretty damn good. Falcons QB Matt Ryan is an outstanding 26-5 SU at home including 17-3 SU and 14-5-1 ATS against non-division opponents at home. These stats are crazy good and this is why we like the Falcons at home against Denver. This game will be a close one as Peyton Manning will keep this game close but with the high power passing attack of the Falcons this game gets won in the 4th quarter and the Falcons win by 6 points. Both teams struggle on Monday Night Football games but again we like the small home favorite and Matt Ryan at home.Comment

3 Unit Play. (#124/#226) Take Under 51 in Denver Broncos @ Atlanta Falcons
(Monday, 9/17, 8:45 pm ESPN)
The Broncos are playing their second straight prime time game to start the season after an impressive showing against Pittsburgh last Sunday night. QB Peyton Manning played well, especially when he went no-huddle. However, one must remember that Pittsburgh was playing without two key personnel on defense in Ryan Clark and James Harrison. QB Manning will find it much harder on the road to no-huddle, especially since the Falcons play in the dome. Denver has gone under the posted total in five straight games after scoring 30 or more points in their previous outing.
The Falcons dominated another AFC West opponent last week at Arrowhead. The defense will have a much more challenging task this week, but I fully expect them to rise to the occasion against one of the game's best. Atlanta has gone under the posted total in five of their last seven home games.
We easily collected with the under last week on MNF and will ride that again this week, as both teams have solid defenses. Fifty-point totals are becoming more common in the league, but that is still a lot of points and I do not envision both teams scoring over 25 points.
