George Mason (4-2) -4 over RHODE ISLAND (1-5)
Prediction: George Mason by 7-8
Starting Time: 8:05
TV: CBS Sports Network
Comments: George Mason has picked right up where it left off last season despite losing three starters off that 24-9 team and has every edge but the home court in this game against offensively-challenged Rhode Island (averaging just 58.3 points per game). The Patriots have already proved themselves while playing a quality schedule even if their two best games were losses—70-69 to New Mexico on a neutral floor and at Bucknell (6-1). Rhode Island comes into this game off its first win of the season, a 78-72 double overtime victory at Auburn. In their two other home games, the Rams lost to Loyola-Maryland, 58-54, and to Norfolk State, 67-55. Everything points to a long night for this rebuilding Rhode Island team that has only eight scholarship player’s eligible to play.
15 Units Duke (-5½) over Ohio State 9:30 PM -- Cameron Indoor Stadium
DUKE (6-0) -5 ½ over Ohio State (4-0)
Prediction: Duke by 10-11
Starting Time: 9:35
TV: ESPN
Comments: This has to be one of the biggest revenge games of the entire season and Duke, which has already mowed down the likes of Louisville, VCU, Minnesota and Kentucky, has the talent to pull it off. Last year these teams met in Columbus and Ohio State buried the proud Blue Devils, 85-63, in a game the Buckeyes led by 19 at the half and continued to pour it on after intermission. When this season’s schedule came out, Duke circled this game on the calendar as they one they wanted most of all. The fact Duke has superior talent, is playing at home where the bias is among the strongest in college basketball and has revenge on its mind gives the Blue Devils all the edges they need to get to the winner’s circle. Ohio State, probably the most over-rated team in the country right now, is about to find payback truly is a bitch.
10 Units Santa Clara (-8½) over Utah State 10:00 PM -- Leavey Center
SANTA CLARA (5-0) -8 ½ over Utah State (3-1)
Prediction: Santa Clara by 12-13
Starting Time: 10:00
No TV
Comments: Santa Clara’s success on the basketball court this season is a teaching moment for all handicappers. The Broncos were buried in futility last season, going 8-22, becoming the first team to ever go winless in West Coast Conference play (0-16) and at one point lost 17 straight. This time around, they are off to a 5-0 start, have a signature road win at St. Louis, 74-62, as a 12-point underdog and are getting better with each game played. Utah State will be playing its first road game tonight and the figures say this Aggie team has little on common with the solid teams of the past. Utah State has played one good basketball team this season. Saint Mary’s at home and lost, 67-58. The Aggies wins have come against Weber State, Texas A&M-CC and Idaho State.

50 Units Creighton (-13½) over Boise State 8:05 PM -- Century Link Center
CREIGHTON (6-0) -13.5 over Boise State (4-1) Prediction: Creighton by 19-20 Starting Time: 8:05 TV: ESPN3, ESPN Full Court, Cox Cable Omaha Comments: Creighton is current ranked 11th in the national polls but my figures suggest the Bluejays may be the third best team in the country, trailing only Indiana and Duke. Creighton returns four starters from last year’s 29-6 NCAA team and that includes All-American junior forward Doug McDermott (21.0 points, 7.8 rebounds per game). Creighton comes into this game off decisive neutral-court wins over Arizona State, 87-73, and Wisconsin, 84-74. It is of note the closest any team has been to the Bluejays at the end of a game is 10 points and that they are winning their games by an average of 23 points. Now throw into the mix the fact Creighton is 31-0 in its last 31 home games against non-conference opponents and has won those games by an average of 17.0 points and one sees what a decent Boise state team is up against tonight. Boise State is a much-improved basketball team and they are going to find things much tougher in Omaha than it did in its last road game, a 74-70 loss at Michigan State.
