2 UNIT” NFL INTANGIBLE UNDERDOG (Ravens +3 at home versus Broncos in a 1:00 eastern kickoff): One of the big stories in Baltimore this week surrounded the gut-wrenching decision by head coach John Harbaugh to fire his friend and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron even though the team put 28 points on the scoreboard last Sunday. Taking over as coordinator is the same Jim Caldwell who a year ago at this time was head coach at Indianapolis when the Colts went through a train-wreck of a campaign. The key to this selection is that Caldwell served as quarterback coach for SEVEN seasons with the Colts when one PEYTON MANNING was the starting quarterback. With his knowledge of the now star Denver signal caller odds are that he will be able to help the Ravens devise a plan to at least limit his overall effectiveness. Denver checks in as a rather sizeable road favorite this afternoon even though Baltimore is a on a 16-1 overall roll in front of their own home fans. It is easy to see why the oddsmakers have set this spot since Denver is currently riding their longest winning streak since back in the 1998 campaign. In addition the Broncos have not played any nail-biters as all ten of their victories have come by 7-or-more points. I am aware that the once feared Ravens defense has fallen to #24 overall due to a rash of injuries including star Ray Lewis who once again will be forced to watch from the sidelines. But there is a small ray of hope for the Baltimore stop-unit as linebacker Terrell Suggs WILL be suiting up for this critical encounter for playoff positioning. In this Broncos/Ravens series Baltimore has COVERED the spread at a recent 7-1 clip and they have beaten Denver by a combined 37 points the last pair of times serving as host. When up against opposition from the AFC West, Baltimore at HOME has been a money-maker (14-3 ATS) long term. Today is a rare competitive game for the Broncos who have been on a recent run against poor opposition such as the Raiders, Bucs, Chiefs, Chargers and PanthersComment
