Thunder at Lakers: What Bettors Need to Know

Oklahoma City Thunder at Los Angeles Lakers (+5, 214)

The Los Angeles Lakers try to avoid their first six-game losing streak in almost six years when they host the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday. Los Angeles has not lost six straight it dropped seven in a row from March 2-15, 2007. After ending December with their sixth win in seven games, the Lakers have yet to post a victory this month. They dropped a 108-105 decision to the Spurs in San Antonio on Wednesday for their fifth straight defeat.

Oklahoma City enters a half-game behind the Los Angeles Clippers for the league's best record. It posted its third win in four games Wednesday as it defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 106-84. The Thunder are beginning a string of three straight games on the road, where they are a pedestrian 9-5 as opposed to their 18-3 mark at home.

TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, FSN (Oklahoma City), TWC SportsNet (Los Angeles), ESPN

ABOUT THE THUNDER (27-8, 21-13-1 ATS): Russell Westbrook is looking to extend his consecutive games streak to 348, the longest active games played streak. Kevin Durant ranks third in the league in scoring with an average of 28.1 points. Oklahoma City is 6-0 when Durant scores at least 35 points. The Thunder are the NBA's top 3-point shooting team through 35 games as they have made 267 of 668 attempts. Westbrook and Durant form the highest-scoring pair of teammates in the league. The duo currently is averaging 49.9 points.

ABOUT THE LAKERS (15-20, 14-20-1 ATS): Los Angeles could get a little healthier Friday. Dwight Howard (shoulder) and Jordan Hill (hip) remain sidelined, but Pau Gasol has yet to be ruled out. Gasol already has missed two games with a concussion. Kobe Bryant still leads the league with an average of 30.1 points. But by his standards, he's in a bit of a scoring slump. After scoring at least 30 points in 12 of 13 games, the superstar has failed to reach the mark in each of his last three contests as he has tallied 29, 20 and 27 points. With 10,653 field goals made, Bryant is seven away from passing Alex English for eighth place on the all-time list.

    TRENDS:

    * Over is 4-0 in the last four meetings.
    * Over is 4-1 in the last five meetings in Los Angeles.
    * Thunder are 3-1-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Los Angeles.
    * Road team is 3-1-1 ATS in the last five meetings.

    BUZZER BEATERS:

    1. The Thunder drew first blood in the four-game season series, posting a 114-108 victory at home on Dec. 7.

    2. Los Angeles has posted its worst 35-game start since also beginning the 2002-03 season with a 15-20 record.

    3. Oklahoma City is 14-0 when five or more players score in double figures.

Indian Cowboy's Picks For College Basketball

3-0 Thursday. 4 of 5 winning days. 7 of 10 winning days. 22-14 (60%) Run and +$1900 since December 22nd. Still more to be done but the run is here and its time for us to ride the wave.

We're taking a Pass on the card today. Instead forcing 1 here we can just wait on the Saturday card which will likely feature 5 selections.

Indian Cowboy's Picks For NBA Basketball

3-Unit Selection. #806. Take Boston -2.5 over Houston Rockets (Friday @ 7:30pm est).

Boston has a lot of revenge coming into this game. This team always has a way of sticking up for his players and Kevin Garnett taking some heat for supposedly talking about Carmello's wife, look for the team to step up to support Garnett here. News reports indicate this is why 'Melo lost his cool and that Garnett stepped over the line. Coach Rivers adamently denies that Garnett stepped over the line or talked about anybody's wife. Either way, Carmello got a 1 game suspension for the incident outside the buses in Madison Square Garden which led the Knicks to possibly lose a game in Indiana. As per this game, Boston has a lot of revenge from a 101-89 loss earlier this year to Houston. This is a big revenge spot for a Boston team that just got a lot healthier with Avery Bradley returning to the lineup which allows the team to be significantly deeper. Boston is now an above .500 team and their defense has spurted their success once again as they have won 4 straight now and come yielding just 79 points to the Suns at home. During the 4 game win streak Boston has managed to cover 3 of the last 4 as well. I'm not a huge fan of Houston losing their last game and looking to bounce-back but at home but then again, this team did lose back to back games to San Antonio and OKC. Plus, with this team losing to New Orleans possibly looking ahead to this game, the key difference is that teams that get back on transition such as New Orleans, or teams with an inside presence like Davis can give the Rockets trouble such as scoring less than 80 points. The Celtics have this same motto with an inside presence in Garnett and this is a defensive minded team that will get back on transition and will have a healthier Bradley to boot this game. The league is starting to come around to what it takes to beat the Rockets and look for the Celtics to mold what the Hornets did tonight.

5 Unit Play. Take #814 New York -4 over Chicago (8:05 p.m., Friday, January 11 ESPN)
(Game of the Week) The Knicks will be looking to snap out of a 3-game losing streak and get some revenge from the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls have beaten the Knicks twice in the month of December and one of those games were in the Garden so again I think the Knicks look for some much needed revenge tonight at home. Last night New York came up short against the Pacers in Indiana but the Knicks played without Melo serving a 1-game suspension. I see Melo having a huge game tonight and I see the Knicks playing with some heart at home to snap out of their funk. The Bulls might be without Kirk Hinrich again tonight and if does not play this will help our Game of the Week huge! The Bulls are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games and the Knicks are 16-5-1 ATS following a SU loss.

Team Del Genio NBA Trifecta of the Week (11-2 L13)

Oklahoma City Thunder at Los Angeles Lakers Jan 11 2013 10:35PM
8* Play Over Oklahoma City/LA Lakers at 10:35 ET. Former linesmaker Lenny Del Genio spent years working on an NBA "totals system" and began using it in January '07 on the net, with great success. It's based on numerous factors, some of them listed here. Anticipated pace and style of both teams' play. Days of rest for teams or lack of it. Number of points scored by starters as compared to subs in recent outings (plus season-long averages). It also factors in point and rebounding differentials of the two teams. He has since passed it down to his handicapping Team, who has been employing it the past several seasons. With all these factors (and many more), it's not possible to provide our "typical analysis" with NBA totals selections, however, we will provide various factors, stats and trends to "supplement" the system. The ratings of the plays have also been slightly modified this year. Plays are now rated 7* (Game of the Day), 8* (Game of the Week), 9* (Game of the Month) as well as some very rare 10* plays (Games of the Year). You have the #2 scoring offense (Oklahoma City) here going against an awful defensive team (Lakers). The last four Lakers games have all seen both them and their opponents score more than 100 points. They had gone Over in four games in a row before Wednesday night's loss to the Spurs, where a missed three at the buzzer cost them a chance at overtime and another winning Over ticket. The Thunder come in averaging 105.4 PPG for the season, trailing only Houston, who just put up 125 on this pourous Lakers D. Meanwhile, the Lakers allow 101.7 PPG, one of the worst marks in the league. Since the start of last season, LA is an astounding 16-2 Over when coming off a loss by six points or less. Going back to LY's playoff series, these teams have gone Over the last four times they've met. Over Oklahoma City/LA Lakers is our 8* ESPN Total.

                            Prediction: over

Oklahoma City Thunder at Los Angeles Lakers Jan 11 2013 10:35PM
Play On: LA Lakers (Game 822) Note: When the Lakers host the Thunder in a Friday night prime time showdown at the Staples Center it will be with revenge on their minds from not only being eliminated from last year's playoffs by Oklahoma City but also from a 114-108 loss suffered at OKC a month ago. That sets the table for tonight's fray as Kobe and company are 4-0 SUATS at home off a loss with revenge in this series the last four years. They are also 8-1-1 ATS the last 10 games in this series when they take the court sporting a sub .475 win percentage, including 5-0 ATS the last five. With the Thunder in off a 22-point revenge win over Minnesota Wednesday night, look for a spirited effort from the bruised but proud hosts tonight. We recommend a 3-unit play on the Lakers. Thank you and good luck as always. Check this out: there is an 18-0 ATS super system play in one of Saturday's NFL Divisional Round playoff games. Hurry, get it now from Marc's database and learn the 18-0 ATS winning angle inside the game - you'll be glad you did!
