Providence is not getting much love from the public besides being a small home underdog and having some quality players. This is a decent public fade as this line has now moved up in favor of Kevin Ollie's team to -1.5 or +1.5 for the home dog. Ed Cooley's team is 10-10 this year and 2-6 in conference play thus far. But, Providence has been able to show some bite at home including beating a very good Villanova team by 4 points at home, only losing to Syracuse by 6 points at home and losing to Pitt by 4 points at home. This is a team that has great size and is top 40 when it comes to offensive rebounding. Connecticut is essentially top 300 in offensive rebounding and although the numbers point to Connecticut here, I think in the end this game will come down to who has control of the glass and some home court calls will allow Providence to be a bit more aggressive on the rebounding end. Providence needs a big home win and I think they get it here as they have played well all year at home in conference play. Troy lost by 4 points at home to Western Kentucky earlier this year and has a decent amount of revenge coming into this game. I nearly stepped out in this game but laid back. Keep in mind that Troy comes off big wins against Arkansas State and Louisiana Monroe in overtime in both games and has won 4 of its last 5. This is a team that is gelling at the right time near the tail end of the season, and they are playing better than they did earlier this season when Western Kentucky came knocking. Now, they have more confidence, seek revenge, Western Kentucky is a bit banged up with injuries and having a top 20 turnover percentage is solid as well and gives them a chance to hang within single digits in this contest. Morehead State is the same team that made the game against Kentucky exciting at the Rupp earlier this year. This is a team that has decent size as they are top 30 in the nation in offensive rebounding and the same team that beat top 75 Indiana State at home and lost to Kentucky on the road by 11. Belmont is a perfect 8-0 in conference play but Morehead State is the type of team that plays with a chip on its shoulder. They have guards who are essentially fearless and if they can get it going early, it could make for a very interesting game late in the contest. Morehead State lost to this team by 1 point earlier this year and this is a revenge game for this team and I can see them getting up for this game against Belmont and it being a relatively close contest this evening.

The Panthers jumped (22) points, nine places and (12) seeds in the Eastern Conference, made the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2000, and won the only division title in franchise history. Now the defending Southeast Division champion Panthers are trying to shake free from an early season struggles, while the Jets are trying to keep pace with the current leaders in the division, the Tampa Bay Lightning. Florida's (38) wins last season was the lowest by a playoff team, but the Panthers won the Southeast because they were adept at getting games to overtime. The hot start of the Lightning means the Panthers are already eight points back in their quest to defend the division crown. The Panthers have lost five straight in regulation since opening the abbreviated season with a 5-1 victory over Southeast Division rival Carolina and Florida has not lost six straight in regulation since 1998-99. The Winnipeg Jets won only (14) times on the road last season, which was second-worst in the Eastern Conference. The ?Black Cats? had a great year last year, but their future even looks better. And that's what the ?Panther Nation? is excited about.

4-Unit Pick Take over (5) Nashville at Los Angeles (10:35 pm, Thursday, January 31)

This may look like a odd play, Nashville has been shutout in two oftheir last three games, they're without their top forward PatricHornqvist and are the proud owners of averaging a Western Conferencelow 1.67 goals a game. The Kings on the other hand have scored just eleven goals through the first five games and finally put their first power play goal in the net in their last game making them 1 for 27 this year, crazy right ? Keep in mind that all this shows up in a total of five goals with low money attached here. While the Hornqvist injury is big the Predators still had ten guys from last year that had at least
ten goals on the year so this team gets offense from different people those people just hasn't produced yet. This will mark the fifth straight road game in a road trip that still has the Predators a week away from playing at home again but Nashvile has had three straight day's off and head coach Barry Trotz has been stressing his team to shoot the puck. The kings burden on offense is just a slow start, it's funny how succes can sometimes be a set back. The Kings are fresh off
of winning the Stanley Cup and because of the lockout had extra time to relish it but I think they started to play better hockey two games ago. This Los Angles team has plenty of offensive and have been off since Monday resting as well. I think this one will be wide open and it is asking a lot to keep two teams that striving for more offense that are rested to stay under this low total.

2-Unit Pick Take #15 Edmonton (+1.70) over San Jose (10:35 pm, Thursday, January 31)

This is the second time this two teams will play in ten day's when the Sharks rolled into Edmonton to dismantle the young Oilers in their home opener jumping to a 6-1 lead after the first period. Either the Sharks let up a little or Edmonton played better over the final two periods with the Oilers losing the game by a 6-3 score. I like to think that Edmonton played better, this is for the most part a young but very talented Oilers team, good chance that the young Oilers nerves were
running high for that home opener and the veteran Sharks just capitalized. San Jose has aging forwards and a younger defense that I think will catch up to this team that has started the season off to 6-0 record. With that record comes over pricing which we have here, I made the Sharks just a -1.55 home favorite tonight, Edmonton does come off a game last night and this does mark their third in four nights but this will be the Sharks 4th in 6 days and both teams playing their 5th in 8 days. I will take the young legs of the Oilers with some payback on their minds at this inflated price.
1-Unit Pick Take #3 Buffalo (+1.55) over Boston ( 7pm, Thursday, January 31)

The Sabres season started well winning their first two games only to drop four straight after losing at home with a second left in overtime at home on Tuesday to the Maple Leaf, the four goals was the most giving up this year for Buffalo goalie Ryan Miller. Miller has a good chance at bouncing back here against a Boston team he has beaten six of the last seven he has started vs the Bruins plus Miller owns a 2.47 goals against over that period. Boston is playing good hockey and even in the games that they haven't they still one which says a lot about this team. I don't think this Buffalo team is as close to the run of four straight loss that have piled up here, this game is big in so many ways for the Sabres and catch Boston playing their third game in four nights after a grueling one vs New Jersey. Price is too high for a Buffalo team that will give Boston a game.

1-Unit Pick Take Under (5.5) Winnipeg at Florida (7:35pm, Thursday, January 31)

Florida has lost five straight games being out scored 23 to 5 over this bad stretch. The Panthers have had very bad injury problems early on here mainly to their offense which obviously shows. Florida power play has gone just 2 and 24 so far and is 0 for 8 their last two games with the man advantage and the Panthers manage just six first period shots in their last game vs Tampa Bay. Winnipeg is known more for their defense then offense but has let up the first goal in each of their last four games, the Jets come into South Florida off a sloppy loss in Montreal losing 4-3. Look for Winnipeg to play a tighter defensive game here and I think with the lack of the Florida offense they have no choice but to avoid a shoot outstyle of a game. To make matters worse for a struggling Florida offense Winnipeg goalie Ondrej Pavelec has a 5-0 mark with a 2.31 goals against vs Florida who just doesn't have it right now.
